So what *exactly* would they be arrested for? I mean, obviously problems damaging property, etc., but if they were actually not tresspassing (i.e. they paid for the room), and if they hadn't had any property-damage issues, what would they be charged with? Is there actually a law against jumping there? How common are laws that prohibit the actual act of jumping? I was getting my ears pierced Sunday; I went into the room where I was getting it done, and there was a skateboard on the wall, so I (trying to make conversation, while the guy was poking a needle through me) asked, "So... you skateboard?" He said yes, and proceeded to go on about how cool he was, basically. He asked if I did anything like that, and I said, "Yeah, I skydive a little..." And he started going on and on about how he's done "like, thirty jumps, or something..." and how a bunch of them were tandems, and he'd never really taken any training, but he's sat around at the dz long enough to "just sorta pick it up..." And then he told me about how he's "jumped off of this cliff in ***** a few times, with a parachute." I was like, "You mean BASE jumping?" And he said, "Yeah, right... it was cool, but you don't really get to fall for as long." Then he told me he'd made a skydive that lasted half an hour. Wish I'd asked him what altitude he jumped from... I was thinking, "Oh great, and this guy is poking a six-inch needle through my flesh... wonderful." Now my question: why would you actually attempt to BS something like skydiving to a person who skydives? How could you expect to sound like you halfway know what you're talking about? Yeah, I think half of the appeal is that he's somewhat close to my age, though... there are no guys at the dz who are in my age bracket. (I was told once that guys are supposed to divide their age by two and add seven, and that's how old the girl that they date is supposed to be. Anyone ever gone metal detecting under a dz? I know of a few car keys, etc. that could turn up!!! (Granted they're mostly lost at around 10k, so they wouldn't *actually* be on the dz... I realize that.

I had a friend come to the dz with me to do a tandem, and his parents came along. Once we got there, though, his mom was so excited that she did one too. I think she had more fun than he did! Yup! I've gotten seven people to do their first jumps. It's fun when they get back down, and they're like, "So this is why you're so obsessed!" I'm also secretary of UW-Madison's skydiving club; we take a bunch of people down to the dz once a semester who've never jumped before. We had about 70 go this fall.
