  1. If you disagree... then you are wrong. Just kidding. Here's how it should read.... Big skydiving canopies may become fairly boring. But I see your point, especially as a new skydiver that has so much to learn under canopy. I too like shooting accuracy and such, but I gotta tell ya, flying a skydiving canopy is a lot of fun. 3. Price is certainly a cosideration. I suggest this ==> Don't wear out your BASE canopy skydiving with it. You can often find a used Raven 3 or 4 for cheap. I found my my used Raven III for only a couple hundred bucks. If you've priced out a new BASE canopy, it's not cheap. Used ones are available so if you do find one for a decent price, you might as well grab it. BASE canopies can easily be packed up to open slower. 4. Scary how close our answers are... I wrote this earlier but left in a hurry before posting... here it is. I"ll answer specifically then offer my opinion. would that be a good idea? It's not a BAD Idea. But, unless you find a cheap used one in the appropriatte size, something like a Super Raven would be cheaper. Buy a new(er) BASE specific canpopy later. A canopy with 250 jumps isn't necessarily worn out. I've seen many go longer but think of the beating a BASE canopy takes. Wait until later to buy a BASE canopy. Jump it a few times out of an airplane, then BASE jump it. (disclaimer added ... learn to BASE through proper channles) An RSL connects to the riser so any skydiving setup can have an RSL if you so desire. Any skydiving rig that's large enough to hold either your BASE canopy, or a large Super raven is fine. An old Vector II, a Student rig .. anything really. If you plan to freefly in it, well, it's going to be big, and it must then be freefly ready so that will be the limiting factor. If you plan to skydive the canopy many times, pack it in a d-bag as normal ----------- For now, I wouldn't worry too much about BASE specific skydiving. If it truly is your only goal, that's fine but give skydiving a try for a while. Big skydiving canopies become fairly boring, however, if you do dial one in, when you begin BASE jumping, the transition will be a much easier one. CReW is the best discipline to learn canopy flight however it may not be your discipline of choice. Do some CReW for a while regardless. I would suggest an appropriatly sized skydiving rig and canopy suitable for freeflying. Simply go skydive. Do RW, freestyle, tracking... etc... Really learn to track. It comes in handy if you choose to jump tall objects. Become proficient. You may like it. Go get used to skydiving and have fun. Skydiving has a lot to offer. If you simply don't wish to skydive for skydiving sake, then by all means, get that big 7 cell However, learn how to skydive proficiently. Hope that helps. 7. Open high, about 10,000 feet at least. Take note to see if the brake lines are long enough. They should be bowed out with some slack so it won't deflect the tail during front riser input. Just fly it around turning it and flaring it. Hang in deep brakes, then pull the toggles down farther to stall it. To what degree you stall it is up to you. At least find that point a few times. Then CRANK the front risers down, farther than you ever would normally, to see how it reacts. If it folds under.... bag it up and send it back. Tell everyone you know what happened. I haven't seen a canopy as of late that will react that way but you do need to know if it will. Do hard front riser spirals Fly around on rear risers After all that is done, chances are it's time to set up for landing. I like to see if it surfs well. Also it's good to land it straight in with no added input. If you get to fly it enough, do a braked approach as well. That comes in handy sinking it into someones back yard. Why do this you ask? The first reason is pretty straight forward. You want to know if you like the way it feels. Secondly if it reacts in an undesirable manner during hard front riser input, the canopy needs to be re-designed. Here is the reason I test a new canopy in an overly aggresive manner. My friend Frank was a good swooper. He flew an Excalibur until it was very worn and then started flying a Pintail. The excalibur had no odd flying traits. The Pintail did. After a 40 way skydive, he landed straight in because of traffic. He intended to build up speed by pulling down the front risers, which he did. It folded up at around 80 feet above the ground. Frank was a role model to me. His last landing, was his final lesson. THAT is why a demo canopy should be flown and tested hard before buying it. Nova, Pintail, Conquest... and I'm sure a few others were dangerous canopies. Take the Conquest for instance, If you pull the front risers down, the results often become very undesirable. When the Stiletto came out and I demoed one. Try as I might to fold it up, the canopy stayed inflated. It flew nice, landed well... so I bought one. Obviously some test flights aren't going to be so aggressive due to experience levels but all the same tests should be applied. The end result should be: Fun factor = high Correct size Safe flight characteristics. Good flare Good floatability... (doesn't sink out in Brakes, and isn't ground hungry) Note - often ground hungry is a desired traight so that is somewhat subjective. I look forward to reading other suggestions as well. K - back to work Hope that helps. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

  12. The mail gateway at the place I USED to work at was set up quite well. Symantec was the corporate wide antivirus solution. It worked fine there Phree Besides, it wasn't my decision, but it was my responsibility. I haven't used the McAfee enterprise product. I'm sure it does a fine job :) My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  13. If you're using Symantec Enterprise, the antivirus server can be set up to do an automatic FTP download of the daily releases and force the clients to be updated as well. If it's not set up that way, you get to wait till wednesday like every one else. Search out cegetter.bat on the symantec site and it will give clear instructions on how to do this. 21. When you're 10, that's not much of a consideration. Now that I'm a big kid... more than 10, if I needed to slide under, I might grab paper towels and plant my ass on them and slide away.
  22. That stuff is way overkill. If you've never drank it before... do it on an empty stomach and drink the entire can.
  23. If you really need in to a locked stall, slide under. Or... go hop a tall fence about 50 times until you have it down. Never thought to go over the top, but then again, haven't slid under one since I was a child. I thought it was funny to lock it and leave. 24. I'm not sure where that idea came from. There is nothing to inhibit the launch of the VooDoo pilotchute no matter what size main is used. The reserve system is quite rigger friendly and packing the main is packer friendly. It takes a couple pack jobs to figure out that there's no real trick to closing the main. Just put the bag in and close it. The main container will hold more than one size canopy however too small of a canopy is a poor idea since there is no pressure from the canopy filling the main area. The 3 rings do sit up higher as mentioned by JP, so try one out to see if feels ok. They hold their value. ... except of course the huge one with the big ole dragonfly on it .... It's a nice streamlined rig. I'd consider the VooDoo if I wasn't already sold on the Infinity. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
