That's an incredibly bad idea! If you forget to remove them before you jump that could lead to a very bad day. surely that would suggest you don't do a basic rig inspection before you use your rig for the first time that day? isn't that an even worse idea? And you would never make a mistake would you? It is much easier to miss a zip tie than your chest strap. Take this advice or don't, but people have dies from simpler fuck-ups. never say never. I always check my rig in the same way, same order, every time. I personally would not miss a large, yellow, uncut, cable-tie on my rig (which is all black), but I get your point.

my 4th "console" jump after the AFF course. I got into a flat spin straight after exit (14k), and couldn't get out of it. I was arching like mad, trying to adjust my legs, arms, anything, but nothing worked. After what seemed like ages, with the spin getting so fast I could feel my toes start to tingle, I decided to flip onto my back to go unstable (anything to change my current predicament), then flipped back onto my belly, and the spin had stopped. I checked my alti, I was at 5k. Funny thing was that at no point did I get scared. before I flipped over, I do remember thinking "ok, enough of this rubbish, you need to fix this now or else its going to get horrible". After discussing with my instructor, and others, no one could give me a definitive answer about why it happened, other than to say my body position must have been bad. I was a little nervous on the ride up for my next jump.

do a search, there are loads of threads on it. Some say carry it on, some say pack it in a secure bag. make sure to take the TSO letter http://www.uspa.org/USPAMembers/Membership/Travel/tabid/126/Default.aspx and the cypres letter http://www.cypres.cc/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=89&func=fileinfo&id=28&lang=en arrive early to check in as you may get called by security when the rig goes through x-ray.

thats the most important bit, well done on your first, I hope you got the beers in.

I found tube exits good fun, especially when you hold the tube for 15 seconds or so. The tighter you tuck in the faster it spins. its gets pretty damn dizzy.

Shoukd I be weary of buying gear online here?
richardw38 replied to Lindenwood's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
yes, with your wonderful monopoly money that is the USD, you cater for us very well thanks. -
Thankfully, and with a certain degree of luck, I made it through my teens/20's doing other "extreme" sports to sufficiently decent level to realize that you can't act like a pro until you aren't trying to act like a pro. ps thanks for the great post earlier. I'm not really interested in swooping, but they are great tips for canopy flight.

Wow, I just did a search for Sangi, read a load of posts and watched a couple of videos. Thats pretty damn sobering. I cant imagine what his emotions must be. Getting hurt in this sport, because of an accident is one thing, but ending up a paraplegic because of a silly decision you made must be pretty hard to deal with. His crash video is pretty harsh, 10 seconds from decision to cripple. F*%K!

richardw38 replied to Lindenwood's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
same as above, I have bought stuff off people here, its all been very easy and quick even tho I am in in aussie land. I wouldnt buy anything off people with no post history, or with a blank profile. -
the problem here is "online convo" learn how to "talk" (Speak in order to give information or express ideas or feelings; converse or communicate by spoken words) to people, maybe they will jump with you then, and you will have lots of fun.

If you really want to run away from winter then you should look at South America. I personally would go for Spain now. Specifically Empuriabrava. Its an Awesome DZ, with a great club house on site, and the tunnel was run for the first time a few days ago (so I'm told by friend who's there). plus you get to land on the beach when you've had enough. 100K jumps a year make it a great scene with jumpers from all over Europe. Its location gives you easy access to all of Europe and to a lesser extent the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. I live in Australia now. Its bloody expensive, for everything. I cant think of anything that is cheaper here than in the UK/US. In fact I buy everything I can from the US and ship it over. My DZ (nagambie) is one of the cheaper DZ's and its still $37 for a 10 jump ticket (Empuria was 24Euro on a 25 jump ticket) If you are not reliant on the local economy then I'd think about it. The EU economy is in some trouble, how much trouble is currently up for debate, but....... Oh and not much BASE in Australia, very few decent cliffs.

I'd like to get started with Linux, anyone know about this?
richardw38 replied to SpeedRacer's topic in The Bonfire
download and install a virtualisation platform like vmware player. then you can create many virtual machines, and try out different Linux edititions, or any other OS you choose. -
