  1. I think that might have been what i was trying to get at... Not sure if this is the problem but i have noticed that if you have a lot of jumps say.... 1000 or so and walk on to a new DZ, after your inital inspection of the log book or what ever is required... there is really nothing else..... Maybe large DZs that get a lot of guests could have some pre-brefing or something more.... required before you get to jump. I hate to compare it to air lines but every time you get on the airplane they remind you about the exits and where the life vests are.... I really only pay attention to those two parts as each airplane is different and hides them in different locations... (is my seat my floatation device or is it under it... or between the seats.... just an example) Like i said i dont know if it would help but maybe just an idea Cheers Jon W
  2. done =D i feel all worm and fuzzy inside now Cheers Jon W
  3. I found a broken link or forgoten part... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/dropzone/finder.cgi?search=addr&lat=35.96022296929667&lng=-84.00146484375&rad=100 the Skydive Smoky Mountains is no longer at that location, or so i was told when i stoped in to visit Skydive East Tennessee. They said it moved like several years ago.... its new address is around Fish Hatchery Road, Morristown, TN 37813 or at least their facebook site says..... Cheers Jon W
  4. I found a broken link and forgoten part of this very own site! http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/dropzone/finder.cgi?search=addr&lat=35.96022296929667&lng=-84.00146484375&rad=100 the Skydive Smoky Mountains is no longer at that location, or so i was told when i stoped in to visit Skydive East Tennessee. 5. is it me or does Perris CA have a really high number of those? I understand that they jump year round and have more people but still, 4 out of 24 deaths... and there are 2 million skydives a year.... How many skydives at Perris? I wonder what the percentage of skydives at Perris CA to the ratio 4:24.... Any statisticians here? this just seems really high. Cheers Jon W
  6. that's good news for me ^.^ 6'2" 155lbs I cant wait for jump 200! Is there anything that you wing suit jumpers wish you worked more on before you got into a wing suit? edit: bad spelling~ Cheers Jon W
  7. that was a spectre 170 at a 1.05 ratio I did some tight turns as i was still filling out all my boxes for canopy flight on my A card =P My next jump ill try and fly strait and level as much as posiable and get the glide ratio. Seems like a very cool project. I uploaded my wave points, you can simply plug them into google earth. I am sure with excel it wouldnt hard to find the glide slope.... (ps everything is in meters) https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B6s0GEYskZ-TNWMzNTg5ODktMzRkNy00NTkwLTk4OWYtNzlhNTVlNDAyOTYx Cheers Jon W
  8. here is one of my jumps at couch freaks, i have made some modifications to the settings since this jump to make it more accurate.... Attached Pic 1 My entire jump Pic 2 Close up of just the canopy flight Cheers Jon W
  9. Sounds like somebody has been feeding you a line of shit. You keep the thing until you're thoroughly skilled in flying the thing. 100-200 jumps ain't a-gonna do it unless you aggressively work on canopy skills...every jump. Almost everyone i talked to did several progressive downsizes from their student rig as i have 210 to 185 to my now 170 just a few sites, but i got most of my information from my rigger, now i will stay with my rig for long time because i love it, and have no intention of swooping anytime soon.... http://www.bigairsportz.com/pdf/bas-sizingchart.pdf http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk/cms/index.php?/topic/18056-canopy-progression/ Cheers Jon W
  10. No the slider and reserve was packed afaik just normal as seen on these videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMfmTpsD7dg compairing with this one, i mean he was spinning and not level flight so yeah it would take a bit longer when he got line twists in the reserve.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gW7KEDRKhqY I am just saying it is faster than other types of RSLs and the desclaimer is you should never relay on your RSL to pull your reserve..... Cheers Jon W
  11. Cool, I'll free-fall down to a hundred feet and pull my reserve. The skyhook will save me.
  12. Can i get one on order? i cant seem to find any... I am an engineer my self.... Finding a female engineer is hard, let alone a female engineer that does out door stuff..... Anyway i agree nothing is more sexeh than brains... (inner zombie comes out) Cheers Jon W
  13. I used my cell phone droid app "My Tracks" it takes ground speed, average speed, average speed moving, your altitude, your change in altitude. It also plots it on a map. You can export the file to google earth and check out your skydive from google earth... Just make sure you turn up your refresh rate on it... i did it to 1/second... =) I didnt bring my cable for my phone today but i can upload it later. http://tech.chandrahasa.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/screenshot_4.png Cheers Jon W
  14. Spectre in a Vector 3 container with skyhook is the best =P Opens strait and smoothly every time! if you want something that will open strait with no line twists and never breaks your back, Spectre is the one for you!! Vector 3 Container with sky hook~ opens your reserve in less than 100' there are plenty of vidos out there on this... Edit: I got a used spectre 170 with about 100 jumps on it. I would recomend something like 100-400 jumps. If its new it will be a pain in the ass to pack. Mine still is like putting a wet cat in a sandwich bag. But thats just with my research. What ever you can find used in the size you need is the answer really... As you will only maybe keep it for 100 to 200 jumps. Cheers Jon W

what do you mean Santa Claus isn't real? Cheers Jon W
  16. thanks for brining this up, i have a "new ish" canopy and have the same problem getting it into the bag. I am going to try qsycho packing next time i'm at a DZ Cheers Jon W
  17. From one new guy to the next, welcome! lucky.... its much nicer there than here in Omaha Cheers Jon W
  18. still sun tracking panels would be much more affective. This if you only set a panel down flat.... Solar cells generate a lot more power if pointed strait at the sun.... But yes an interesting way to explain how trees do photosynthesis. Cheers Jon W
  19. err i found this file http://www.metatag.de/webs/dfv/downloads/Precision_PsychoPack.pdf so even PD uses it... Cheers Jon W
  20. It has made me ask more questions and learned from others mistakes. My work just blocked it so i am going to have to mass download and bring them in now... Anyway +1 for SDR Cheers Jon W
  21. I just got a used Spectre 170 canopy with about 100 jumps on it... still very crispy and slick as a greased pig. I can do all normal "trash" packing. (my riger calls the reserve pack job a pro pack, and the main as a trash pack) But when i get to the z-folds and putting it into the bag..... well it explodes! It's probably me, but i was wondering if i could do a psycho packing. A few of the guys around my jump site say that only people that can't learn to control the material do psycho packing.... And that it is also not as good because you roll your lines pushing them the wrong way.... Any advice on psycho packing for a newb? Should i just struggle with my slick canopy or try psycho packing? I really don't worry about line twists on my spectre because it opens so strait and takes so long, the only problem i am really concerned about is a line over. Any other problems with psycho packing? Cheers Jon W
  22. im on jump 18 and yes i still have some hard landings. I found if i stare at the ground i will all ways either flare too high and PLF or flare too low and slide in on my ass.... BUT if i look out at the horizon and the surrounding buildings to get a sense of hight i always stand it up.... not sure if it correct. I am always looking for more advice on landings! Cheers Jon W
  23. you should stay to the first of the next month then too so at least you get to keep insurance as well for the remaining of that month. Cheers Jon W
  24. Wow that looks like a lot of metal. I broke my foot from my motorcycle got 2 plates and about 8 screws... nothing like that. Anyway i still ride, i am sure you can get back on the horse as they say. you going to set off metal detectors at airports? Cheers Jon W
  25. My boss has one, and well he has had it for at least 2 years now.... Dives it to work every day and takes it out hunting and stuff..... Its yellow and white.... very easy to see. I guess no one will run into him Cheers Jon W
