1 pointGo for it, Brent. Our excitement around Harris is that she seems poised to defeat Trump, no more. Apparently that does not please you, your contrived protests not withstanding.

1 pointI can't come to the semiotics of that relay being standard. This has to be a one off, an off the cuff. I'd even say if that was not a fabricated relay then whoever originated it had a laps in their critical thinking, was not in their right mind - intoxicated. For the structure of that messaging to be any part standard it implies something else... that I'll not easily accept as truth without seeing proofs. I looked through the thread and did not come across any of Sluggo's remarks on the matter other than his pondering out loud of - What must have been going through those boys minds after hearing that. If Sluggo spoke to this individual at the FAA and posted it maybe he did so somewhere else. Of all the people involved the FAA psy was the highest authority the pilots had to answer to even superseding Nypro. The FAA psy could have had the biggest sway in the outcome of the event if they would have pressed the crew or directed them to action. Rata's integrity and unwillingness to abandon Tina may have what undermined taking any action. In my mind the FAA psy may have held enough power to ground the crew after the fact and even strip them of their flying privileges. I think on the whole pilots and psy don't mix well. I did find a post by Snowman that was interesting, _____________________________________________________________ https://www.dropzone.com/forums/topic/56036-db-cooper/?do=findComment&comment=3083617 Also: A great document for FAA history is the FAA Historical Chronology 1926-1996. http://www.faa.gov/about/media/b-chron.pdf It has good data on what type of hijacking occured when. (download it (big) and search using "hijacking" in adobe reader) Interestingly it perpetuates the myth that Cooper was the first in a series of extortion hijacks (he wasn't) (page 162). One interesting thing I found had to do with various agreements over time, as to who has jurisdiction depending on where the plane is during a hijacking (ground, air etc). It varies between pilot, FAA and FBI. During the time of the Cooper hijack, the existing agreement was that FBI had jurisdication while the plane was on the ground, with pilot at all other times, although FAA recommendations to him took precedence. This changed in '74, to give the FAA jurisdiction from the time the doors closed, to the first door open for disembarking. They did agree that all parties would work together. An agreement in Dec. '71 gave the pilot the responsibility for signaling whether the plane should be disabled or stormed. So Cooper's hijack was during a period where they had not yet fully settled on procedural details of handling a hijack. (page 152) ___________________________________________________________________

1 pointI have worked with women who went below the radar by playing the airhead Barbie doll type, but actually had minds like steel traps. I get no sense that Harris is pretending to be a moron - her track record makes clear that what you see is what you get. Her opponent is beneath contempt by any measure, but she is just as bad when all is said and done. The US of A is an adolescent society as empires go, so it's useful to consider what kind of ghastly "leadership" has been survivable historically. The policies supported by Harris have been the kiss of death to every nation that has put them in practice. On the other hand you have a sociopathic candidate driven solely by greed and self interest, and it is thus possible that he will avoid killing the goose that laid the golden egg. With Harris our goose is cooked Either way, this election goes beyond 'hold your nose and vote,' it is one of having barf bags available at the voting booths. BSBD, Winsor

1 pointBabbling idiot is a useful and accurate description. The earlier story I quoted missed the comment that trump made " He continued by comparing Miriam to MOH recipients saying, “She gets it and she’s a healthy beautiful woman. They are rated equal.” Fucking clown rates a healthy v unhealthy, beautiful v not beautiful, woman comparable to the sacrifice of a warrior who has given it all.

1 pointI didn’t realise that thanks. Well I’ve got zero interest in wasting my time, I enjoy seeing other points of view when they are authentic, but trolling benefits nobody but the troll.

1 pointNot me, I want Merchan to rule that based on Trumps statements and conspiracy claims he's not certain he can understand the seriousness of charges against him. Then postpone sentencing for a week pending a complete psychiatric examination at the Central New York Psychiatric Center. And then have him hauled off then and there for the exam.

1 pointNo, no! I want to see him raking the national forests; To prevent wildfires, you know.

1 pointI might be taking a risk speaking for all lefties here but I'm pretty sure we all think the electoral college is an anti- democratic abomination that has only served to keep an undemocratically minority in power. In other words it's a damn outrage.

1 pointI don't understand why so many of you waste energy arguing with an obvious, blatant troll.

1 pointEven if it was more uniform the same people would be up in arms over theology and what branch others belong to. It has always been the same, only the names have changed.

1 pointIt seems to me many conservatives are hung up on conformity. We all should be straight, gun-toting, country music loving, American-speaking evangelical Christian baby-making machines. Maybe we don't all have to be white, but it's expected that we should all act white (no "ghetto music", no funny hair styles etc). Maybe it's a control thing, any life choices or actions that are different from theirs is somehow threatening, and must be eradicated. Personally I would find a society that has total uniformity to be painfully boring.

1 pointOhhh boy. First off welcome. This is more of a question for "Safety & Training", but it does fit here too. Stalling (aerodynamic stall) isn't really an issue for what you're asking. While it is a function of canopy size, it's not really what you should be worrying about (intentionally stalling a canopy is a normal drill and is something you should have familiarity with by the time you get licensed). Canopy size is more about speed and responsiveness. A larger 'student sized' canopy is analogous to a large family sedan. Slow, not terribly precise in handling, but predictable and easy to control, especially for beginners. Small canopies are similar to sports cars or race cars. Very fast, very responsive, very precise handling. But potentially lethal in the hands of the inexperienced or untrained operator. The typical metric is "wing loading". Weight of the jumper (weight is the total weight of the fully geared up jumper) in comparison to the size of the canopy. Because of the prominence of the US in the sport, weight is in pounds and size is in square feet. The standard recommendation for newly licensed jumpers is less than one pound per square foot. Students generally go lower. That's why, at 180 lbs (probably around 215 fully geared), you are under a canopy much larger. Different DZs have different policies on what kind of wingloading students should have. Most allow higher (smaller canopy) as the student progresses. Some DZs have limited student gear, so your size choice may be limited. Where I started (a small club DZ), all the student gear was 288 Mantas. So, at ~150lbs, I was loading that canopy very lightly. The last DZ I jumped at had a much wider variety of student gear, from 265 down to 170 (the 170 was more for rental to licensed jumpers, but was used for very small students who had nearly reached licensed status). At this point, I wouldn't worry about what size canopy they are giving you. Work on consistent landing patterns, approaches, accuracy and flaring at the right height. Larger canopies are more forgiving, and it's ALWAYS better to err on the side of caution.
