  1. And that is how I know... when I try to get through on the telephone to you, there will be nobody home.
  2. And I've got second sight.
  3. I've got 238 channels of shit on the TV to choose from.
  4. I got elastic bands keeping my shoes on.
  5. Got a bag with a toothbrush and a comb in . . . (Oh, and I really do have a little black book with my poems in.
  6. Yeah, I guess you're right about that. It's really annoying me that the media is doing that. That type of "reporting" is wrongly perpetuating the idea that any type of relationship other than the "one man, one woman" thing is somehow harmful to the children they have.
  7. That just means that the media is making it about polygamy. It doesn't mean that it actually is about polygamy. There is confusion in this case about which children belong to which parents, but that still has nothing to do with polygamy. There are plenty of polygamous families who have no confusion about how they are related to each other, and who are not forcing their underage daughters to "marry" older men. I think that this case is simply about potential child abuse, and nothing more. The media just likes to throw the "polygamist" slant in there to increase the drama of the story.
  8. The atheistic point of view is that there is no god; it has nothing to do with explaining why anything happens. Yes, that is true. But it in no way proves that some sort of god exists.
  9. Hmm... You start with this: And now you're at this: So every time someone doesn't die, it's by some miracle of god. But every time someone dies (no matter how tragic or what age they are), it's because it was just their day to die? OK, that makes no sense.
  10. There's a porno script right there people! A cute girl bringing me some of the ol' In-N-Out?
  11. Oh yeah, that must have been it. And I've been craving an In-N-Out burger ever since I read this thread. But I'm too lazy to go get one. I wish a cute girl would go pick one up and bring it to me.

    FLDS Raid

It sounds like at least some of them are cooperating with the DNA testing. And it also sounds like they are admitting that underage girls in the sect have sex with adult men (though claiming to not have known that it was illegal): http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080421/ap_on_re_us/polygamist_retreat;_ylt=AiHc1RDInm49kqlxplHJuMCs0NUE
  13. I often pick up food and bring it home to eat, because I'd rather sit in my awesome backyard to eat than in some generic restaurant in a strip mall. And there are plenty of restaurants close to my house, so the food doesn't get cold. I have no problem with sitting down alone to eat in a restaurant, but I usually have no reason to. (But I'm probably too old now to be considered a "cute girl" anyway.) And this thread is giving me deja vu.... I'm sure we've had a similar thread before(????), but I couldn't find it when I searched.
  14. If you have an aloe vera plant, you can break one of the leaves open and rub the juice on your bites. I've used it for ant bites before, and it works pretty good, so it would probably work for mosquito bites too.
  15. I have not heard of any charges being brought against them for polygamy. And most of what I've read has said that their marriages were "spiritual marriages" rather than legal ones, so I don't think that they've broken any laws by "spiritually marrying" more than one person. I don't think that polygamy really has anything to do with this case. I'm not sure why the headlines keep saying "The Polygamists" rather than "The FLDS".... Well, except that it probably adds more drama to the news.
  16. Oh, THAT can of worms. Well, I'll leave that alone too.
  17. Why don't they charge a higher fee that would cover all of that stuff? And in my case, there was really no reason for us to go to court except that it was required. We could have just as easily signed the papers in front of a notary public.
  18. OK. That sounds fair enough. Though I'm sure there are a lot of other questions that would arise if we were to consider doing away with legal marriages. But I'll leave that can of worms alone now.
  19. I agree with this, but one question I have is: If marriage was no longer recognized by the law, how would that affect immigration laws? If I was in a relationship with a non-U.S. citizen, and I wanted my partner to be able to permanently live with me in the U.S., would I still be able to sponsor him to become a U.S. citizen?
  20. How does a divorce cost the government that much? When I got divorced, we paid the fee (I think it was around $400???). We spent about 5-10 minutes in front of the judge, and there was a little bit of paperwork involved. I can't see how this would have cost any more than what we paid for. And if others have more difficult divorces, aren't they the ones paying for any additional fees involved? (I have no idea how that works. My own divorce is about the only knowledge I have of the system.)
  21. That is correct regarding my beliefs, but of course I can't answer for all atheists. Though if anyone told me that they know how it all began, I probably wouldn't believe them. So yeah, that description probably works for most atheists.
  22. Yep, and it works for the god argument too. What created god? Personally, I don't believe in god. And I have no idea if the big bang theory is correct or not, but that has nothing to do with my not believing in god. I just accept that we don't know, and probably never will know, the answer to where everything came from. Because, like you said, it's a question with an infinite answer. (But what came before that? And what came before that? etc., etc.)
  23. OK, send me some, bitch! How's that for sweet talk? And I just remembered to do something that I've been meaning to do for a long time... I sent an email to the County Line, begging them to open a location in SoCal. They're not my favorite, but they're pretty damn good. And since they've got the big corporate thing going on, I think they're the most likely to actually open a location out here. I used to have them ship me BBQ sometimes, but I just looked at their catalog, and it looks like the prices have gone up quite a bit. So I don't know if I want it that bad.
  24. OK, now I have to stop reading this thread, because you're talking about TX BBQ, and I will start to cry. I tried to make myself sick of it last time I was there, but that was a few months ago, so now I'm craving it again.
