  2. holy hell, that was TOO FUN!!!! And this coming from a "good catholic boy," but hey, I can always go to confession -the artist formerly known as sinker
  3. I second that... as a research analyst in the clinical trials industry, the only thing I could do would be to enroll injured base jumpers into placebo controlled pain studies, possibly getting them the latest and greatest pain drugs. -the artist formerly known as sinker
  4. i think that's a bit of a stretch there john. not only that, but you may be held liable if a crime is committed w/ the gun if it is demonstrated by counsel that you were somehow "negligent" in your storage of the firearm in your vehicle. The number of people killed last year in car accidents: 42,000 The number of people murdered last year with guns: 10,000 I would hope that a reasonable jury would not hold me responsible for a crime I didn't commit, done with a gun stolen from a locked car. I'll take my chances on that one. I don't live in a state where those kind of whacko court decisions occur. the key words in your post are "reasonable jury".... in many places today those words can't be used in the same sentence. and descriptive stats to describe what causes more deaths can be deceiving... at any given time, more cars are "in play" than guns so it isn't surprising there will be a greater likelihood that they will be instrumental in killing more people. -the artist formerly known as sinker

I'm afraid to ask what has come outta that mans mouth - his perverse mind and all. Don't believe a word of it, I'm an HA! don't worry, finger sniffer... it was all good! -the artist formerly known as sinker
  6. your rig will be less likely used to kill/injure people... A stolen car is more likely to be used to kill someone, than a stolen gun. Should we all ride horses to the DZ? i think that's a bit of a stretch there john. not only that, but you may be held liable if a crime is committed w/ the gun if it is demonstrated by counsel that you were somehow "negligent" in your storage of the firearm in your vehicle. -the artist formerly known as sinker
  7. Would you gamble your life on that estimation? that's why i'm asking the questions... i wasn't there... but letting the kid go back w/ the gun just seemed off to me. -the artist formerly known as sinker
  8. A home security system doesn't save you - it just calls the cops, who then might take quite a long time to arrive. What are you going to do in the meantime if the intruder keeps coming at you? Good luck... Many people can't afford home security systems. They can't afford to choose to live in a nice neighborhood. Besides, if everyone moved out of the bad neighborhoods, where do you think the criminals would go? To the good neighborhoods, to prey on people there, and turn them into bad neighborhoods. Pepper spray is not as effective as a gun. Not even close. Common sense is only partially effective. Many people use it, and still become victims of crime. You can still have and do all those things, even while owning a gun. But when all else fails, a gun is the best tool to have as a final resort for personal protection. speaking of calling the cops, either by a tripped alarm system (very long response), or by dialing 911, if you are harmed from the perp and you try to SUE the cops, you will LOSE! It's happened many times in this country... Courts have ruled that they DO NOT have a duty to protect private citizens. They have a duty to protect the public. Their failure to stop a violent crime from occurring on your property is not their fault. So, if you really want to protect yourself, buy a good firearm, LEARN how to safely use it, and don't be afraid to protect yourself. -the artist formerly known as sinker
  9. Unclear what their ages were (guessing 16-17), but I certainly wouldn't walk TOWARDS a guy with a chambered round, finger on the trigger, and pointing it towards me. Until it's away from his hands, running like hell is the best course of action. at 25ft away, hiding behind a bush, odds are decent that the guy would miss even if he wanted to hit Bill. but it seemed clear that the kid would listen to commands, such as put that down! step back! point that at the ground! remove your finger from the trigger! -the artist formerly known as sinker

  11. Does that mean you are pro-choice? To a point, yes. Many people find that odd, because they equate pro-gun people with anti-abortion positions. But I find those two things to be in contradiction. If you want the right to own a potentially deadly firearm, that should be a free personal choice which comes with responsibility. Likewise, if you want to have a deadly abortion, up to a point, that also should be a free personal choice with great responsibility. The bottom line for me is personal freedom, rather than trying to tell others what they can and cannot do. But let's not turn this into an abortion debate. interesting caveat... i see the owning of and willingness to use a firearm as an extension of my pro-life modus operandi. I will not let some one who has chosen a life of crime to deprive me or my loved ones of our God-given life. I will stand and fight for our lives, even if that means taking the life of someone who has chosen an evil path. I don't buy that shit of "it must have been God's will" that someone got raped or someone got murdered... He doesn't will that... and I sure as hell won't allow it if I have any say... -the artist formerly known as sinker

  16. why did you not take the gun from him and rack it to remove any possible chambered round? i wouldn't have trusted the dude to even walk it back to it's "hiding place." (not to second guess you or anything...) -the artist formerly known as sinker
  17. I certainly do believe they are (typ) anti gun, even in hero stories. But, if your story WAS written up, no mention of you using the gun would appear. See the headline "Wealthy White Suburban Home Owner Terrorizes Honor Student - page 3" And everything about it would be a lie... except i'm white and own my home... i'm far from wealthy, i live in the city, not the burbs, and this dude was no honor student.. no student at all in fact... he'd dropped out of school a few years back... i wonder where he is now.... -the artist formerly known as sinker
  18. well, glad he got a gun safety course under his belt. man, how frightening! I hope he's learned valuable lessons and isn't so cavalier in the future. -the artist formerly known as sinker
  19. not so much, but :Man shoots poor kid makes the news Man quietly stops burglary threat, had nice conversation - doesn' sell papers. I think the kid told you what you wanted to hear (you didn't press charges right?) Then went and told his friends to not rob your house (because you seemed decent AND had a gun). (It's cheaper to just go rob someone else that arm yourself and go to a place that might get hurt) Or we was sincere. Either way, you win. Maybe the next house over can sue you when they get robbed, because by you making your house a less inviting target resulted in them being a more inviting target. (or should I be giving anti-gun types more ideas? shhhh) do you honestly believe the mainstream media is NOT anti-gun? i wasn't exactly thinking that my story is news worthy, but considering that armed citizens successfully deter violent crimes (violent crime has dropped in EVERY SINGLE state that has passed concealed carry laws), you'd think THAT would be newsworthy... i think he was sincere... i am generally a good judge of character in person, having been a therapist for years. who knows... maybe he did go back to his criminal ways... hard to change your ways if you don't change your friends, your environment and all that, but seeing your life pass before your eyes can be a powerful motivator. -the artist formerly known as sinker
  20. Because a baseball bat is less effective then a gun at stopping the crime and avoiding injury. Ah, but so much more satisfying! Until your arms get tired, then use the gun. LMAO!!!! GAWD that was funny!!! if only you could get your avatar to wink at me.... *swoon* -the artist formerly known as sinker

  23. actually, the great majority of the public are NOT armed... in fact, in states where it is legal to get a concealed carry license, the citizens who actually avail themselves of the option are quite small. still, i think one gets used to the general ubiquity of guns. just like anything else, guns are just another "thing" just another object, having no inherent moral value... again, they've been demonized by politicians, the media, movies, etc. for so long that to see a big evil black gun causes a visceral reaction in many people. when I come upon a person who is legally carrying, i have no fear. I don't assume that they are mentally unstable or that I need to walk on eggshells around them... weapons in the house, similar story... my kids are 8, 6, 2 and a half and 8 months. the younger two obviously are too young to learn the ropes of gun safety, but the 2.5 year old knows to never touch daddy's gun. however, the 6 and 8 year old have held daddies gun. they know what it looks like, where it's stored, what it feels like, what bullets look like, etc. if this frightens people it SHOULDN"T!!! parents need to de-mystify guns! they can't be this hidden, secret thing! that's what gets kids into trouble. my kids can recite at the drop of a hat the 4 cardinal rules of gun safety. I can put my handgun -unloaded- on the floor and give them the word to safely handle it and they do... finger always off the trigger, out of the trigger guard, muzzle pointed down, never at anything or anyone they aren't willing to shoot, always assuming the gun is loaded, etc. They handle my Kimber .45 better than most adults! And I've taken them shooting... they've seen what bullets do to gallon jugs of water and to veggies. They know to never touch the gun unless given permission. It's not an issue for the kids. I don't fear an accident in this house, just as my dad, a retired cop, who hung his gun belt -w/ gun in it- up on his bdrm door every night, didn't fear one in our house growing up. -the artist formerly known as sinker

  25. I am not a redneck. Some of you know it is with reluctance that I actually admit to living in the south, due to the predjudicial contempt a lot of people have for those who live in the south. That being said, I'd much rather have a redneck on my side than a pompous ass who dismisses those who like shooting, blowing up things, and other various redneck "sports". The rednecks I know here in Tennessee are typically very loyal to their friends, incredibly hard workers, will do about anything to help out someone in need, and, while simple in the cerebral areas, usually sincere and honest. I'll take that over arrogance, elitism and dickheadedness any day. -the artist formerly known as sinker
