Having just lowered a box into mother earth a few days ago with one of my father's beloved Golden Retrievers, I know exactly what it's like when people love animals as much as people. A number of years ago our first Golden died. She got into some ethelene glycol (automotive antifreeze). That stuff tastes sweet to dogs, but is pure poison. My father eventually had to have her put to sleep. That was the first time I EVER saw him cry, and 1 of only 4 times total that I know of. 2 Goldens since then (1 of age, one of cancer(most recent)), and my grandfathers graveside funeral service. Back in 97 I quit. I lasted almost a year. I figured one wouldn't hurt. It was a cigar. It said "It's a boy" on the wrapper. I'd be a prick to turn it down. No big deal, right? WRONG! Within 2 weeks I was over 2 packs a day, and was seriously addicted again. It took from then to now to build up the willpower to do it again. A couple of months ago a very good friend of mine became a first time daddy. He's so proud of his little girl. He's still pissed at me though, as I wouldn't even take the cigar he offered. A couple of years ago I had a recurring dream theme. I say theme because each dream was different, but only just slightly. Some days you just figure out that your subconsious is trying to tell you something.... I would jump, freefall for a bit, throw my plot chute, and land my canopy. Same theme, different endings. It started out normal, but each night I would awaken from that dream, each time having had a shorter canopy ride. One of the last times I had the dream I tossed my pilot chute, and surfed the runway. In my dream I turned around to see the furrows that my feet left in the sod, and in my dream I remember thinking "I better start pulling higher, or I'm not gonna make it one of these times." In real list, amazingly enough, I had been smoking it down a bit low. Quite a few recent jumps were under 2 grand when I tossed, a few under 1700, and a couple a ways under that. I started pulling higher. 2500 - 2800. Wouldn't you know it, the dreams stopped.

If we go a month without killing each other I think a vacation is in order. Oh, yea, she's coming with to the WFFC!

A few years ago I would have thought it not possible. Now, just over a year later, 2 inches in the waist and 25 pounds bigger, I am still smoke free. Man, I gotta tell you, it feels good to toot my own horn about this, and I really feel good. I haven't felt this good since High School, 15 to 20 years ago. 1.5 to sometimes up to 3 packs a day, depending on if I was at home or out on the road in a semi, to cold turkey. It can be done, and without killing anyone, or having them want to kill you. OK, Who's next?
