  1. Hi Michael, Yeah, should have said sleeved rather than splice probably. Interestingly it the inside lines rather than the outside ones that are wearing. Not worried about it more than interested in reasoning for it. Most guys don't or can't reach the slider collapse cords, I wonder it that effects the long term wear\life of the line set. ~ Pete Mac
  2. Hi, Why has PD spliced two different line materials at the bottom of the rear centre lines on the Sigma 2 - 340. http://petemac.co.uk/images/sigma-2-suspension-line.jpg http://petemac.co.uk/images/sigma-2-suspension-line-overview.jpg Any heads up would be appreciated. Cheers, Pete Mac.
  3. Yeah 100%, get it right in the door usually goes smooth. However, you do have to grin some days! I'm always upbeat with the student, its part the job. That said, I'll be firm, but professional when they need it.
  4. It can be stable and controllable at altitude, but you can get into big trouble close to the ground if you encounter turbulence. Absolutely!!, who knows when and where this will turn into something nasty! I've landed a few problematic tandem, but known top-skin damage and an uncertainty landing\faring characteristic is way too random for me, even if it is a practice punter on the front.
  5. What that then The Hippo 1 Poplar Way Rotterdam PeteMac
  6. Fortunately living in Europe offers so much hassle-free base jumping and opportunities, that its not really relevant what some old school have to say. Base jumping is as personal or as commercial as you want to make it. Base Jumping will continue to develop as an extreme sporting media\branding vehicle, as long as there is a demand. As for 15 minutes of frame, well no-one individual really faced the product or object (Ego’s need not apply!), it was simply get on with it and make it a success by being professional about it. Plus they threw in a FREE day’s jumping off a crane :) I know were I’ll be next year. Pete Mac UKProBASE.com (Making it Happen)
  7. Some are pretty flimsy though!
  8. Phew! Risk vs Reward? Not sure how he did the numbers on that bad boy..... Seems pretty pointless? Underhung anything start me with flickering amber and just gets worse!! Pete Mac
  9. Why does it have to be a governing body? That’s your problem right there! However some sort of organisation promoting BASE venues and events, may make possible progress with the likes of the NPS and land\object owners etc. Pete Mac
  10. Thanks for the replies, guys much appreciated. Yeah it low and dirty in the UK most of the time, so was just doing some research into a second canopy for some really quite tight and low adventures in town. Found a Rock Dragon in the UK and I‘ll try some jumps on it at the Crane Boogie weekend. Need to do some Fox jumps for comparison, especially with the ZP top skin. If it improves the landing without increasing the glide too much might be the answer. Thank again Pete Mac
  11. Not many people jumping then? Any comments about Rock Dragons at all! How about Foxes?
  12. Don't know much about them, currently jumping a Flik 293, vented - for low jump 140-300 feet. Landing area potentially quite tight! Cheers Pete edited:typo

    Weird mal

Video - main and freebag seperated fine, just got hit by the wreakage! Luckly in did not turn into a downplane, could reach the main lines and pulled it in before the main inflated fully. Does break your faith in "do the drills, you'll probably be OK!" Anyway that's tandems lots of physics. Pete Mac

    Weird mal

Bit off topic - but talking of weird mal's Chopped a sigma tandem last week - line dump Ended up with the main hitting the reserve after it had cleared and then the main risers wraping around the rear right line group and slider. Worked out ok after some committed problem solving :) Them skyhook's are quick !! Pete Mac
  15. Hi Guys Looking at getting a PC1000 for my FF2 Helmet (http://www.2kcomposites.com/html/ff2.html). Would be grateful for any advice\remarks from anyone using a PC1000, or any other similar sized and shaped cameras. Pete Mac
  16. Cheer mate Awesome experience delivery her myself, midwife was right on my 6 though Sorry - this is off-topic
  17. OK let just clarify it, I was referring to the UK Base Forum itself. Some regular posters hardly set an encouraging tone for newbie’s to want to contact “a local”. Although it's clearly very desirable to avoid future problems etc... As for "days out" I usually find it lots of fun as you know! BTW Baby girl (Nell) 7 lb, all well and she seems very chilled out for a new born!
  18. The UK base scene can potentially be such an unpleasant place, you can really understand why people like to do their own thing and therefore can hardly be surprised when people simply wish to avoid getting involved with it. How this benefits us as a community (sic), I really do not known? Pete Mac

    Tom Manship

Peace, Tom Will always remember your relaxed, casual and helpful manner on my FJC @ TF. Sep 2003 Oh and telling us to get our lazy arses up the side of the gorge instead of starting late (9am) waiting for the boat service to start! It certainly led to some of the best jumps of the trip and really bump the numbers up. Pete Mac
  20. Normally 3 days Fri-Sun, I believe. But get the packing sorted before you go, it's a great site to learn, but it’s still base jumping. We met a few groups with first time jumpers there. Call Basic Research their FJC is very competitively priced and we were jumping new and full spec gear - impressive! Pete Mac
  21. Sorry about that - simply wanted to give credit where it was due - does initials count ? Pete
  22. Just finished a Basic Research (BR) First Jump Course The course instructor, training manual and equipment were excellent, while the site is very jumper friendly (a place serious about their potatos!). I thoroughly recommend it to anyone serious about getting into base jumping. While the course obviously promotes BR equipment and offers a $200 discount on new gear, a wide range of methods, other systems and essential equipment were discussed during the course. We all learnt to PCA each other and set up a static lines, as we drive over a 200 foot bridge daily it’s seem a waste not to be using it. Go base prepared, being able to flat/reserve pack will save a lot time and increase your jump numbers considerably. Fortunately our small group had over 9000 jumps, which really help keep the pace up during the course. If you are comfortable with light rock climbing you can add 2 or 3 jump a day by climbing out which is quite easy and only has a couple of exposed spots, we lost a few jumps by being over-cautious and not climbing until we watched a 70 year old woman follow one of the locals out the canyon. The weather was mostly good and our group of 3 completed 68 base jumps, mostly going stowed with slider up, a lot less bruising. A few round jumps were completed into the water using BR H20 round, otherwise it was Vertex twin pin containers with Multi (reefing) and Vtec (bottom skin venting) which soon instilled real confidence in the Flik canopies. We were jumping large canopies was proved a bonus as we don’t have a decent set of knees, ankles or back between us, old injuries, years of military boots and plain old age having taken its toll (average age almost 46 yrs old). Soon the emphasise was on enjoying the exit and delay, not worry about the gear. All in all, a very worthwhile and fun trip, make sure you do a dawn jump it really kick starts your day. A big thank you to Karen and Anne at Basic Research for their free gear rental for the extra few days, all their support and of course JJ for making the whole thing safe, very professional and a lot of fun.
