7 pointsInitially. If all guns must be registered and accounted for cradle to grave, then when the police come across a gun that is not registered; they confiscate and smelt it. There will always be the "survivalist" mentality of keeping their guns locked away - in case. But, they would be locked away. It would take time, but as you say, "It's an entry point." If the NRA had a brain in their head, they would realize the amount of money they could make in education, training, etc. instead of "The libs are coming after your 2nd amendment rights!!!" I joined the NRA for one year back in the mid-80's. They must have spent ten times as much sending me fliers of fear a couple of times a month. And, we were done. Ya know, my plan is no different than what we had in the military, cradle to grave responsibility, proper training, maintenance and storage, personal accountability, no walking around base with a weapon on your hip, etc. I really don't see what the big deal is migrating that to a civilian populace.

4 pointsAt the end of the day, Donald Trump is just a private citizen and a former government employee who allegedly committed crimes. The facts will lock him up or set him free. All the people who are weeping and gnashing teeth over his indictment give me the mental image of the woman with a black eye and knocked out tooth who defends the man who just punched her in the face.

3 pointsProbably the most insightful reporting you’ll see on this story today - Major US bike race founder indicted Trump is perhaps best known as the creator of the Tour de Trump – a major US cycling race run in 1989 and 1990, which later rebranded to the Tour DuPont. When launching the race, Trump estimated that “with a little maturity, with a little time, with a little effort and with NBC’s help, we’ll make this [Tour de Trump] the equivalent of the Tour de France” – a reality that never took shape, due to a lack of maturity, time, and effort. … Trump’s initial foray into cycling was not entirely without controversy. The race was waylaid by anti-capitalist protesters on the first stage, and one of the competing teams was sponsored by leading Dutch brothel, Sauna Diana. In an uncharacteristic show of legal bluster from Trump, his team also sent a cease and desist letter to the organisers of a Colorado event called the Tour de Rump, protesting the similarity in naming, despite the Tour de Rump having existed first. He never changes!

3 pointsIt's fucking hilarious that they defend the idea of naming US military installations (and a lot of equipment in the same time frame) after traitors responsible for the deaths of thousands of US soldiers. But watch the tops of their heads come off if you mention Jane Fonda.

2 pointsTrump advisor and FOX News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle: "It's not misdemeanors - he's looking at time behind bars. Major trouble. These are serious allegations. He used this money to hide his mistress. I think there's a very strong case against him." (in reference to John Edwards in 2011.)

2 pointsNo, I don't want turns above 180 degrees banned from all USPA DZ's. I think they are a bad idea at most DZ's for reasons previously stated. Like others, I came around to restricting turns to no more than 180 mostly because for most people that's fun enough and, regardless of the memes, seemed to not create excess casualties. And, yes, that's in the vetted, "HP" landing area that is separated from the main landing area by a runway. In our main landing area the limit is 90 degrees and traffic patterns are expected on both sides. Understand I didn't just come out of the gate trying to destroy CP before it could get off the ground. We were early adopters. Over two decades ago we built what at the time was the largest swoop pond on the west coast: 200' X 60' X 4' deep. Truly a thing of beauty, it was. There is even nice triptych of me chowing on a Stiletto somewhere. We were all about it. The idea was to make CP safer; that swoopers would do the big turn in such a way that if they blew it they would at least hit water. Swoopers needed to show real skill before doing a coast to coast. But they were selfish and turned me into a cop. The most frustrating were the ones who practiced along side the pond so if they chowed they wouldn't get their rig and Cypres wet. And chow they did. Transient jumpers simply flouted the rules and moved on. Those are my rules and that's my history. Others can do as they choose based on their tolerance and situation. And it should not be a surprise that I think USPA shouldn't be overtly supportive of the practice.

2 pointsAnd that's where Bigun's plan is an entry point. It's not comprehensive, and might not move the dial noticeably on the number of guns, but it's more likely to move the dial on people's perception that guns are, in fact, part of the problem, and should be regulated. Small steps are better than no steps. Wendy P.

2 pointsI'd bet they want to. But Dominion won't take any sort of deal like that. They want their day in court. They want vindication. They lost a LOT of business (and revenue) due to Fox's lies. In addition to the lost revenue, they want their reputation back. If it were me, I'd want all the 'big name liars' fired. Gone. I'd want those losing their jobs to close out their final appearance with admissions that they lied and apologies to those they lied about. I'd want the top of every hour and the start of every show to have an admission and an apology for what they did. And enough money to hurt Fox badly. No "NDA", nothing that keeps Dominion from shouting at the top of their lungs "THOSE ASSHOLES LIED ABOUT US AND OUR MACHINES".

2 pointsThis is actually a beautiful thing. It will cause the R party to be forced to rally around him and then give him the nomination. Even though he could not beat Biden last time around and will be even weaker next time. This will save Y'all from the possibility of a President De Santis. Who actually could be worse than Trump as he is far smarter and likely to be more effective at moving the nation backwards.

2 pointsI suspect people who object to "Black Lives Matter" are subconsciously (or intentionally) adding in a word that isn't there, they think it means "Only Black Lives Matter". Of course that isn't what the expression says, or means. It does not mean "white lives don't matter", or "blue lives don't matter", or any other group of people anyone might care to reference. It isn't necessary to state "white lives matter" or "blue lives matter" because they have always mattered, at least in the US. It is necessary to proclaim that Black Lives Matter, because so much US history has emphatically stated that black lives don't matter.

1 pointYup. During the early 20th century, the Klan had a very firm grip on a lot of local governments. The same ones that picked the names for those places. Hint: When in a small, midwest or southern town, see if you can find the "Kozy Korner Kafe" or something similar. Take a guess what it means.

1 pointThere's a great book regarding global warming. It contains all of the seminal papers written about global warming since the 18th century. https://www.amazon.com/Warming-Papers-Scientific-Foundation-Forecast-ebook/dp/B00CM7AI9M/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1ALZFYC06E75P&keywords=The+Warming+Papers&qid=1680297653&sprefix=the+warming+papers%2Caps%2C477&sr=8-1 We need to become better stewards of our planet. I don't think anyone would argue against that.

1 pointHi Sky, Back in the 80's, along I-5, just north of Albany, Oregon, there was a large billboard for a car dealer in Albany. In very large letters, it said: BUICK Then just below that, in much smaller letters it said: HONDA A few years later, in very large letters, it said: HONDA Then just below that, in much smaller letters it said: BUICK Jerry Baumchen PS) IMO one can evolve or become extinct.

1 pointHi Keith, First, I applaud your continuing concern & input about the problem. IMO you are way ahead of most of the posters on here; including me. Re: all guns must be registered and accounted for cradle to grave I would add; if you had a gun that was registered & accounted for and I got my hands on it and committed a crime, you would suffer some responsibility for the crime. If I loan you my car, I have some responsibility for the crash that you cause. If anyone doubts this, just ask your insurance company & see what they tell you. BTDT, Jerry Baumchen

1 pointNot that ironic I don't think. The Republican party in those days was quite different and much closer to what the Democratic party has been since.
-
1 pointThat's a good point that I hadn't considered before. The desire of people to "protect their guns from a tyrannical dictatorial etc government" might lead to better storage - at least, make them harder for cops/kids to find.

1 pointThe tie clasp... This was discussed years ago but needs a refresh.. the more recent images of the tie have the clip on the left side. But, earlier images show it on the right side. The clip has been removed many times and was put on the wrong side.. In this UV image, based on the particles the clasp was on the right side. Also, men's shirts have the buttons on the right side, the clip can't hold the tie to the shirt if on the left side, it has to be on the right. So, whether the wearer is right handed or left handed the clip has to be on the right and doesn't indicate the handedness of wearer. Right side..

1 pointWhich makes it fit in with the “well-regulated militia” part of the second amendment. The US isn’t likely to repeal the second amendment in my lifetime; too many diehards have to die first. But this is a step that fits into the “reasonable” box for some people who would never vote to repeal the amendment. Wendy P.

1 pointYeah I expect in response they will make up a load of utter bollocks that makes no sense whatsoever to any sentient individual. Wait, how will we tell again?

1 pointThe compelled testimony that will result from this indictment is going to provide years of amazing entertainment. Rudy Giuliani under oath is going to be hilarious.
-
1 pointYep; Senile old fool being defended, by another senile old fool. That should sell a lot of popcorn!
-
1 pointWe haven't seen the indictment yet, but if it is what they have been talking about, I think it is a mistake and will be used to attack future indictments that actually have more meat on their bones.

1 pointTax payers paid for it to be named, but shouldn't pay for it to be renamed? Weird reasoning.

1 pointMeanwhile back in reality: Electric vehicle (EV) sales are accelerating faster than predicted and are now expected to reach 55 per cent of total global vehicle sales by 2030, significantly earlier than previously forecast, according to a new report by consultancy organisation EY. https://www.irishtimes.com/business/2023/03/27/ev-sales-now-expected-to-account-for-55-of-total-global-vehicle-sales-by-2030/ Electrification of cars in the United States significantly accelerated in early 2023, according to the latest reports for the month of January. According to the registration data from Experian (via Automotive News), out of 1.24 million new light vehicles registered in January, some 87,708, or 7.1 percent were all-electric. That's a 74 percent increase year-over-year and a noticeable change, compared to a 4.3 percent share in January 2022. The 7.1 percent share is also a step change from 5.6 percent in the 12 months of 2022. https://insideevs.com/news/657660/us-electric-car-sales-january2023/ US EV Sales Hit New Record, And People Are Buying More Than Just Teslas https://www.pcmag.com/news/us-ev-car-sales-hit-new-record-and-people-are-buying-more-than-just-teslas

1 pointYou'd think so. But from the posts in these forums we all know how the gun nuts think. Guns, specifically AR-15s are necessary to own because Washington doesn't work. Washington is the source of all our problems. Every red-neck American must be armed to the teeth with lots of 5.56 in storage. Because Libs and Washington are the enemy.Every day that message gets delivered to the gun loving base. The costs of smoking in many countries are pictured on the front of each cigarette package. Perhaps its time to put the costs of guns on the stocks of guns and boxes of ammunition. Together with the picture of the child who suffered that injury.

1 pointHi Mark, Many years ago, I was reading article about the GOP & Roe v Wade. One analogy was, what would the dog do if it it ever caught the car. The GOP found Roe v Wade to be something that they could use to stir up people. In their minds, this led to re-election. It has been working exactly how they wanted it to work. Then the GOP 'discovered' the 2nd Amendment. It also is working exactly how they want it to work. IMO both are just ways to stir up people to help ensure the re-election of GOP candidates. When this country comes to it's senses [ do not expect it soon ] and we vote out the people to are the T's & P's folks, then we will be able to make progress. While I truly wish BIGUN's ( Keith's ) suggestions could come to fruition, I am not holding my breath. I wish that I could be more optimistic. We got rid of one idiot ( Trump ), now we need to get rid of the other idiots. Jerry Baumchen

1 pointThis is a big part of the problem. Maybe were approaching the problem the wrong way. Rather than addressing law abiding gun owners maybe we should work on the law breakers. Let's find ways to take guns from criminals.
