  1. Skydive Chambersburg I believe does AFF first jump still.
  2. Congratulations on your graduation!
  3. Normally if conditions are good I will make 8-12 jumps in a day between camera, AFF and fun jumps. The most I ever made in a day was 28, and no, I didn't pack for myself. Nothing compared to Jay or Cheryl. They amaze me.
  4. Thanks for all of the suggestions! We did the hoop jump and it was a blast.
  5. Good idea Daizey! They are funnnnnnn and it doesn't matter how many people go on the dive, we can still do it.
  6. The tandem rigs have a ripcord that the student can pull. Also the parachutes are set up with dual steering controls. The one thing that you want to know is that you are harnessed together prior to leaving the plane, but there is no reason that you are completely at the mercy of the tandem instructor. You should be an active, learning participant in the skydive, (as much as you want to be). Our dropzone requires two tandems also. We used to offer all options for first jump courses, but it quickly became apparent that tandem was the quickest, safest, and most effective way to introduce someone to the sport. It is an integral part of our training for many reasons. It makes the first solo jump course much more effective, because you are able to truly understand the material that the instructor is explaining after you have made a tandem. Not just by imagining it, but because you experienced it. The advantages of the canopy control learning on tandems are obvious. This allows you a comfort level under canopy that frees your mind to concentrate on the freefall learning objectives more readily. I could go on and on. Best of luck with your skydive!
  7. They seem to be cheaper if they are set up by the DZ. If the balloon pilot is willing to take jumpers at all, they generally want the price for their least expensive ride. $75 is not uncommon. Most balloon pilots prefer tree topping to flying high (above 1500ft) in my experience. So jumps are generally done from 3 - 5K. If you are doing a balloon jump, I recommend that you arrange for your own ground crew. The balloon crew's primary responsibility is to the balloon, and typically you don't land in the same place as the balloon.
  8. :15:1 15 skydives, bout time we got some warm weather! Shame the winds were a bit high, could have gotten a few more in (definitely no more pink). Lots of fun skydives. Firsts - First time meeting PhreeZone in person. Way cool. Look forward to joining the flock. I think I heard the fountain calling your name
  9. That is terrific. Glad you decided to live your life to the fullest. Keep it up and enjoy! It is better to be broke and happy, than rich and miserable.
  10. How fast is your plane? It looks like you have seven USPA dz's in the state, scattered from one end to the other. Above the Poconos Skydivers/NEPA Ripcords, Inc., 90 miles west of New York City Chambersburg Skydiving Center, Inc., 55 miles south of Harrisburg Kutztown Skydiving Center, 16 miles west of Allentown Maytown Sport Parachute Club, 20 miles east of Harrisburg Pennsylvania Skydiving U. Corp., 25 miles southeast of State College Skydive Pennsylvania, 50 miles north of Pittsburgh The Skydivin' Place, Inc., 40 miles north of Baltimore, Maryland I love flying to a dz, dropping my friends in. Spending some time jumping and then flying back home!
  11. Cool! 40 years is awesome. Are you going to jump a C-9 for old times sake? Welcome to the forums.
  12. Welcome to the forums. Great to have you
  13. I agree, tunnel time is very addictive. I can't seem to go to Florida without hitting Skyventure. I find myself to be a bit of a pusher also. I tell anyone that I can, to go fly the tunnel, especially students that are having trouble. What a difference it makes for them! I keep watching the X-arena website to see if there is any progress on the one that is supposed to be built in Trenton, NJ, but haven't seen any progress on the arena yet, let alone the tunnel which is secondary to them it seems. Wish I had 4.5 mil to put one in my backyard!
  14. Don is just not a computer person. Our joke is that when he so much as gets near my computer, it goes on the fritz. He is more of an outdoors guy. Construction foreman for a living, skydiver for a passion, landscaping and gardening as a hobby.
  15. I don't think that Dause is a dz.commer, but I could be wrong. Last I checked a hop-n-pop involved getting out of an airplane and landing safely under an open parachute. This qualifies as a "actual jump" according to both USPA and the Guinness Book of World Records. I guess you better tell all the dz.commers that make hop-n-pops to swoop that those jumps aren't actual jumps either. How about the current record holder for the most jumps in a 24 hour period? I guess they weren't actual jumps either? Won't he be surprised to find that out? Don Kellner, who currently holds the Guinness World in the "Career Total - Sport Parachute Jumps" category has over 34,000 skydives, but he will never be a dz.commer.
  16. Walk away from that job and get one that allows you to enjoy your life. Work to live, not live to work!
  17. Just checking in to see how you made out this weekend. I also would definitely encourage the use of the tunnel. It helps not only with specific skills, but gives you the confidence to be able to relax in freefall. When students get into an uncontrollable turn they tend to tense up. When you tense your muscles, it tends to increase the spin problem. Relaxing is definitely key.
  18. Yes, there are times when you just need to talk to a skydiver! Welcome aboard.
  19. Congratulations! I had to laugh because the title line of your post was a line I wrote in my logbook on my 11th jump. I still look back on that and smile. Best wishes for your training.
  20. You rock Daizey! How did she do that? Three working tandems, three IAF's, 14 minutes of skyventure wind tunnel time with good coaching. Refresher training. Kick butt attitude. This all led to superb performance on her two customized AFF dives Look forward to jumping with you again soon.
