As I have contemplated the end of this forum it seems like facing the prospect of losing a large partly dysfunctional family all in one fell swoop. Of course it has been slowly dying anyway but some of the participants that are still here are outstanding in many so ways. At this time however I would like to thank the mods for their decision to let pretty much anything go in the dying days. The resultant decline in the quality of the discourse by allowing people of such low ability to think rationally is making it a lot easier for me to prepare myself for the loss. Seriously, it was the right thing to do for other reasons as well. I certainly will miss the chance to interact with some great people in a way that I will probably never be able to replace but at least I will also never have to deal with the crazy nonsense that comes across my screen.

Not impossible, but will take time. Start with requiring training and licenses to own and carry firearms. Enshrine laws around safe storage and enforce them. Increase penalties for those whose guns are used in crimes. That alone would have a significant positive impact.

For what it's worth... Unless it is specifically documented otherwise, my educated guess is that the front reserves belonged to Emrich, not Cossey. Here's why - Cossey is contacted and offers his gear. So he calls Emrich and tells him to get it. But Emrich is then contacted and told that they have the back ones, he just needs to send the fronts. He likely asks 'where did you get those', and if he's told 'some pilot the flight service guy knows', then he knows that those are bailout rigs and the front reserves can't be used anyways. So why would he give his friend's, his rigger's, personal reserve when he's got a rack full of student gear? That student gear is nobody's personal gear that will be missed, he's got more of it and it is easily replaced. That would also explain the dummy reserve. It's for some dirtbag hijacker, it's the cheapest thing he's got, and it can't be used with the bailout rig anyways. Cossey wouldn't own that, why would he? In practice, what you are talking about (urban growth boundaries) are enforced by: 1) Not issuing building permits for certain types of construction outside the boundary. Thus you'd be able to get a permit for a Christmas tree farm or a site for farmer's markets, but not for an apartment building or a factory. 2) Only funding services (sewer, water, power, new roads, fire protection etc) inside the boundary. Outside such services are available but cost $$$.

My (late) sister-in-law lived on the upper west side of Manhattan. I think you could buy just about anything imaginable within a 10 block walk from her apartment, plus find any current movie, religious denomination, several theaters, bars, etc. We aren't too bad where I live in Chicago, especially where it comes to bars.
