4 pointsHe can't piss me off, since he is on my ignore list. Has been for several years. I only see the nonsense he posts if someone else quotes him. I choose not to engage with such obvious trolls.

2 pointsIf the Russians want peace, then the simple answer is to pack up their shit and f*ck off back to Mother Russia. Simples.

2 pointsWell, the Supremes put Alabama in its place. The gerrymandered map that AL Republicans twice tried to foist on the voters has again been rejected.

2 pointsI've heard the story,, you know there is no evidence, somebody is just telling a narrative with no proof. That isn't how this works.. stories aren't evidence, anybody can make up anything. Reca also told a story... riddled with errors. The rubber bands were too brittle to be re-buried... no way somebody could bury them in that condition. The sand on the money was Columbia River... Believe what you want,,, but there is NO evidence to support that re-burial narrative and there is evidence to refute it.

2 pointsAnd driving a Mercedes isn't signaling anything? You know, it well might be that EV's are a cul-de-sac off the super highway leading to a future not dependent on fossil fuels. But even if you believe that 1000ppm CO2 is both salubrious and an awesome goal the bottom line is still that fossil fuels will eventually be too depleted to mine economically. In your Luddite like world view we should just stay chill and enjoy the benefits now and let the future take care of itself. I can't buy that way of thinking because the risks to our one planet, and to your own kids, are too great. In the words of Marcus Aurelius: "That which isn't good for the hive, isn't good for the bee."

1 pointAnd another potential scumbag - Derrick Anderson looked like an ideal GOP candidate. Green Beret, tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, law degree from Georgetown, several clerkships. And he says he has roots in Fredericksburg and has lived in Spotsylvania County since 2021, which is where the 7th district is - the one he's running for. No carpetbagging here. Local boy makes good. Except it turns out he doesn't live there. He actually lives in an Alexandria townhouse that he bought for $852,000 in 2021 with a VA loan that is “only available for a primary residence" according to the VA laws on that. But he put down his address on his voting form as an apartment in Fredericksburg. So is he living there? If he is, he's violating the law. Or is he living in Alexandria? If he is, he's committing voter fraud. When asked his campaign just started digging a bigger and bigger hole. According to them, see, there's no requirement to live in the Alexandria house, and he is free to rent it out to other people - in other words, become a landlord with a loan meant for struggling veterans to be able to afford houses. Not a good look, and not even legal. Per the VA, "there must be no indication that the veteran has established, intends to establish, or may be required to establish, a principal residence elsewhere.” All of which actually makes him . . . a pretty ideal GOP candidate, still. If he turns out to have a past of sex abuse, he will check all the boxes.

1 pointYep. A geat article about a Nobel-winning economist (and immigrant) on America's policies when it comes to the growing divide between wealthy and poor. One point he brings up is that real income has been going down for decades for people without college degrees - in other words, the people most affected by automation. And life expectancy in this group is going down as well, due mainly to suicides of despair. And he also blames his fellow economists for not only not helping, but contributing to this by providing cover for corporations who push trickle-down economics as a smokescreen to cover their own excesses. Specifically, "when confronted with deaths of despair, they can blame the victims and those who try to help them." https://www.npr.org/sections/money/2023/09/26/1199422599/a-nobel-prize-winning-immigrants-view-on-american-inequality

1 pointWhat kind of doublespeak is that? The shareholders also pay the workers, or didn't you know that?
-
1 point$10K new for my daily driver, $3500 on Ebay for a reconditioned one. Since they are both still under warranty, not too worried. How much for a new engine/transmission for your gas car?
-
1 pointThe workers gave up quite a lot back during the financial crisis back in the 'late zeroes'. The execs claimed it was necessary to keep the companies afloat. Whether that was true or not is irrelevant. The fact that: 1 - the car companies have posted record profits in the past few years 2 - executive compensation has risen by something like 36%, while 'regular workers' have seen basically nothing (which is a 'real life' pay CUT once inflation is factored in). is a pretty good indication that the grievances from the unions have some merit.

1 pointJust poor, innocent, victim Slim getting time-outs for a sin no greater than posting while conservative...And maybe - just maybe - also the sin of loving too much.
-
1 pointWell, YOU brought up "Covenant" and the Afghanistan withdrawal, and the Doha accords (Feb. 2020) were Trump's doing.
-
1 pointDo you honk your horn, your car horn, and how much does that cost per honk? How much per turn signal or, and here's the biggie, can poor people even afford to drive EV's at night? I've done the maths (thanks Olof) and anyway you cut it if you are poor you cannot beat the overall economies of a Mercedes no matter how elite you are.

1 pointMore a scumbag reporter than a scumbag politician, but it was cool to see FOX's Brian Kilmeade owned by the former Ukranian president Petro Poroshenko. Background: Giuliani went to Ukraine and came back with the shocking (and extremely convenient) story that Joe Biden got Ukraine Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin sacked in order to protect Hunter's company Burisma. It's been extensively disproven, but that hasn't stopped FOX. And this time Kilmeade thought he had a scoop for sure - an exclusive interview with the guy who fired Shokin! Surely the former Ukranian president would know the truth that the Bidens were vile criminals! So he asked Poroshenko about that firing. Kilmeade: Is that why he got fired? Because of the billion dollars and the former vice president, now president? Poroshenko: First of all, this is a completely crazy person. This is something wrong with him. Second, there is not one single word of truth. And third, I hate the idea to make any comments and to make any intervention in the American election. We have very much enjoyed bipartisan support. There was an awkward (and gratifying) pause at that point as Kilmeade tried to figure out how to get out of this sudden hole he found himself in.

1 pointNope. Lowest quintile incomes have, at best, not moved in the past 60 years or so, while the top quintile has more than doubled. They're not moving on to better jobs. They are taking the best job they can find in the shrinking list available.

1 pointHi Jerry, I would think a farrier would look at the wheels & tires and think about repair of those. Keep in mind that a 'mechanic' fixes a lot more than just the engine.

1 pointI purchased a Firebolt 218 at around 30 jumps. i've put around a hundred jumps on it since and i've never had a problem with it. I did call and talk with Nancy a couple of times before I ordered it. The dual brake lines have never been a problem for me, but I also take my time when packing. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid!
-
1 pointAs a loyal Jumpshack customer, I can say that I don't believe you'd be making a mistake in going with a Firebolt. Call Jumpshack. Say Hi to Nancy - she's a sweetheart who will help work you onto the right canopy. =========Shaun ==========

1 pointDISCLOSURE: I work for the manufacturer of that equipment I jump a Firebolt sport main and a Firebolt tandem main and I don't think you'll have any issues with it as long as you respect the equipment. The Firebolt is very capable of flying sedately and calmly, but it is capable of some more exciting performance when heavily loaded. I weigh 170 lb and jump a 164 and I can float it back from a long spot and get excellent landing flare. Just my $0.02c Pete Draper, Just because my life plan is written on the back of a Hooter's Napkin, it's still a life plan.... right?
