are aads becoming mandatory in usa
jeremyneas replied to Jumpmunki's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I thought that Mike Hawks was trying to push for legislation that would mandate AAD's in NV (long time ago). I don't know what came of it. -

Ok then, first the student pulls the reserve out and looks to make sure there is no hole in the slider, then lets break out the aircraft paperwork, and he should rip the cylinders apart, you know, to make sure there is no metal shavings and stuff in there. Better get out there and FOD walk the flightline before you take off, never know. Oh and hand him a shotgun to scare off any birds that might be flying by. Could be a grease spot on the tarmac out there, thats a potential slipping hazzard. And what about the truck that picks him up after the dive, shit, is that thing approved to have people sit in the back while it is in motion, better check out those local ordaninces, seatbelts? Crack open city hall and start going through the shuffle. How bout that pilot? Get the logbook, he could be full of shit, and you better start verifying all those signatures, and call the flight school he received his licences from. Call the FAA and make sure the licences are lagit. Back to the hanger, better make sure your instructors are lagit, nonono put the cards away (after all, signatures don't mean shit, especially with reserve repack cards) so you better start handin over all those logbooks you have, so there can be verification of all those jumps, and all the qualifiying jumps for the AFF course. Remember people, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO STOP HERE, MY HANDS ARE JUST TIRED!!! Sometimes you just have to trust the professionals you work with (or hire).

I agree, real jumpers will participate in the 600 way hybrid. 300 up and 300 below

Business Calculus, or more commonly refered to as Survey of Calculus or Calculus for Business and Economics is the exact same course as Calculus I without the Trig. In place of the missing link there, there are oogles and oogles of more application problems that directly relate to the fields of business and economics. It is no easier than Calculus I.

I can't believe noone mentioned this: If you plan on climbing out on the landing cage, make sure you realize that it is in a different position when the helicopter is in the air. On the ground the weight of the helicopter is on the cage so it squats. So if you dirtdive on the ground, remember, when your at altitude and climb out the cage could be as much as a foot lower than you expect. Oh and remember, the spinning thing is on the top, and don't pull a Rocket Ramano on the tail.

That book is great shitter material. For years I kept it on the back of my toilet and gazed at it's pages in deepest thought. One day, after the chilli fest of 2001, big tanker, the book turned to ashes, when I flung open the door, the roses wilted and the ashes blew away to make their final skydive.

Besides elected board members, the uspa numbers are sequential based on who applies first. Licences are numbered only like the latter (with the exception of D-20000 George H.W. Bush). for example: my uspa number 123016 means that i am the 123,016 person to get their membership. And my licence D-20133 means that i am the 20,133rd person to get a D licence. By the time a person reaches an A licence number as big as your USPA number, we'll probably be long dead and buried.

The first thing I thought of and hasn't been addressed is, how do the medications make you feel? I don't jump, much less do a working jump if i take Tylonol Cold and Flu, because occasionally (every hour) it kicks in, and gets me dizzy for a few minutes. I can't imagine what that triple cocktail does. But maybe it doesn't do anything, I have no experience with it. I think, that if your taking any type of medication that, even for a few minutes, makes you woozy you should not be in the air, especially around students. Aooowww, almost sounds like NBC's 'The more you know' commercial.

App deadline is March 4th www.nbc.com Just wondering if any 'business' related skydivers are going tooth and nails too apply to meet the trumpster. I wanted too, but the next taping will be may/june, so there is no chance with kid #2 poppin out May 26th (like i had a chance anyway!!)

No, bumper side down so it fits over the top of your riser like a condem. If you don't curse and bitch and whine while installing them, your probably not doing it right They protect the slink just peachy that way.

I know saving your camera is important, so yes, don't drill around your electronic equipment. More importantly, grab yourself a surgeons mask (home depot, lowes) for about $.30, and keep your lungs from inhaling the carbon fiber, once the fiber is in your body, i don't think it comes back out. Use a vacume, keep a wet towel handy, and use clear nail polish to cover any exposed areas. Remember your drilled screw holes will rip out any dried nail polish if they are snug. Keep that in mind before you start fitting your cameras back in. You have to repolish after your mount bolts and screws are through. Have fun, don't rush it!! (i.e. don't do it friday night, you'll end up comprimising quality)

Tandem person shooting their own video?
jeremyneas replied to tandemking's topic in Photography and Video
Some people would argue that to just do a skydive invites all the risk you just mentioned. You sound like my wuffo neighbors educating me about skydiving. Good show!!! ... Bad Form -
They were all over the sky. Looked just like the ads in Parachutist. I touched one, it felt smooth and crisp. (Thats my firsthand account of them, anything repeated by the flyers would be third hand and oh so no no here)

Tandem person shooting their own video?
jeremyneas replied to tandemking's topic in Photography and Video
What a coooool idea. I've got 500 tandems and lookin to try something new for my students. R.Rob sent me a PM and now i'm psyched. When I can spare a few tid bits of change I'm ordering one. Hey, what Wide Angle are you (people currently using them) using? And what camcorder? Tooooo kooky Oh and for all those people listing the goodies of outside cameramen, I can think of a few from the Handycam just fantasizing about it. (yes, i'm a freefall photographer too, readjust those panties!) 1. Very unique angle of the exit. 2. Post parachute opening interview (probably the best thing about it! 3. Video proof, in case any passenger claims some sort of sexual harrassment. (this could work against some TM's LOL) 4. A cheap way of getting video for those economically challenged (i'm thinking $25-$30 with edit), i'm sure we can relate I'm sure there's more -
Your B/F was right to be pissed. Derek mentioned that Horizontal Seperation was of key importance and this is true. Imagine. A single freeflyer will cut through the air like a knife as compared to a 8 way RW belly. The 8 way will be more suseptible to drift in freefall (i.e. the upper winds). This 8 way could drift right over the single freeflyer and be dumping all around him...or into him. By letting the smaller groups, and then the groups less suseptable to freefall drift go next, you allow the aircraft flight to give that seperation properly. And drift in freefall gets less and less as you progress to the smaller and faster groups. (A 2 way RW will drift more than a 4 way freefly) Students and Tandems pull alot higher than normal, and have experienced instructors (hopefully) looking out. Birdmen, depending on the DZ will go first or last.

Ever got a bruise like this from leg strap?
jeremyneas replied to cvfd1399's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The only time my legs get the mysterous brusies is when I jump Eclipse Tandem Harnesses (Strong, Vector, Sigma don't...go figure!) -
I work at 2 DZ's currently. Skydive the Rockies is the most generous in all the DZ's i've ever worked at. I have gone to the DZ some days and the scheduled work didn't show and the DZO didn't charge me for any of the fun jumps I made that day. Little perks come here and there. Mile-Hi Skydiving Center (as you very well know) give staff a $2 discount per jump, and busy days can lead to "staff loads" (but usually we're all so damn beat at the end of those days we don't take advantage of it) I've never worked at a DZ where the staff didn't get any equipment from any manufacturer at over cost to the DZ. (In other words, I've never paid retail for any equipment since I started getting paid to jump) I won't get into beniees from different DZ's about Tax season, it's too complicated to chat about. California DZ's I worked at were the absolute most benificial to work for when it comes to this subject.

For Tandems: Assume the pull altitude is 5500 Your preference: Some people would set it at 5500 so you know when the TM is pulling. If he pulls before the warning, it could be an indication of a bad spot, after and the TM could be in trouble. Set at 6000 to give you an opportunity to pull back and get a full picture opening shot. Some like to go high and jam a little head down action, but I don't recommend that maneuver. You could set it at 4500 so that at pull time you can flip on your back and film the opening sequence and know when a good time to flip back over is. It's all up to you.
