And yet, here you are; doing that very thing.

I found it in Himmelsbach's book... GG probably got it from there... It isn't in the Lysne's FBI 302.. not sure if this is accurate or a manufactured narrative.

This. Note that "defanged" doesn't mean police shouldn't be able to protect themselves; it just means that they should behave like most American snakes -- attack only if there is no other option, rather than like a bully, who expects and extorts compliance first, second, and third. Not all police are like that, but too many are. Wendy P.

As a practical matter, I always discount the credibility of anyone who hides behind a facade. Believe as you like but I consider that assessment a fair starting point. So, if you are afraid to state out loud who you are that's a chip on your shoulder, officer. A quick look at Oregon PERS rules didn't exclude overtime pay. Sure I could have missed that but in any case I don't care, it's not my argument. In my opinion, if need be, we should increase police pay until the right people start applying. But we should also increase training and accountability a lot. No way should a rookie have a gun in less than half a year of slap dash training. In fact they shouldn't even be through 20% of academy training at that stage. Gun certification shouldn't even start until year two. Also, every effort should be made to make the forces not look like paramilitary organizations. The crooks aren't impressed, obviously, and the citizenry are too often afraid of those who claim to serve and protect. As I stated: defanged not defunded.

The problem with that thinking is that there may be 5, 10 or 20 thousand other people who think exactly the same and who didn't vote. Those votes might make a difference or, if those votes went to a candidate not from one of the two main parties, would be a red flag to say that they're not doing something right.

All good advice above. Protect yourself by having any purchases inspected by a well-known loft before it shipped across the border. A complete inspection of harness, container, AAD and reserve is the same as the cost ($80 to $100 Canadian) of a regular reserve inspect-and-repack. Expect to pay another $30 for for a main inspection. An independent loft will tell you honestly whether any second-hand gear is worth four dollars/yen/yuan/euros/etc. If the equipment needs any repairs (e.g. new line set) you are best to have the Australian loft do the work before the gear crosses the border.

I don't think that's the word you think it is. Because that's not what's happening.

Are you getting any coaching while you are there? I've written letters (and done interviews by phone) for students who needed a visa. They never asked me "how long is this course" so people would come for a 4 day course but have a visa for the following several weeks to stay and jump more.

I want to know what the betting odds are for McCarthy tearing up the paper at the end.

I would just say 'vacation' or 'holidays' or something similar. I doubt they'd deny a visa just because you said you were going to BASE jump, but I'd avoid the hassle unless they asked for some reason.

What I responded to was your phrase, "That's the 'woke' part of the equation to which I object, where one group of people see fit to inflict their world view on everyone else." Which is exactly what you've been doing since last year. I'm not going to play your game of throwing shit out here and then following up with, you didn't get my joke, or cause I'm so smart; you missed my point. Now it would appear we're playing the old, "I'm rubber, you're glue, whatever you say . . ." game. My mistake for re-engaging with you. Be well.

But his view of the world is the correct one.

Fine! Don't vote. But by not voting, you also lose the privilege of complaining about whichever politician gets elected.

Wait, what? So lemme get this right - if a biological female demanded that you not refer to her using male pronouns (in other words, asks you to call her exactly what you would normally call her) you would refuse? If there was any more evidence needed that the only cause of the anti-woke crowd is the determination to be rude out of sheer spite…

I'm sure this is beating a dead horse (or driver), but I was curious about the comparison between becoming a licensed barber vs police officer in Georgia, the state I live in. Barber: 1. Graduate from a 1500 hour Georgia Barber Training Program 2. Pass National Theory and Georgia State Practical Licensing Exam 3. Submit a Georgia Master Barber license application to the board 4. Explore your career options and keep your license current Police officer (basic): Basic Police Officer training program highlights: Length of Program: 11 weeks Non-refundable tuition: $3,093 Note that 1500 hours is 37 weeks (assuming 40 hrs/wk). So 37 hrs of training plus a national and a state exam to cut hair. 11 weeks of training to carry a firearm and make split second life and death decisions. WTF???? What about becoming a licensed farrier in Georgia? (For those who don't know, a farrier trims horses hoofs, puts on horseshoes, basically anything around foot care for horses.) he only way to become a licensed farrier in Georgia is to complete a 4 year apprenticeship with an Approved Training Farrier. 4 years vs 11 weeks!!! Policing is (or should be) a profession, and it should be treated as one. Police officers need to know a myriad of subjects, not the least of which is the law (including constitutional law), psychology (especially how to deal with people with psychiatric issues, but also normal but angry or frightened people), sociology, self defense, marksmanship (hopefully rarely used), and on and on. Plenty of material for a 4 year degree, or at a minimum 2 years of community college. Of course then you have to pay them as professionals, but you can also demand a professional standard of performance.
