  1. and get rickets. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  2. Some time ago I did some research for a friend and found some sources for what look like good candidates for skydiving boots. Here they are. http://www.metropolitanuniform.com/browse.cfm/4,659.html http://www.copshoes.com/c-tactical-boots.html http://www.flyingtigerssurplus.com/big-id-3-shbgid-5992.html http://www.copsplus.com/prodnum5706.php http://www.uniformsmallusa.com/buypage.cfm?itemID=BAT_2145&emailcampaign=FG&from=Home -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  3. Heck Ed, why should we think more about it when traveling by plane? I'm not sure why I should be more worried about fire in a plane than fire at home. My guess is that even skydivers face a greater risk of fire at home than in an airplane. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  4. Looks like spam in a can to me. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  5. I was on a 4-way team of big boys, and we couldn't all fit in a C-182, let alone get any altitude. We did a formation load with 2+video on one C-182 and the remaining 2 members in the other. Our team varied from 200-300 pounds each (sans gear) To keep from thread drift I will add that I have jumped out of 28 different types of aircraft. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  6. See this page http://www.cofc.edu/~wraggj/skydive_hist.html and look for "1979 Divepool" near the bottom of the page. There are some nice dives there. One of my favorites is sequence #7. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  7. Should be called "Bonehead Marvin the Martian" I tried one on and was very impressed with the fit and security. If I was buying a non-full-face helmet that would be it. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  8. A bit windy, and a 3-dimensional ballet with your friends. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  9. 61 DZs in three countries. The vast majority in the USA. I'm sure that isn't a big number. Jerry Bird probably has a million. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  10. All are good, respected rigs for anything you want to do. As of about a month ago the delivery time on Infinities was 25 weeks. Mirages are 4-6 weeks these days. I just bought a Mirage. I loved my last Infinity though. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  11. I have about 500 jumps without any sort of altitude sensor device. While the eye is good, there are serious problems if you go to a new dropzone. My eye was well tuned for home, but not elsewhere. My view is that the more tools you have the less likely you are to mess up. I prefer two audibles and one wrist mount. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  12. One thing that many non-riggers do (unfortunately) is cram a canopy in that is too big. This can lead to problems, such as grommet and flap damage. Since manufacturers differ their measurement methods, and even canopies from the same mfr and the same type and size of canopy can have pack volume vary by several percent, the only real way to find out if it will fit is to try it--but keep my warning about over-stuffing in mind. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  13. Is it a 7-cell? If so, then maybe, because they pack a little smaller than the same size of 9-cell. If not, then I'd say you should listen to their recommendation. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  14. I hope you don't die. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  15. I just google N9135 and that aircraft seems to be alive and kicking, in Snohomish, WA. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  16. tacking sounds like a hassle, but the magnets are an interesting notion. Maybe just one in the top center of the slider. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  17. The Skyhook is like an AAD or a seatbelt, you don't need it until you NEED it. Then it is very good. Lots of people lived through malfunctions and car crashes before them. More live after. It only does something important if things have gone very bad, due to yours or someone elses bad juju. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  18. They are secret. We have to kill you if someone tells you before you are supposed to know. You will know when the time is right. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  19. That is the second time in a week I have heard from people who reported abuse to HH and got no response and no apparent action...? -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  20. "the tabs have never come out" doesn't mean that they can't come out. Really, you should tack them. An ounce of prevention.... -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  21. Bummer, and I have nothing to help you out, but I hope this will serve as a warning to others, and help them get good advice on how to buy things on line, at DZ.com and elsewhere. There have been many threads where good advice is dispensed. I hope you find him, and your money. Have you reported it as fraud to dz.com, and the police...? -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  22. Tack them. No reason not to, and a very good reason to. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  23. What have they done to the harness? In a couple of places in the links above they allude to an alteration to the harness that relieves load on the lumbar area. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  24. I am a non-drinker (not for philosophical or religious reasons, but just because it tastes shitty) and I have no problem providing other beverages when the situation calls for it. Although I have bought beer once or twice. I think you should provide whatever beverage YOU want to, and expect to be given some crap for it, but it will be good natured crap. Any non-good-natured crap you get will be from people who don't count anyway. On a related note -- I have been paying for "free beer" at boogies for 30+ years, and don't recall I have ever gotten a rebate or discount on boogie registration fees, although I have asked. Mostly I just ask to get the reaction, not really thinking I'll ever get a discount. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  25. Everywhere I have jumped enough to know the answer to the question if it was a student was "NO." The DZ assumed the risk of such losses. If a potential student came to me to ask about a DZ and I knew the DZ had the policy of making it the student's responsibility, I would send them to a different DZ. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
