3 pointsBrent may be at a loss for words. The Russian troll sites have been taken down so the usual sources of knowledge and facts is gone.
-
3 pointsOf course it is. It's intended to anger, not inform. 48GW total generation by now, which means 60 TWhr a year as of now. That represents 30% of our total power generation. And much of that solar funding actually goes to storage, so that we don't have blackouts when it gets hot. Currently we are in a heatwave, and nary a blackout in sight. And this was during a summer that had the hottest June and July on record - and August looks like it will be another hottest on record. We used to import about 20% of our power; we are now down to 10%. This year we had over 100 days where, for several hours, 100% of California's energy needs come from non-fossil-fuel sources - and that time is constantly growing. As of today, more than half our electrical energy comes from non-fossil-fuel sources. In other words - the subsidies worked.

2 pointsI guess he'll have it hanging over him until after the election. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/09/06/trump-sentencing-date-new-york-hush-money-case Sentencing date November 26. I sure hope he gets to see the inside of a jail cell.

2 pointsit is almost like most organizations are really a wheel with multiple spokes. Now removing one spoke, any spoke, doesn't collapse the wheel, but it does weaken it.
-
2 pointsThat makes her a valuable adviser; not the primary, but definitely an opposing opinion. Because the President should be paying attention to people representing a variety of viewpoints. The country is too big and diverse simply to impose a particular political viewpoint on it (that's what Project 2025 is all about, and we don't want to go down that path either). Wendy P.

2 pointsI was surprised how quickly the GA prosecutors acted. But then I learned: 1. May 2023: FBI investigated kid over threats to shoot up school. 2. Dec 2023: Father gives kid an AR-15 for Christmas. [Shaking head]. Some people are just too stupid to own guns or have kids.

1 pointThe one where he rambled on for an hour and never took any questions news conference?
-
1 pointThat’s kind of like Luke Skywalker learning Darth Vader is his father… Wendy P.

1 pointold thread but this made me laugh. I guess the author is not familiar with CReW

1 pointTrump told over 30,000 well documented lies from Jan 2017 to Jan 2021, and has continued to do so. His true believers simply don't care. Just like they don't care that he's a rapist, a fraud and a thief.

1 pointI'd agree to the point that bean counters shouldn't be in charge; but neither should engineers when costs have to be considered. The bean counters have to bound the technical solution (which may not exist within the bounds), while the engineers have to understand the reasons for those boundaries. Otherwise you end up with runaway changes and costs (been there, seen it, been part of it -- and not on the bean side...) Wendy P.

1 pointIt is worth remembering that, aside from having a functioning sense of honor and duty to the country and Constitution, Liz Cheney's political views are anathema to any vaguely leftist or centrist government. She's significantly more hardline than Attila the Hun. She makes Margaret Thatcher look like that hippy chick you hooked up with at a Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament rally in the '70s. The fact that she's not willing to help overthrow a duly elected government in order to impose her policies on a nation that didn't vote for them really should be more of a 'bare minimum expectation' thing.
-
1 pointLike the VP candidate says, just a fact of life, deal with it. /s
-
1 pointI want to see Cheney and Kinzinger in her cabinet. I love what he says about courage in this brief clip:
-
1 pointKamala Harris indicated recently that she would be open to having a Republican in her cabinet. Appointing Liz Cheney would really annoy Trump and the rest of Maga/GOP.
-
1 pointParents being held accountable for their spawns actions might just be the workaround we need.
-
1 pointIn the MAGA world. I mean, in the MAGA world, the kids in that school are all safe from drag queens, rainbow flags and woke. Isn't that what is _really_ important here?
-
1 pointHe already has been charged. The father of the Georgia school shooting suspect has been arrested and charged, authorities say
-
1 pointIts official. The USA, is populated by imbeciles and morons. In what world does a father buy his 14 year old son an AR15 as a present, AFTER the FBI has already visited the home, with regard to on line threats to shoot up a school, emanating from that address. 4 people die at the hands of the 14 year old at the school. The father needs to be charged with 4 counts of murder. Utter madness.

1 pointHi Jerry, I would have spelled it "Puckey" too. Growing up in the 70s, the TV show MASH was huge. When Harry Morgan showed up for the 4th season as commanding officer Colonel Potter, he was presented as a career officer, who had been an old horse cavalry soldier. He brought with him (roughly) a bazillion euphemisms for 'large animal excrement'. Both 'Horse Hockey' and "Horse Puckey" were among them.

1 pointA guy goes into a bar in London, and approaches two enormously large ladies, and says: "Excuse me, are you two ladies from Scotland?" "Wales, Wales", they screeched. "Oh, I'm sorry, are you two whales from Scotland?" Then everything went black....

1 pointIMO there's no reason for bump stocks or binary triggers to be publicly available I understand the suppressors. They reduce recoil and are commonly used for hog and coyote control. I'm not as concerned about them because they are highly regulated. Recently discovered a company in CA that makes a recoil reduction product that also "redirects" the sound but it's not classified as a suppressor. Infinite Product Solutions – Barrel Thread Adapters, Cleaning Kits In S Africa guns are highly regulated yet suppressors are a $200 over the counter item. One can own 4 guns: two rifles, a shotgun and a handgun. An application is required and permission from local enforcement is needed. No semi or auto rifles are allowed. If the gun is lost or stolen one can end up in jail. They will visit your house, inspect your security practices and one better have a great excuse for how it disappeared. If it's used in a crime one will go to jail. They are tracked and regular renewal is required. When a sportsman takes a rifle to Africa the serial number is recorded and listed on the flight ticket. When exiting the country that same gun better be in ones possession.
