  1. The thread continues; Since March, I have made multiple visits to SDC (Chicago) AND have lost 15 pounds. Last weekend I was chatting with a couple of their S&TA's who gave me the green light. That weight loss has been very healthy and maintainable. While I do have a plan to drop a total of 10 more, this year, IM GETTING MY FEET IN THE AIR this upcomming weekend. After 20 years of holding my USPA original license, inactive, I wonder if you can tell IM EXCITED !! My attending Safety Day and Refresher course pays off. My anvil friends, and all, I thank you for the encouragement to keep trying. Set goals and achieve. Old school BLUE SKYS. Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  2. Agrees with matty50; Skydive LasVegas is actually in Boulder Nevada and it's function is tandem only. I wasnt aware that Mesquite had a DZ but after quick research, and actually living in Las Vegas for 8 years (years ago), I would also recommend Mesquite over Jean, another fine DZ. Especially over Boulder, NV. Mesquite is a fully developed city and Jean is still a fledgling town. Finally, in that part of the US, I would recommend you check out Perris and/ or Elsinore California for their planes, prices and people. Both are awesome sites and jump all week long. I dont know that of Mesquite or Jean for certain. Hope it helps. -hubs- Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  3. see... you figured it out soon enough ;). now to work enough to have jumping money. nvm, sell everything. 'you have a sarcasm sign?' But really, be safe and have fun. see you on the dz some day. Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  4. Im still trying to figure out; WHY the Texas Tunnel needed a new speculation thread? AND WHY hasn't this thread been moved? Its the exact same subject. Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  5. Careful, 'wingload' IS a mathematical calculation, in the SIM, that we all jump by. Section 4C. I hope you mean; 'downsizing' (a canopy) needs to be 'discussed' with someone of experience, and their ability to see you in the flesh. I would believe Chaw is working on handling characteristics on demo gear, more than wingload. Chaw, help me out, clarify your post. Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  6. Welcome to skydiving and the forums. Being safe is listening to instructors and asking questions. When ever you achieve a first make sure to let someone know. That piece of advice you will figure out soon enough. :) Finally: Live long and jump often; Blue skys ! Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  7. bump. making IBA's links clickable. good luck to all !! How to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEw-axwUpUE Register: http://www.tunnelflight.com/pages/competition/competitionTour.php Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  8. I completely agree with this view; -especially since this data is compiled every year and not used in that fashion. (random years used) -especially since the data is 'rate against population' not rate against safe occurrences. Buford Montana, USA is for sale, the entire town. With a population of ONE. You can make any statistics you want. http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Articles/2012/04/04/An-Entire-Wyoming-Town-for-Sale-for-100k.aspx#page1 Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  9. welcome to the dz forums. knowledge, skill and attitude. please don't be in a hurry, you will miss the best part... friendships. parachuting, static line, is not skydiving. it is a valuable skill but not the thrill of tandem... aff... superman! yes, the economy is tough, evaluate what you really want. will tunnel time be more cost effective and like free fall? Everyone deserves to be superman, safely! Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  10. welcome to the forums and the most adrenaline rushed sport above earth. sorry, can't help on okc, those opinions will be here soon. after 12hours anyone's welcome is a great start. blue skys. Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  11. With respect to this thread: Isn't equilibrium defined as: the condition of a system in which all competing influences are balanced, in a wide variety of contexts. (balance) Aren't we all taking about Terminal velocity? : A free-falling object achieves its terminal velocity when the downward force of gravity (FG) equals the upward force of drag (Fd). This causes the net force on the object to be zero, resulting in an acceleration of zero. I would agree Anvil's, bantam weights and free fliers all reach a different terminal velocity. Is this factor the ultimate part of this discussion, not a flat timed fall rate? Thx -hubs- Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  12. What is your source ? Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  13. This situation makes total sense to me. A recognized DZO, JM, Pilots and D's would sign/ verify a lot of jumpers. BUT a C ? Really. Hundreds? Tell your friend with the 'lost book' the start a new book. Be responsible, record forgery IS A CRIME, and deadly dangerous in out sport. You are not covered by the DZ's waivers! per OUR SIM Part 2: WITNESSED the jump. Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  14. In the USA: By statute in every state - signature stamps are valid. You can read more about this concept in a legal encyclopedia such as 80 Corpus Juris Secundum, Signatures, sections 2 through 7. Even the IRS accepts a signature stamp on a 1040 tax return. Although someone could (and they do) make a signature stamp to sign a particular document - there are civil and criminal liabilties for doing such - forgery. ------------ My question to you would be; Isnt it easier to use their pen to sign, even initial, a jump log than pull out a stamp pad? ------------ Im NOT an attorney but know first hand that a facsimile and stamped signature is legal valid. Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  15. You guys are awesome. Thanks BIGUN, Brick and Pops. I was hoping there were bigger jumpers that could relate and offer advice, ok pops for encouragement not size, after the past two weeks I was starting to feel confused and alone. There IS hope !! I now realize that my safest route, to return to the air, would be my own gear. I wouldn't object to (even) packing a 300 just to get the benefit of easier/ softer landings. I know that price difference isnt in a smaller main. Especially if that safety factor got my face in the air for ... well... 55 seconds. I dont have plans to try crw at this size and my laptop backpack, through airports weighs 45 pounds. (shhhh.. ) Big boys get big gear, Im there and Im happy with that. Hybrid jumps, huh, who would have known :). I do plan on visiting SDC and hope to bump into Brenster, (IF you see this before 4/20, Yell at me). I have other friends I will still want to visit with and watch, for now. Who knows, SDC might see me as healthy and responsible enough to allow a shot at this on their 260's. Their call, no problem. Finally yes I could dump 3-4 lbs, but my doctor who is a small framed man, doesn't even have an issue with my weight. To lose 25 lbs, as I was told I needed by a trainer, is quite more than just a cleanse, its a major event. Everyone over 50 will raise a hand to 'I put on one pound a year since graduation and I worked for that to not be 2 per year!' Amen? Again THANKS. -robert- Thank you Chaw, time-ing, you posted just before me. Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  16. I stand corrected. Good Luck with that lottery thing. Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  17. Careful. Although the Austin TX address is used in much of their mailings, as an address, they are HQ'd in Nassau, Bahamas. http://sv-int.com/contact/ This creates additional legal issues between investors and SkyVenture. From a 'seriously researching' and 'unsigned non-disclosure statement' potential investment group. I'm only providing, already, public information :). Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  18. Thank You, SkyMama. -looking- Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  19. Welcome to forums and the sport of skydiving. Congrats on the completion of your first solo jump. Sweet, huh? The advice on 'lazy legs' is not unusual since they can be hard to 'locate' when there is so much going on. In time you will figure it out. (Analogy): Many swim and few 'swim well' when they practice. My daughters both 'found their legs' in a tunnel. It cost me less for more air time. Its an idea. Again, welcome, have fun and be safe !! Robert Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
  20. if you were sent to the corner grocery, with a dollar, and told to come back with milk, bread and the change... I might be an old fart. Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!

  22. Hello all, Trying to write a quick impromptu intro is tough. ok.. Im a 27 year member of USPA, old school 4 digit A license, oh thats on the left. So I stopped jumping and sold my gear when I had a family. It seemed like the responsible thing to do. Someone out there was jumping a burgundy and navy Racer rig, I got to keep the log book cover. Now that my kids are 'age of majority' I'm trying to break back into my all time favorite sport. 'Back then' I also was an instructor at Las Vegas Fly Away. Last month, I took two of my three kids to Vegas Indoor Skydiving (same place new owners) and Ive got the bug again. I just passed Re-cert/ refresher class, Thank you SDC (Chicago). Well they, rightfully so, are concerned I might be to big for their gear. I calculate a wingload of 1.135 on a 260 sq ft (265lb plus 30lb gear) but also understand, not through SDC, I may be at or past their harness TSO. End of the sad story, just ask in the thread, if I didnt explain it correctly. SO, Hello, Aloha, Hi Mates. Im interested in chatting with a few larger members for insights on how I should safely and legally get back in the air. I do feel Im at a healthy weight and might be able to work off 10 pounds in the next year, a pound a month?, but there isnt a lot of fat on this frame. (TMI?) I Hope most/ all of you participate in Safety Day, I tried but felt denied. Old School, Blue Skies !! Thanks Hubs Anyone can swim, only a few swim well. Anyone can skydive, everyone can skydive well. Practice!
