Malfunctions are not Incidents
rocketdog replied to MakeItHappen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
perhaps people place it under "Incidents" because moderators are upset with threads being wrongly posted ......? not to mention the description of the "Incidents" forum is very broad see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com -
a good year ago our dropzone "mascot" was Sadie -- the cockatiel.... everyone tried soooooo hard to get the bird to say "hook it" or "freefly" now that the bird is in a pet store, i wonder if it says either of the above?! see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

When I arrived @ the dz without gear, jumpers & staff were extremely helpful & willing to put together gear for me to jump. The people were so inviting, friendly, and it was a very comfortable/relaxing atmosphere. A HUGE open area to land in -- only regrets were that there wasn't much action -- but HEY I'm not a turbine snob :) If you're a pond swooper you will *LOVE* this pond!! it's an ideal size with a majority of outs ...EnJoY!

Do you have to wear a jumpsuit
rocketdog replied to jump_or_die's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
skydivingdutch -- you can still learn to sitfly in pants.... fly your body not the clothes. it may be hard, but learning to freefly in general is hard @ first. i have 100+ jumps in yoga pants (cuz i'm too poor to buy a suit) & when i borrowed a friend's FF suit, i hated it! -- too much drag! hang in there, you'll get it! see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com -

HEY BEN -- ITS HOLLYWOOD (from the Richmond boogie) anyway, our club also has $20 dues, but then IF you decide to come back you CONTINUE to get discounted jumps...... we worked w/ our DZO to cut a little bit off each jump, but not enough that the DZ is foregoing a profit.... make sense? also, we give them a certificate & membership card, have a "Day @ The Dropzone" (where EVERYONE comes for a really cheap day of jumping) and invite them to stay for the party hmmm.... thats all i can think of off the top of my head, but it is REALLY hard to get our students to come back for a 2nd jump -- especially if tandem is their first. KEEP IN TOUCH! ~hollywood see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

Who Lives and Who Dies????
rocketdog replied to MakeItHappen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i would think one's personal answer is dependent upon their culture: religion, personal views, meaning of a "safe" skydiver etc. very well-stated..... sounds like it should be in a Psychological journal or something!?!?! IN RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE POST MakeItHappen, I would hope that you are not attacking someone offering their experiences/suggestions!! ....Being that you have X amount of jumps, you should know first-hand that it is up to skydivers to discriminate the information they acquire. A prime example is Flat packing vs. Pro packing.... both sides will argue themselves to death -- in the end, only the person under the canopy needs to make that judgment. I believe there is a much more tactful, constructive way to phrase what is probably your intention. see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com -
Do you walk across a taxi-way after you land?
rocketdog replied to skyhussy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions

i work in the office @ our DZ, and the common stats i've always heard (which i believe from sitting in the office for so long): Tandems don't have a high retention rate because in 1 jump you've got the entire package -- the canopy control, the minute or so of freefall, with minimal training time. AFF actually has the highest retention rate. While more expensive, you receive that 1-on-1 or 1-on-2 direct attention & go through valuable training. don't know much about S/L?! i know its cheapest!!!! see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com

WHY DO YOU THINK THERE IS THAT LAW? Because it is part of someone's personal life that does not affect the quality of his/her profession! Yes, to a degree people with the disease have a "moral obligation".... but so does everyone else. Obviously the person who he/she contracted HIV from had a "moral obligation" -- but didn't disclose that information. Since you seem so adament about knowing everyone's personal business, how would you like to walk around with a sign around your neck saying: "hi, i've had unprotected sex with 60 people" -- you would feel labeled & like a social outcast would you not? It's the same scenario by demanding that people inform you whether or not they are HIV+. see the world! http://gorocketdog.blogspot.com
