I directed this to military guys since I figured they'd have more access to this in foreign places where perhaps it wasn't illegal like it is here. I don't know how many US guys (or how many broke skydivers... hahahahaha) make it to places in the far East or Mid East or countries over there. Anyway, based on the responses here I guess it's relatively common. BTW it was quite a few years ago back when there weren't women on the ships. Someone suggested I supply some stories of my naughty behavior from the past (or present...) but then I'd be giving this certain skygod some fuel for the fire... so I'll save those stories for another "anonymous" post at another time.

Heya... this question is for military guys... more specifically I guess, men in the Navy. I'm just wondering if it's considered "normal" or just something that perhaps "younger" (i.e. 18 - 24 year old) guys do to get a... umm... ok.. prostitute, when you are in port in certain foreign countries? I'm not trying to judge anyone. I have a good friend and really had NO idea that he would do that... so I was a bit disappointed in him. However, when chatting further I started to think that maybe I was being judgemental, and perhaps if someone was on a ship for months and months at a time with all men, that maybe when they got to port they would need some female... uhhh... screwing... whatever. Anyway, is this fairly common? If so, I guess I would feel better and understand why he would "purchase" a whore. If someone wants to post or PM me anonymously, that's ok... like I said, I won't know who you are and won't judge... i'm just trying to find out if this is something that is considered normal to do (I'm thinking it might also be legal in certain places too, like Thailand or those areas).

My brother had an Evel Knievel action figure, but the motorcycle kept tipping over. If you didn't get it moving fast enough (I think you had to pull it backwards a few times, then release it) it just went kerplop. I liked the cool outfit, though.

I like websites that have webcams. Empuriabrava has a good one: http://www.skydiveempuriabrava.com/webcam3.php?id=2 Perris used to have webcams, but not anymore.

If you were out of the sport for a while....
GumbyGirl replied to skyejumper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just make sure when you come back that you have enough time to devote to staying current. I've known people who've come back for a few months but then had to stop again because they couldn't make it to the dz once or twice a month. It's a waste of money to buy new gear/get current and then just lapse again. -
It couldn't be any more dangerous than some of the other shows. Besides, the "celebrities" would have to sign the standard skydiving waiver so it's not like they could sue.

Is there anything almost as good as skydiving?

Non alcoholic beer tastes like crap, though. -
Keeping in touch with friends who quit jumping
GumbyGirl replied to skyejumper's topic in The Bonfire
occasionally i'll see people at different dz's. once i took a trip to a dz that was about 400 miles from where I live, and ran into 2 guys from an old dz i went to 5 years before that. -
Will be there for freefly events.... 3 days. Hope to meet some so.cal freefliers and talk to the swoopers for some helpful hints.

Just thought i'd put that out there. Apple pie. mmmm.... cherry pie. Not pumpkin pie. Not pecan pie. chocolate pie! Umm... mostly the fruit kinds... especially if they're warm and have a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I thought it was pretty funny, too! There's no harm in skydivers looking out for each other when we just have other people's best interests in mind.

Telling your SKYDIVING girlfriend how much she rocks
GumbyGirl replied to GumbyGirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I couldn't be with someone who didn't support my activities. I bungee jump and snowboard too, so if they're concerned about my "safety" and try to get me to quit, then they're going to be cutaway mighty fast! My b.f. was sweet this past weekend.. though he still doesn't compliment my awesome jumping (and NO, I don't suck!), it's cool. You guys make me smile. -
Telling your SKYDIVING girlfriend how much she rocks
GumbyGirl replied to GumbyGirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We had a little discussion. He said he'd try to be more complimentary. And yes, I tell him he rocks all the time. We both have around the same # of jumps... between 700-900. I guess it's not a huge deal that he doesn't say it, coz he shows it. But it would be nice. It's a good thing I'm a secure person. Thank you all for the support. It's nice to know that the love is out there, even it I don't get to hear it one of one from my guy. -

Does any female skydiver (or male skydiver) have a significant other in the sport who doesn't compliment them... ever?!?! I'm not sure if it's just a "guy" thing.. not to tell someone how you feel about them.. but my guy has never said, "You rock", or "your skydiving kicks ass".. or even how sexy I look with my grippers! C'mon guys... skydiving chicks need to feel the love!!! -
If your L.O. is constantly putting too many people on the dive, so that you know there's no chance of success, can you say something to them? I know a couple of L.O.'s whose dives have NO chance of success. Too many points. Too many people. I mention breaking it down to smaller groups, but they seem to feel that everyone should be on one big jump.

Remember that you're going a lot faster in a swoop. Put on the brakes a lot sooner.... better to stop a bit high and short, than to take out a formation, or hurt someone or yourself! Swooping is fun once you get the hang of it. My friends and I would do mini-speedstar dives just for fun.

I agree with Tweaked. The four A's sound like a good plan to me.

I've seen plenty of skills camps for 4-way... but not 8 way stuff. Anyone know of a decent dropzone in CA or the Northwest that has such a training camp? My DZ is small.. so there's not enough of us to form a decent team. Has anyone here on a 4-way team hooked up w/ another team at nationals and had some decent 8-way?

yeah, Albatross.. don't be such a snob. Some people aren't as competitive and if they just want to fun jump, then you don't need a coach. You can learn a lot from flying relative with less experienced people. Not everyone can afford coaching either, and at smaller DZs they aren't as readily available.
