3 pointsNot an American - just collateral damage as part of the rest of the world as a consequence of poorly educated, racist and misogynistic people. I’ve asked time and again here for any policies of Trump and it’s been crickets.
-
2 pointsThis is basically expected - with other countries electing rightwing populists like Geert Wilders, Milei, Duterte, Orban, etc. Labour winning here in the UK is a fluke - the UK isn't going left, it's just the right was divided between two parties. I am under no illusions that this rightwing march will continue, globally. So why is this happening? Basically, most people are unhappy for a mix of reasons, and they feel that there's something wrong with the system, but can't quite pinpoint what it is. They also somehow feel that it was better in the past - and in some ways they would be right! So they vote for the craziest outsider who tries to simplify the problem (e.g. immigration, wokeism, drugs). If that doesn't work, they throw them out and vote for the next person promising a solution. Duterte was elected in 2016, and he blamed all his country's problems on drugs. It's a simple problem, he said. He promised to "solve the country's problems within 6 months" of getting elected. Upon election, he then embarked on a massacre of 30,000 people. This was back in 2016. No points for guessing whether this worked (it didn't). For western countries it's immigration. True, unemployment is pretty low. But those jobs don't pay well, and people are unhappy with those jobs. It feels right to blame immigrants for creaking infrastructure (too many people) and high house prices (too much demand, not enough supply). Not enough money for infrastructure and services (we're spending too much on immigrants' welfare!) On the surface this explanation sounds right and rightwing people don't look any further. Leftwing people mostly don't either - we just try to "disprove" the talking points like how immigrants help the economy, etc. But we don't offer an alternative explanation of the causes of the problems. But the rightwing people aren't lying about their unhappiness - jobs don't pay well. Infrastructure IS overwhelmed. House prices are WAY too high. But they've missed the actual root cause. In any case, I'm not going to discuss the actual root causes right now. But I'm going to make a prediction - 4 years from now, the rightwing people will be as unhappy as ever. They'll get some dopamine hits from "owning the libs", but they won't be happy, and their problems won't be solved with 4 more years of Trump. No matter what problems come in the next 4 years, Brent for example will blame the left for either causing it, or "allowing" it to happen. The right won't take responsibility for any problems that will happen, because despite being in control, they don't feel in control. And they don't feel in control because despite what they say, they don't really know the root cause of the problems. Only understanding will stop the fear.

2 pointsI have to say, it is fun, and it is going to be fun to watch! Liberal left leaning legacy media is going nuts!

2 pointsI didn’t compare her to Biden, I compared her to Trump. Secondly, the US is a democracy and as I said the election of Trump is a reflection on the character of Americans. The fact that the majority, either value a person of no moral character or would vote for him simply because the alternative is a black woman, reflects a society that I am glad that I am not a part of.

2 pointsThe USA is now officially the dumbest nation on the planet. Just had total malfunctions on both main and reserve. This is a disaster for the world.
-
2 pointsThe goal posts will always move. Trump made the claim… I’ve had enough of Trump, I hoped it would be over. Probably about time to swap out my news subscriptions for a pornhub subscription. If I’m going to spend 4 years watching people get screwed, may as well enjoy it

1 pointIt appears the deplorable, strong women and those called garbage voted as patriots. Congrats Donald J Trump!
-
1 pointStop bothering them with facts. They won, They won by lying. Why quit when you have a winning strategy?

1 pointUS crude oil production was higher under Biden's first 3 years than Trump's 3 highest years combined.

1 pointExactly, the clear, obvious and easily supported attack of pointing out that he’s a massive racist wasn’t followed through anywhere near effectively enough. Trump said the Democrats were racist more often than they said he was. The attacks against Trump are what-he-is-ism.

1 pointIf Trump removes support from Ukraine, why do you think Putin would then not take parts of other countries?
-
1 pointAgreed on your post except for this last sentence. I hope I'm wrong though.
-
1 pointAnd how does that hand Ukraine to Russia? The EU vs Russia is not even a contest. Population, GDP, and military capabilities of the EU/NATO dwarf those of Russia. Europe can step up and support the largest country in Europe (not named Russia) without our help. (personally I support US aid for Ukraine and I hope Biden expedites delivery of the multi billion dollar aid package and relaxes restrictions on the use of American weapons. Given who the President Elect is I don’t think there is a risk of escalation from Putin)

1 pointThe point is that we on the left didn't believe the cash for character carry trade would be successful amongst people who suffer the reality of racism on a daily basis. Too many Latino men, and black men for that matter, decided that voting for an avowed racist was an acceptable trade for a few more coins in the purse. We also didn't fully recognize that too many Latino men and white women would choose a slightly elevated feeling of superiority over the betterment of their fellows and sisters and daughters. Trumps team clearly saw our disconnect and used it to win. If nothing else, we now know with absolute clarity who and what we are as a people.

1 pointThe public doesn't care until it hurts them specifically. First they came for....I didn't care Second they came for....I didn't care Third they came for....I didn't care Then they came for me.....How could this possibly have happened

1 pointHis last policies added more debt than any other president ever. Why is it that Republicans are not concerned about debt when it comes to R policies, but scream bloody murder when it comes to D policies?
-
1 pointFunny, though, how it's just fine to call liberals child abusers, communists, and idiots. Those moving goalposts. Wendy P.

1 pointYou forgot about garbage, turns out folks don’t like to be called garbage. (Or deplorable)
-
1 pointIt’s not an act, he is those things. Anyway, the answer seems to be no, you haven’t listened to anything he has said during this whole campaign. He attacks everyone on the left all the time. He attacks viciously, condescendingly and constantly. The lesson from this election is the tactic that works is to wallow in the mud. The mistake the dems made is being too polite, so the odd insults stand out too much.

1 pointIn a post-truth world (yeah, I think we're heading there), what exactly matters? Wendy P.

1 pointAmerica is very unhappy with current conditions. trump will be unable to address those concerns except for perhaps immigration. The trade wars he starts from tariff impositions will lead to inflation. His further pandering to christians will also cost him support. Obviously America will survive trump. But like his other endeavours like casinos, steaks, colleges, etc. He will make a big mess out of everything and leave unpaid debts in his wake. We need to start counting how many laws, felony charges, he racks up in his second term.

1 pointTrump has followed the dictator play book to the letter. 1. Promise simple solutions to complex problems 2. Create a group to hate and blame for all problems 3. Use the threat of violence to discourage freedom of expression and manipulate voters The US has lost credibility in the eyes of the world, its elected a diaper wearing nut job who simulates oral sex on a microphone. I doubt it is the ‘end of the US’, but it’s definitely a significant marker on a downward spiral. Welcome to 3rd world levels of corruption where Trumps mates are above the law and get rewarded for it. I’ve said all along Trump would win, I’m going to put another stake in the ground and say that within 2 years he will either voluntarily step down or be forced out.

1 pointRight, the only acceptable Dem VP and candidate is one who isn’t actually a Dem. Thank you for that stunningly detailed and astute political analysis.
-
1 pointAn elegant solution to immigration that should get the support of the enlightened Left is as follows: 1) No wall. 2) Anyone found to be in the country illegally is given the option of immediate deportation or sex reassignment surgery. 3) Anyone previously deported who is found back in the country illegally gets sex reassignment AND subsequent deportation. Like minefields, whose purpose is dissuasion rather than injury or death, you only need to have a couple of well publicised cases to reduce the flow of illegals to a trickle. I should think only trans-phobic fascists would oppose such an approach. BSBD, Winsor

1 pointAnd it is that condescending attitude that fired up rural and working class voters resulting in Trump’s victory. CONGRATULATIONS!

1 pointMy hope is that the party that chose to follow a convicted criminal/liar/sexual predator as it leader and standard bearer gets thoroughly humiliated at every level. Probably won't come to pass though.

1 pointIndividual hurricanes are incredibly difficult to predict. Milton went from a Cat 5 to a Cat 3 in less than a day before making landfall - but it easily might not have done that. Do you want politicians to prep for disasters based on best case scenarios? Frankly, it’s incredibly small minded that you’d minimise the suffering of Floridians right now just to make a partisan political dig.
