Damn I am just unlucky!!! About 4 months ago the dodgy carb in my Dad's car went mental and fired me into the back of a car at a set of lights. No damage to their car, it didn't move (only about 1ft between cars), only a slight dent on my bonnet/hood, so I thought it would be okay. Turns out it was an undercover police car on their way somewhere important, I get questioned for driving without due care and attention (2 weeks until I'm officially off the hook), have to go in to give a statement under caution the next day, then get sued by the two fat pigs in the car for whiplash (which is impossible to sustain without 10mph acceleration/deceleration force - I hit them at 1-2 mph). End result: Dad's car scrapped, our insurance goes up shitloads due to the £10,000 paid out, I now have no respect for those in authority (not that I did anyway). But, I have their names and addresses, so I may just get my Dad's 4x4 and "finish the job" - BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! Nick This username sucks, so I'm BBKid now instead. Yeah, body maintainance is important, but I should point out that there is an unbelievably large number of people who overpronate (used to be called having flat feet). Try www.orthoheel.com (I don't know how to do clicky), and get the sport insoles if you commonly get stress fractures. I only found out I overpronate after collapsing in the street with 4 broken metatarsals 12 miles into a 13.1 mile run (Great North Run training). Avoid stress fractures at all costs - they will put you out of action for about 2 months if they are bad, and stop you jumping (or landing) for about 3. If you want to improve your times on 5 or 8 mile runs I recommend a treadmill. This has a softer surface than concrete, and the fact that it is constantly moving will improve your rhythm and technique no end. I used to take about 50 mins for a 5 mile road run, after using a treadmill in training 4 times a week or so I can do it on the road in 38 (and I'm not particularly fit). Hope some of this helps. Don't forget that the Taliban, and many, many Al Q'aida were trained and funded by the CIA to fight the Soviets. As for saying that OBL and SH could be in cahoots because they have mutual enemies, that is rubbish - OBL has stated many times that he would like to kill Hussein because he is a secular and not a Muslim leader, so I doubt very much that they have the same interest in destroying 'Western' (hate that word) society. Just my tuppence in the hat. Nick This username sucks, so I'm BBKid now instead. Replies, insults, sexual favours and death threats to be sent there from now on.

New weapons in Iraq... Tic.. Toc.. Tic.. Toc....
staticnewbie replied to rhino's topic in The Bonfire
LMFAO!!! I'm guessing most people on this thread are American (too lazy to check profiles), and most people here in the UK are in stitches at the rubbish people like Powell come out with. Bottom line: Saddam is an evil git, he will kill his own people. However, he won't attack the US or its interests (defence excepted) because he knows that his country will then be bombed to bits. He would run away in this instance, but he also knows that once he runs away he will have no loyalty and will be turned in by his own generals. "Iran will soon have nukes, North Korea already does" - has nothing to do with Iraq! If you have a problem with nukes go to the countries that already have them, and I include the US and UK here - being Western doesn't mean you are trustworthy. "Serious consequences" does NOT spell military action, and even if it did, resolution 1441 sets out the guidelines under which 'military action' COULD be taken. The fact that you CAN do something does not necessarily mean that you SHOULD do something. Rant over: be nice to each other people. Saw him race the classics at the Brit GP the last 2 years - he walked all over them even though he wasn't on the quickest bike. Prayers for his family. Nick This username sucks, so I'm BBKid now instead. Replies, insults, sexual favours and death threats to be sent there from now on.

Hey jerry - no I haven't done any freeflying yet, but the problem is that at my DZ all the suits are too short or too narrow-shouldered for me (6'2''), and I figure it's easier to make a freefly suit myself and save the cash for a RW suit. That will probably work better than trying to do it the other way round! Plus we have symbiosis suits over here in the UK, and very few companies who make FF suits (at least that people reccommend - hope I'm not offending anyone ). Regarding the other info. people have posted, thanks a lot, I'm not sure where I will get all this smart material from, but since Mum/Mom is an experienced seamstress with an overlocker I think I'll manage OK - may even start my own company if it works well.... Just wondering what material all your freefly jumpsuits are made from, as I'm planning to get with the sewing machine and make my own over Easter. I know most companies offer cotton, but all the guys at my DZ seem to have a 'shiny' material. They claim it's cotton, but does anyone know if it's a particular type, and where I can get it from? How seriously are you taking the new alert?
staticnewbie replied to cameramonkey's topic in The Bonfire
Have all Brits seen the trailer for the expertly timed documentary "Lionheart - The Crusade", to be shown on 6th March? D'oh!!!!! That should bring confidence to the Muslim community over here. The fact that the guy who's supposedly playing Saladin in the reconstructions looks slightly LESS realistic than Bernard Bresslaw in Carry On Up The Khyber is just insulting as well. I was in Newcastle (cold northern English city) earlier, and all the kids bust out of school early to put on protests, which I thought was very 1970's. I would have joined in, but they wanted people to wear pink headbands, and that added to the flowers on my jumpsuit would just have raised too many questions in my head Have fun everyone, and if you see G.W. do the world a favour and offer him a sharp pretzel. Erm, coming from Britain I should inform you that it's actually going to become Vietnam II, i.e.war for no good reason, whole world against you etc. etc. I can't believe Tony B. is going along with G.W., if we do go to war he'll be cleaning windows this time next year, probably screwing that up too Nick P.S. Hey guys! I'd better point out that I only have 2 jumps (both static line), so have no idea what freefall is like. I had this weird dream but based loosely in fact. In real life: at the DZ the other day two of the instructors were running around, basically acting dumb (no difference there), and one of them charged through a door and slammed into one of the pilots. This old guy was really pissed and everyone started complaining that from then on we were all going to get bad spots. Anyway, the other night I had this dream that we were at about 18,000 ft (a dream remember) on a sunset load, then this old pilot guy decides he's going to jump out with us (and he's not a skydiver). When we jump it strangely turns into just me and him in the sky, but he's still pissed about being knocked over by the instructor, so won't fly with me. Anyhoo, I'm just freeflying around, having a ball (I hope that's what freefall really feels like), then I pull. When my canopy inflates, I see that the old guy has pulled too, and is a good distance away, so I decide to mess around with front riser turns. As I go into a sharp hook, I see the duffer below me, but I can't get out of his way. I spiral straight towards him, and my feet catch his canopy, causing it to collapse (all at about 7,000ft). He disappears above me, and I just laugh all the way to the ground. Am I just sick or something? Nick This username sucks, so I'm BBKid now instead. Thanks for all the replies guys and gals. Keep 'em coming. I must say that everyone I know thinks I am totally insane for jumping out of a plane with two parachutes, an RSL and an AAD, yet they're perfectly happy to free-climb El Capitan or similar. The thing that got me interested in the subject is the fact that I'm terrified of heights, so did my first jump to get over it. It didn't really work as well as I hoped, because once you've jumped and your canopy is open, that fear of splattering into the ground is gone, yet standing on the roof of a four storey building still makes me feel sick. Thus I took up rock climbing, thinking that voluntarily going up would do more for my vertigo than falling down under canopy. Unfortunately even when I'm only about twenty feet up I start shaking pathetically! To me the risk of skydiving is lower than the risk of climbing: two parachutes, RSL, AAD - as compared to rope fraying on rock, me falling from rock, protection giving way, rockfall, mess on ground. Does this look like I've got it a bit backward to anyone else? Nick This username sucks, so I'm BBKid now instead. Replies, insults, sexual favours and death threats to be sent there from now on.

I realise I'll probably get blasted into Talkback here, but I'm doing a project on how rock climbers evaluate risk, but want to compare it to skydivers. If any of you can nicely put into words how you rationalise the fact that you hurl yourself from aircraft just for fun, I would love to hear it. If any of you climb as well as jump, or jump BASE, that would be even more useful to hear your comparisons between the different disciplines. As a final request (and I realise I'm pushing my luck here), if anyone is kind enough to e-mail detailed accounts, contact info. etc. to me at nick_loony@yahoo.co.uk I would be eternally grateful. I suspect you're all starting to smell beer... Cheers, Nick This username sucks, so I'm BBKid now instead. Replies, insults, sexual favours and death threats to be sent there from now on.

landing a birdman suit.. it IS doable..?
staticnewbie replied to kevin922's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Sorry, I meant 90mph forward speed in one direction, and 35-40 in another, so average 60mph in a kind of diagonal. Don't forget that being thrown off would give you upward-downward speed too, so it wouldn't be like just falling 15 feet. Anyway, it was only an idea! staticnewbie replied to kevin922's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Actually, if you were prepared you wouldn't kill yourself doing this. A few weeks ago a friend og mine had a pretty nasty 120mph highside on his motorbike, went about 15 feet up in the air (still with forward momentum), and landed at what I and other spectators guessed to be about 90mph forward speed, and 35-40mph forward speed. Because he had decent protective equipment he walked away with a bruised arse, and nothing more. I'm still not suggesting anyone try this though - post the video if you do :) Nick This username sucks, so I'm BBKid now instead. Maybe I've just seen "Dropzone" (bad Wesley Snipes film) one too many times, but why not get a huge truck with mattresses on the back, and have it drive along at about 80mph so you could drop your wingsuit onto it at relative speed of 0mph? Kind of like a clip I've seen where a guy jumps out of a plane with wingsuit on, the plane circles around and he just flies back in. With a huge grin on his face. He was wearing a rig though....
