I am an American living in South America for about 5 years now. One of my close friends down here sells real estate and often asks me to help him when he dealing with foreigners. This weekend, I had lunch with a couple that were looking to buy a place from him. They are a very nice couple probably in their late 50’s early 60’s. They live in Central Florida. I proceeded to tell them important things about my experience relocating and warned them of the good/bad/ugly things they may run into. I generally avoid political discussions with strangers, especially in a case where I am doing a favor for a friend, and he stands to make a large commission that his family needs. About halfway through lunch, they asked me some questions about the political situation down here. As I began to explain how things work, I was met with the “Well, anything is better than what we have with Biden and Harris in the US right now”. I was shocked because nothing in the conversation up until that point had led me to believe that they were “that kind”. They then proceed to tell me that the reason that they are looking to buy a place down here is in case Harris wins and they need to escape the US. They seem to be under the impression that if she wins, they will lose all freedom and the US will become a communist country under the Dems. They want an escape plan! The loss of touch with reality blew me away. I see people like that on the news all the time, but talking to them left my jaw hanging wide. I couldn’t understand how anyone could believe that it is the Dems who are trying to take away people's freedoms and turn the country into an autocracy, but that is what they believe. He worked in IT until his retirement (not sure what she did). They both seemed like reasonably intelligent people until that part of the conversation. The level of delusion is amazing. The other thing that occurred to me is that these are people who want to shut down the southern border and keep out the brown people, and yet, they see no hypocrisy in the fact that they want to buy a place in South America to escape. They were also the typical foreigners that complain about the lack of people that speak English here and complained about several other things regarding the local culture.

Well, you did give Fidel Castro a ride on your sled. Seriously, that sort of 'believer' will do or say ANYTHING if it advances their agenda. Or harms those they perceive as 'the enemy' (which is anyone who disagrees with them).

I too have met people who swallow the Newsmax/FoxNews Kool-Aid by the gallon. I spent some time in pre-Wall Poland (1971). People who think like your potential ex-pats have no fucking idea what communism is.

I'm getting that you are psyching yourself out. As an instructor who teaches hundreds of jumpers a year one of the hardest things for us to help a student with is getting them to relax. When you can relax you will finally be able to think your way through the jump. As it stands it's all a blur. I am a big believer in controlled breathing to help bring down the pulse and visualization. Next, I want to address you referring to riding down as " A ride of shame" or rejected jumps. Skydiving is as much or more mental as it is physical. At no point should you ever jump from a plane if you are not 100% mentally prepared. There is no shame in not jumping out of an airplane. There is shame and allowing outside pressure to force you. This can get tou hurt or worse. Want to know how to get in serious trouble or worse, that's how. Do not allow peer pressure or outside influence to force you to jump. This is a personal sport, we all make the decision to jump for ourselves. Breathe, visualize, and find that inner strength you know you have, Good luck.. Rodney

But Biden is the first Lame Duck with full criminal immunity for "official acts". He should take full advantage of it and make the changes needed. Then when the GOP whines about it, he can just shrug and say: "Be careful what you wish for".

I don’t think it helps to frame this guy politically. It sounds like he was a mixed up kid who wanted to get into the history books. He’d have shot Biden or Taylor Swift if they’d been there first. With the number of school and mass shootings, it’s hard to make a name for yourself these days.

I doubt it. Harris is running now not Biden so his legacy must now be on hold. Not a single tilt at a windmill should happen until she's the confirmed nominee and then only with permission from her campaign. In electoral terms, it truly isn't an even money bet. I say wait.

He isn't. He is asking for legislation that would: Not make president immune from criminal prosecution Term limits on SCOTUS justices A binding code of conduct I think this is smart politics. Let the Republicans state they are against these things. I think most Americans would be on board with these three items.

OH, I don't know about that. It might be a very smart election gambit. 36 percent of American adults indicated that they approve of the way the Court is handling its job, while 51 percent of people disapprove . Even 34% of Republicans disapprove of the current SCOTUS and its handling of cases. Could be a good wedge issue.

I hope to hell he doesn't do a damn thing yet, especially given that it'll be ineffective nonsense that will serve only to bolster the weaponization claims. Wait until November 6 after Harris wins or loses and then go after the Court.

At least it shows that he doesn't only hate minorities, you know....racoons,...unless you count redheads as a minority group.

Rather like believing that a cosmic Jewish zombie who was his own father will make you live forever.

The NYT had a very good story about how the right wing media pulls people into its beliefs system. Racked by Pain and Enraptured by a Right-Wing Miracle Cure A former army paratrooper and horse wrangler his body has paid a heavy price. "On the other end of his phone were hundreds of people in a live voice chat for Patriot Party News, one of about a dozen far-right media platforms that has grown in both size and influence over the past few years, not only by creating an ecosystem of disinformation but also by providing an authentic sense of community. The company was co-founded in 2020 by Warren Armour, a conservative with no media experience who runs a flooring company in Tennessee, but Michael admired the Patriot Party News slogan when he first saw it shared on Facebook last year: “If you hate mainstream media, you are going to love us!” Once you go down the rabbit hole, you never come back.

One more time; Popular vote in the 2016 election: Clinton: 65,853,514 Trump: 62,984,828 Difference: + 2,,868,686 for Clinton. The people chose Clinton. The last institutional relic of the slavery era chose Trump.

No Jerry, there is a lot to see and dismissing it is to ignore one of the most important realities in this election. It should be discussed and denigrated in the hopes of diminishing the power it holds over some voters. The right wants to deflect attention away from real issues to what they see as the more powerful and critical religious reasons to vote Trump. That is, at the end of the day they want to destroy Jesus and burn your bibles so the rest of it doesn't really matter.

The Olympic games are not satanic, but they are clearly pagan in origin and were held to honour Zeus. So there is that.

For it to be hypocrisy, a person has to have words and actions in conflict with each other, so this has to be on the same topic. If a BLM supporter likes coke and I like pepsi, it doesn't mean that I'm now racist and don't support the movement. This is what Coreece is trying to insinuate, with his weird pretending to care about racism, when we all remember what he was saying in 2020. Now that's hypocrisy.

Very possibly true. Or maybe it was laser-eyes Joe who orchestrated the whole thing so that it happened after the Republican convention and VP pick Wendy P.

No, what's creepy is you always arguing in bad faith. Here you are pretending to support BLM, but we know that you don't. I've come to expect evangelicals to be dishonest liars, but it's still unbelievable how openly dishonest they can be - I mean, don't they realise what they post here is recorded?

MAGA’s outlook is ‘There are very fine people on both sides’ provided their words can be twisted to fit our agenda. I’ve been slow to really understand that MAGA is a genuine cult and not simply cult like. You can’t reason with cult members, it just drives them deeper in. The only thing to do is to ignore them and push forward with the future. Cult leaders die and the cult usually falls apart, we just have to let it run its course. You can feel pity for them and show them compassion, but there is no positive from engaging only negative.

They're not. The only one making a big fuss over this is you.

Okay so BLM is bullshit and Black people are lazy. Thanks, Coreece, for dropping your truth-bombs on the SC tonight!
