  1. Just trying to clarify, are you wondering about doing AFP (3 tandems 1st) or AFF? Fly it like you stole it!
  2. Well I'm not surprised at all that someone with 100 jumps doesn't know how (or trust themselves) to hook a canopy up to riseres. Off student status when you get your 1st rig, it is either new or used. If used it probably already came with the main hooked up, or the jumper took everything to their rigger to check out and put together because it was used and they wanted to make sure everything is ok. If they bought new, they either had it assembled at the factory, had everything shipped to their rigger, or brought an arm full of boxes to their rigger. Then a lot of people downsize at ~100 so this is the first time they have change a component themselves. Most people don't think about things until they have to do them, I know I didn't until I downsized and swapped out my own main. Only thing that saved my butt was that I had seen the rigger at the DZ, suspending mains to do line checks when he hooked them up. As for people no knowing how to pack. I think it's bull, but it puts more money in our pockets, since the rigs that come threw us that packers have packed need more work due to wear than rigs that jumpers pack. So please continue using packers. Fly it like you stole it!
  3. Derek jumps a VX60 a 3.1:1 and starts his hook anywhere from ~800-1000 ft. On like his 10th jump on the canopy (at sea level) he was clocked at 90 MPH in the dive and 78 MPH planed out across the ground. We now live jump at 5400ft so I know he is going much fast. He did talk to Airtec about the possibility of a mis-fire and they said that they couldn't be possitive it wouldn't happen, so out came the cypres. Fly it like you stole it!
  4. I have a reflex, but haven't jumped it in over a year. My only reserve ride on it I didn't have the catapult installed, it worked fine with out. I'm using that rig to get my riggers ticket since it isn't being used and since there isn't a cypres in it. Anyway after looking at the poptop pilot chute it looks soooo small compared to other reserve pilot chutes, it is ZP so that does make a difference but the spring is also heavier. Anyway, I put the catapult back on the bridle and will leave it that way since even though I know better it just doesn't seem like there is enough pilot chute. And yes I am dating one of those riggers that refuses to pack reflexes, and you should have seen him do the happy dance when I ordered a mirage. Fly it like you stole it!
  5. That quote was from their web page, they said they had some misfires before they changed the decent altitude to 130 feet per sec. I'm not for them or against them, I was just reading thier "manual", and thought that was interesting since the reason Derek can't jump a cypress is cause he will cause it to fire under canopy. 6. Hook is in Canon City, being "Instructor Man" so it's just me and the kids (dog & cat). Using the time to surf around for thing to do when TequilaGirl and Susan are up for a week of "Fun in the Snow" Fly it like you stole it!
  7. Always pack for myself, well sometimes Derek packs for me, I call that fringe benifits rather than paying a packer. I trash pack so it only take about 5-6 min for me to get packed up, so time isn't an issue. I started out packing for myself cause I was broke, now even though I have the money it just doesn't feel right haveing someone else do it for me. Also, I like being able to catching things like k-line shrinkage, lower steering lines showing wear, just little thing before they become big. Fly it like you stole it!
  8. From the Astra website it is recommended that it is tested. http://www.pia.com/fxc/astrindx.htm 8.0 FUNCTIONAL TEST. 8.1 During every repack of the parachute , a functional test is recommended on the ASTRA, using the Cutter-Test-Probe and the Portable Altitude Test Chamber . Although this is interesting. 10)Will hook turning or fast spiral descents cause the Astra to fire? No. We had a very small number of incidents when the units were first released with a rate of descent setting of 90 feet per second. After investigation and further testing we increased the rate of descent to 130 feet per second as well as redesigning the filtering software. We designated that upgrade as the Mod 3. We have had no incidents of Astras with the Mod 3 upgrade firing inappropriatly. Fly it like you stole it!
  9. I didn't read anywhere in her post her wanting us to go actively looking for him. Probably 90% of the DZs in the US are represented here on DZ.com so there is no need for anyone to go actively looking for him. Someone here probably already has seen him cause he jumps at their DZ. No one has to report anything back to her, all they have to do is tell him that his GF and friends back in MI are looking for him and are worried cause they haven't heard from him. BTW...I think that's his USPA number it, a few numbers lower than mine. Fly it like you stole it!
  10. From the chick's side, I would have done it for the free vacation to Europe. Of course I would have been booted the 1st week, probably cause I would have told him he has a vacume for a brain. Fly it like you stole it!
  11. If it's a brand new main, the book that came with it might even have instructions. Don't quote me on that cause I'm not at home where I can get ahold of any manuals. Fly it like you stole it!
  12. Exactly....I actually know an instructor that can't pack and hasn't packed a rig since student status to get his A. Fly it like you stole it!
  13. She may be having to put it on risers. Which can be scary the 1st time you do it. I mean how many people know the correct way rapid links are suppose to go on? Fly it like you stole it!

    ugh....

Well that answers the lack of complete sentences and thoughts. Next time your friends need to unplug your computer....friends don't let friends drink and post. Fly it like you stole it!
  15. When I 1st worked moved here everyone was a bit freaked out about it, but after they learned more about it and the fact that I never got hurt, they chilled out about. Now most of them think it's cool, and several of them want to go do a tandem, they didn't even think about the cold I was the one who said in the spring when it's warm I'll set a tandem weekend up. Now when I broke my wrist snowboard did I ever get razzed, 1st thing my manager said was that I need to stick to safe sports like skydiving. Fly it like you stole it!
  16. edited after I spent more time digging Finally found it. Tell you webmaster to fix the web page, you have to really dig to find it. He/she is referenceing thier computers hard drive for the links in news and events. Fly it like you stole it!
  17. Of course the otherside of the coin is, she is doing nothing wrong, and she catches you. You may end up the one cut away. I know one guy who did exactly what you are doing, and she walked away didn't even glance back, because by that time she was sick of his jealousy, and dis-trust. Fly it like you stole it!
  18. Hey that's the same weekend as the gravityrats boogie. How rude. Fly it like you stole it!

  23. Username: ouroboros palika goldstein Home DZ: skydive chicago License: A A37363 Licensing Org: USPA Number of Jumps: 64 1st off since it has been writen it would be called libel. Let me guess the reason you are supporting Dan is cause you personally talked to him and he told you as a beginer the cobalt would be a great canopy for you? Also you learned at a DZ that trained you on a ZP canopy at ~.8-1:1 If you research other DZs this is not the case most still use very large F-111. Kelli Post approved by my Legal consultant Fly it like you stole it!
  24. The canopy is sensitive to harness imput on opening, is it more so than other ellipticals....well it was definately more so than my crossfire which I had 100 jumps on at the time I jumped a cobalt. I also have a stiletto at a much higher wingloading and it felt about the same on opening to harness imput as the cobalt. This sensitivity to harnes imput is a big reason "beginners" should wait until they have more jumps and experience. I mean look at the girl in the incidents forum who deployed head down.
