4 pointsI can't. Biden is boring and old, but has done well so far. He will get more boring and more old, and likely not survive his next term, or will be 25th'ed out. In which case the presidency will be in disarray and nothing much will get done. Which is not the worst outcome. Trump is an active danger to America. He has long campaigned on retribution and vengeance, and has stated he will be a "dictator" for a short time, and that he wants to "terminate" the "phony" Constitution. That's an active threat to America. One could claim "well, he won't be able to do that" - but ten years ago I am sure no one would have thought he could mount an insurrection, get abortion de-legalized or put Putin on a pedestal, either. If he accomplishes even 25% of what he sets out to do, he will have damaged the US significantly. Also, he is just plain evil. You can explain away greedy business decisions ("it's for the stockholders!") having a drug addict son, treating your kids poorly ("they're just not good kids") even working to take rights away from women ("the states should decide.") But you cannot pursue a stranger into a changing room and rape them without being inherently evil. And I don't want the US led by an evil man. The choice, for me, is very clear. The US is too important to me to ignore the threat.

3 pointsHi Mark, Best PR thing that could happen for Trump. Think about the photos of Trump with his fist in the air, blood on his face, compared to Biden who feebly says, 'We beat MediCare.' Jerry Baumchen PS) Largest 2 inches in modern American political history.
-
2 pointsI disagree with that. If he gets the majority of house and senate (unlikely), he will never leave office, ever, not under any circumstances and the GOP will let that happen. Even if he loses, they already have plans in place to disrupt the election again, possibly sending it to the states for adjudication. All the checks and balances will be re-appointed with Trump loyalists who are also equally a threat to America, democracy and the world. Threats are already regularly pursued by law enforcement, but apparently the Supreme Court is on Trumps side and shoots all those efforts to hell. yet another example of the end of America.
-
2 pointsTrump in the end will likely make America stronger. Xi and Putin have weakened their respective countries more than any leaders since WW ll. The US has the strongest economy, the reserve currency, is the leader in technology, food and fuel independent. Trump has exposed weakness and flaws in the political system. This idiot shooter who may be called a patriot by some. In fact will likely galvanize support for Trump and likely hand Trump re-election. Whatever damage Trump inflicts during a second term can be undone. The radical ideas of disbanding entire federal agencies is fatally flawed. The GOP may need to change its name and entire philosophies after a second Trump term. But America, like a aircraft carrier can turn around, change direction because its a democracy. Not a dictatorship or kingdom ruled by cliques or elites. It will find its way.

2 pointsThe American people are the most divided we've seen in this lifetime. Most of the left-leaning on here have made comments about Biden's lack of fitness for varying reasons, Trump fitness is more than questionable. I haven't sat out since 1980. What in the hell are my choices? What the hell are anybody's choices? We're not voting for anymore - we're voting against. You have been vocal about your lack of confidence in Biden - you're not really voting for him, you're voting against Trump. I bring up a D that I would vote for, young, military experience, Rhodes Scholar, socially responsible, fiscally conservative, gun laws in Maryland that have yet to be challenged, etc. and yet, he gets a dismissive wave of the hand cause America is "not ready" for another Black on the ticket. The truth is - I will sit out this one if no one brings us the type of leadership this country needs. Abstention is active politics. It's being able to stand up and say, I don't agree with either position because it's not in the interest of the greater good. If enough people abstain, then sometimes people will reflect on doing something different - or they'll just dig in their heels and drive their point harder - even if it's not for the benefit of everyone - that's the real self-chicanery. You want me to vote your way. Not the best way.

2 pointsWhat did you guys expect. If you claim Trump is an existential threat to the country, wouldn’t it be the responsibility of every patriot to eliminate the threat?
-
2 pointsI hope his bone spurs are OK. I would expect the republicans to look at this like they do Chicago, just another criminal gunfight. Criminals shoot each other all the time. Just another felon involved in more crimes.

2 pointsA cruel irony that the politician who has called for violence and unlawful acts the most is now the victim.

1 pointso I might be the last surviving member of the policing crew that Tarred feathered John Vincent in his own apartment in New Orleans. Earl Redfern is dead, Gardner Sapp is dead. My girlfriend who knocked on the door is dead. Samantha God bless her soul. And the cameraman Mike Tenney is also dead. Earl had a girlfriend named Janice and I don’t know if she’s alive or not. anyway, I will briefly tell the story. I woke up one morning in Atlanta with Earl dropping the news on me that John had come and jumped one of our buildings and made this building hot that was under construction. I believe it was the promenade building. We were friends with the construction workers as we were jumping it 2 to 3 times a week at night and keeping a very low profile. One of the guys that operated the Crane got fired for letting John go out on it thinking he was one of us. and I said to Earl “we should go in tar and feather that motherfucker“. I was kidding. He was not. There’s a story about where I thought we should throw a 30k cubic foot skydiving smoke canister into the sheriff station that I was kidding about that he wasn’t (earl said 30k cubic feet of smoke...i never was a skydiver, I just know it was a lot of smoke in fact, smoked up the entire town from the lobby and I spent 30 days in jail) )but that’s a different story. Anyway back to Vincent. So without me even knowing Earl went and went a van and just said “get in” so six of us piled in and headed from Atlanta to New Orleans, given the address by the head of the basis association at the time. I can’t exactly remember his name now, but everybody was mad at John for this so we were given the address in confidence. There were three other guys besides me. And they were like talking about how they were going to kick his ass in one way or the other other, and I was more mentally perseverating on going to prison. but we picked up some roofing tar and some pillows and duct tape and made sure that our batteries were charged for the cameras. when we got there, I had my cute girlfriend knock on the door and he eventually opened it. What kind of pissed me off right off the bat was that my friends were down the stairs and here I was at the top of the stairs to take the first shot. but anyway, John opened the door and as fit as he was, he was hung over as I was told later, and I flipped him over his couch and his feet went up in the air, and I managed to headlock him and his ankles together and the others got him at least duct taped at the feet. It took a little bit more to control his upper body. and I think if he were awake and well, he probably could’ve taken out all four of us, but we managed to get him subdued. and he was getting a bit noisy, so Earl had to duct tape, his mouth shut and his eyes, and he slapped him a couple of times telling him to shut up. and yeah, he was blaming it on Tracy which I think it was another base jumper. and he really didn’t know why we were there, but he finally comes around and says so “you guys aren’t here to steal my dope?” anyway it was really funny hearing him say that with duck tape across his mouth, all muffled and shit. when we got the plastic down in his floor, that’s when he really started to freak out. But we put him in the center of a big plastic sheet and then opened up the tar can on him and he let out this deep disgusting groan “ewwww”. and then came the feathers. we were reasonably careful not to get it in his hair or fuck up his carpet. Then he finally goes. “Is this for making a building hot” and the girl Janice said yup and this is for that guys job too… the crane operator. anyway, I’ve still got the video and I would like to post it and put a link here. It’s pretty graphic though. I mean, he was yelling a bit like he was in pain, but it wasn’t really that much pain. He was just more protesting. anyway, I don’t know if it would be proper to post it right up on YouTube or anything because it would probably violate some sort of policy for sure. Any idea how I can share it so that this is historical element can be preserved?

1 pointI always go back to an interview with Charlie Sykes, a conservative journalism, writer and podcaster, after Charlottesville. He sums it up perfectly... not just this event but a statement on the entirety of Trumps presidency: From 2017 - https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/21/magazine/charlie-sykes-is-unsure-about-the-future-of-the-gop.html "I’m assuming you’re not surprised by Trump’s inability to condemn the white-supremacist march. I’m shocked but not surprised. Denouncing Nazis is the easiest thing in the world: All it requires is a modicum of historical perspective and a working moral compass. Instead, we got this Dumpster fire."

1 pointMaybe the GOP will start to think more seriously now about keeping guns away from loonies. (But I doubt it).

1 pointTrump is weird, in general, but his reaction to fist pump and cheer on the crowd was scary smart of him, politically speaking.
-
1 pointEverything Trump and the MAGA mob say and do suggest the end of democracy is exactly their aim. And a lot of their rhetoric is straight out of the Nazi playbook.
-
1 pointThat goes both ways. When the Left is describing a potential second Trump term as “the end of democracy” and “the country won’t survive if Trump gets elected” this was bound to happen. (or describing Trump supporters as Nazis)
-
1 pointAs the saying goes, "Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind". He's brought this kind of event on himself by his own vile rhetoric. Wasn't he joking about Paul Pelosi being attacked? Did one of the SS yell: "Donald, duck"

1 pointNo, I don't watch long-ass videos as a rule, but I did watch most of "2000 Mules." At 89 minutes, it's nearly 3 times as long as this one, an "Ultimate History Crash Course" This video is also much of what I object to in those videos; it provides the evidence, and then makes the conclusions for you. It makes the viewers simply viewers and customers for viewpoints, rather than providing information for people to make their own decisions. I wouldn't normally have watched it, but I'm stuck at home for the day. And at least it's broken into 6 separate mini-narratives (as opposed to segments -- these are narratives, not reports), so you can quit any time... They're why I don't normally watch Michael Moore movies, either (although I did like "Roger and Me," and "Where to Invade Next," one because it was his first, and the other because it was telling you about new things, and I'm frankly energized by change) Wendy P.

1 pointI feel no pity for him, not that I condone it. Trumps reaction was weird, the guy is not right in the head. Who has a near miss and needs to be muscled into the car as he’s pumping his fist?
-
1 pointStrange that the Secret Service held him up for more shots. Aren't they supposed to dog pile him? Weird. Edit: Apparently a rally attendee was killed and another wounded along with the shooter. Surely the secret service didn't make that error.

1 pointI neither get this way of thinking or respect it, sorry to say. To say you aren't "voting against" is self chicanery; just a cheap mechanism to pretend the truth isn't the truth: you reserve the right to sit out the hard ones. Please rethink your position.

1 pointHi Keith, Last nite I was thinking about Biden's presser; where he talked about all the primaries that he had won. If we [ all of us ] knew then what we know now, I doubt he would have won them like he did. Jerry Baumchen PS) I know that he is a long-time politician; but, when asked a question about his health, he just talks about what he has accomplished in last 3 1/2 yrs. IMO after the debate, that is not going to cut it. Bill Maher: Question of Biden replacement ‘isn’t if, it’s who’ (msn.com)

1 pointDid you get the news? “Crude oil is quoted in U.S. dollars (USD). Countries that import oil pay for it in the greenback. Similarly, those that export the commodity receive payment in USD. This system dates back to the early 1970s after the collapse of the Bretton Woods gold standard. This period saw the rise of the petrodollar system, which promoted the U.S. dollar's rise as the world's reserve currency. Oil producers and purchasers use this system to trade in the commodity in U.S. dollars.”

1 pointYes Trump is all of those things but the border was secure and wages were rising faster than inflation. The average American was doing better during the Trump administration than during the Biden Administration. When asked the question “are you better off today than four years ago, most Americans, according to polls, say no. That is just a cold hard fact. We just spent about a trillion dollars of our children’s money on a bogus Green New Deal Lite. The only thing that will accomplish is raising electricity bills and lining the pockets of Democrat cronies. It will NOT lower global CO2, it will NOT lower global temperatures, it will NOT lead to a magical energy transformation. From the Washington Post “But now, more than two years after Congress allocated $7.5 billion to help build out those stations, only 7 EV charging stations are operational across four states.”
