So much for the Kings. I'm putting money down on the B'Hawks. By the way, is anyone running a pool on this year's playoffs?

oh ok..thanks for clarifying. OP you are ok to go ahead and proceed with your plan to get that 188....license D has over ruled.

what's wrong with packing a huge parachute? you gotta learn how to pack sometime, somewhere. So you consider a novice an A license? So by your own logic anyone with an A license is a novice? If you have jumper 1, with an A license jump every weekend for a year versus jumper 2, with an A license jump only 2x a month you would consider both jumper 1 and jumper 2 novices? I think your logic is subjective. Yes max weight 188...exit weight right? how much you weigh big guy? have you ever stepped on a scale with all your gear on to determine your exit weight? You're hesitant but i guarantee you if you have $2000 you'll still buy that nice shiney 188. Overall, i think you need to step back, take a canopy course, make sure you can fly that 240 to it's limit. Have you landed that 240 with no winds? x-winds? downwind? steered with rears or with one rear and one front riser? That jump from a 240 to that 188 (and even from a different main) is significant.

How do I make the most out of my first jump?
GooniesKid replied to WintersKnight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
First of all, 'grats for making your first jump. You'll have many firsts but for now you need to buy your instructor a beer. Too many people skimp out on the beer thing these days and we need to reinforce the first rule. Secondly, why did you book a 2nd tandem? Just curious, why don't you use that money to do your first AFF jump? Do you have large sums of money you like to burn? If so can i have it? If you know it's going to be a busy summer start now, early in the spring season, before it gets really busy. Weather is getting warmer which means more people will dabble in this sport which means more people will most likely be renting gear. So if you know you're going to like it then start now. It's ok to feel relaxed but don't get too comfortable. You've just done a tandem (which by itself is an accomplishment) but wearing your own rig, being responsible for yourself, being self reliant, flying your own parachute is nothing to get relaxed about. As one member posted to this topic earlier, there is a real danger in this sport that shouldn't be taken lightly or "relaxedly" (if that's a word but you know what you mean). -
How do I make the most out of my first jump?
GooniesKid replied to WintersKnight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
First, you need to relax and not over think this. You're going tandem not high altitude solo military style. All you have to do is lean back, relax, let your instructor handle the flying. You're there for the ride so you'll enjoy it. Secondly, are you afraid? Well you should be. You're doing an unnatural activity a human body was not designed to do, you're leaving your comfort zone, etc. But the good news is that your fear can be controlled by just relaxing and enjoying the moment. lastly, are you sure you are prepared to join AFP program if you like it? i don't care how many people say "oh, you can save money here", "you can buy a cheap rig there", are you really prepared to spend copious amount of money and time (in that particular order too)? are you prepared to tell your once friends "see ya, i'm going skydiving, you wouldn't understand"? are you prepared to sacrifice relationships, jobs, etc? are you prepared to go out with your whuffo friends and tell them about an awesome skydive you did but they don't care cuz they are wuffos? are you prepared to spend 99% of your time on the ground and 1% in actual freefall? But most importantly are you prepared to embark on a journey of self discovery, meet new and interesting people, and join a truely special and unique community? only you can answer these. be true to yourself and answers ad you will find fulfillment. -

Burbon. ..and who's fault is that?

Sounds like you've downsized 4 times in 60 jumps? That's 15 jumps per canopy? Sometimes, putting it into perspective sheds new light. Maybe he's a natural at this

Don't worry about the King's lost last night...they only gave the Sharks a sense of how it feels to win. Kings will move on to the 2nd round for sure.
