I think this is a perfect example of the current assault on democracy because it’s rooted in a fundamental refusal of one side to accept reality. I heard an example recently that you can’t have legitimate political discourse anymore when this happens. We can all disagree on solutions and policies and that’s fine, no matter whether a policy is good or bad we can talk about it. But where we used to have one side saying they want a traffic light on this road and one side saying they don’t, now we have one side saying they want a traffic light and the other side saying the road doesn’t exist. In this case we have the Pelosi’s, the SF PD, the Capitol PD and the suspect himself saying he broke into the Pelosi’s home to kidnap Nancy. It’s true. It happened. And the right say it’s faked. Or if it’s not faked he was Paul’s male hooker. Or if he wasn’t a hooker he was let in the house first then tried to break out. Or if it wasn’t that it was something else - because the only thing we know for sure is that what every single person involved says is the truth isn’t the truth. What do you do with that? How do you talk to that? Like with Epstein. There isn’t a Republican alive who hasn’t voted against prison reform, or any funding to stop them from turning into overcrowded, understaffed and under resourced hellscapes yet when an at risk prisoner is failed by chronically overworked staff who just don’t give a fuck anymore they’re shocked that the system doesn’t work perfectly and the only explanation must be a Clinton conspiracy. It’s utter bullshit.

If it made economic sense to hold a lot of stock, manufacturers would do it. They may be skydivers, but most are not stupid. As someone who used to work in the industry on multiple fronts I can tell you the gap between actual manufacturer revenues and the perceived revenues (by the general jumping public) are large. Companies spend a lot of time/money to R&D/manufacture/market a product that will be sold to very few people at a very modest profit margin. Then, once the product is out in the wild it will be active for decades...often passing hands multiple times competing with new gear sales along the way. The industry is a money-maker for very very few, and the supply side is crowded. Most are in the industry out of passion, not profit. We're lucky it's as good as it is, but I suppose these threads are mostly for complaining so fire away!

Of course there is. The cops & the Pelosis are under no obligation to release the entire story to the media. There are lots of reasons they wouldn't (one that comes to mind it that releasing all the video would let everyone know exactly where the cameras are located). If this goes to trial (it may or may not, a guilty plea is a pretty obvious possibility), more will be revealed. But not everything. It's pretty rare that every detail is made public. I find it pretty disgusting (not surprising) that the alt-right is going straight down the 'dumbass' rabbithole, trying to make Pelosi the aggressor. Trying to pretend that their own fucking rhetoric isn't responsible for this idiot attacking someone. One a side note, Seen elsewhere (paraphrased): It's becoming more and more apparent that the alt-right considers these fools 'useful idiots' to be used and discarded. The Jan 6 insurrectionists got to see Steve Bannon pardoned, while they sit in jail or prison. The fool that attacked Pelosi got wound up by all his 'friends', was so deeply conned that he committed multiple felonies, and is now being called a 'gay prostitute' by those who were responsible for his brainwashing.

I do as well, and I value viewpoints like yours and Biguns even if I disagree with many of them. (That's also one reason we tolerate some of the more trollish posters - they may not add much useful content, but they do help keep the place from being too homogenous.)

Wait, I thought you’re not saying anything was faked? Grow a fucking spine and say what you fucking think. You have the gall to talk about useful idiots when you’re doing nothing but spreading conspiracist bollocks?

So I googled it and, in addition to some interesting pop-up's, fucknancy.com is available. Anybody looking for a recession proof gig should think about it.

Right, the GOP have treated McCain and his family fucking disgracefully since he was a candidate, so what hope does anyone else have?
  12. 1 point
John McCain would very possibly have won if he hadn’t chosen a “fuck you liberals” running mate. Not a good look for bringing us together. In 2000 the Republicans had the opportunity to nominate him and look how he was treated. Wendy P.

Jerry are you off your meds again? chill. I went through Sprague Electric with a fine tooth comb and their TiSb capacitor patent and couldn't develop any leads to aerospace, the PNW, etc. and never any commercial application for it. So no he wasn’t a radio repairman :)

Hi Keith, Re: I am looking for a leader that can work toward unifying both parties. I like to be optimistic, but I wonder if there is one. I'll continue to stay hopeful. Possibly Gavin Newsom or Paul Ryan. That's one from each major party with, IMO, neither from the extremes. I am fairly certain that both are planning on a run for POTUS. Anybody else with a suggestion or two? Jerry Baumchen

I think the biggest problem we have is people don't read to any level of depth anymore.

Several things are going on.. people have a confirmation bias, that is human nature and everyone has to watch for it.. and people are not interpreting the evidence correctly.. also, people will over reach for solutions to solve an unexplained difficult case. There is a massive amount of information to process.. These drive me crazy.. smart people still get them wrong. Cooper's initial demand was airstairs lowered in flight.. NOT DOWN. Airstairs down came later after negotiations and Reno was in play. His initial plan was not to jump ASAP.. his plan changed. Ratazcak was hand flying the plane.. he said so.. and he acknowledged his path on the "FBI" map. NO WESTERN FLIGHTPATH. and the Columbia River jump is debunked.. the call to Soderlind was in the suburbs before Portland and Soderlind took notes live... Cooper jumped around the 8:12 time.. Cooper was described as having latin features and complexion, that does not mean he wasn't also white or Caucasian. People incorrectly believe he can't be both,,, Latin Americans and Spanish were described as white or caucasian back then.. Latino became an official descriptor after NORJAK.. Cooper was not wearing a disguise. Cooper had dark eyes. Cooper did not fake smoking. Cooper was described as having latin features and complexion, NOT A TAN. Cooper did not know where the plane would be when he did jump. Dynamite did come in red. Cooper did not write on his ticket. The crew was not in on it. The FBI does not know if the unidentified prints are Cooper's. REMCRU patent was not the only source for TiSb in the ratio found on the tie. NOBODY plants or buries money at the River's high water line. Tina is being deceptive. The tie was not sold before spring 1964.. roughly between Spring 64 - Spring 65. The FBI was looking for the wrong back parachute. Cooper appeared to be 45-50. He was not 28. Several witnesses admitted that their memories were fading years after the hijacking. In '76 the FBI admitted that the witnesses were unreliable and only Cooper confessing would bring a prosecution. The cigarette butts were destroyed after testing within weeks of the hijacking. The hair sample was lost/misplaced. Oddly, Sketch A was mostly Tina who later claimed she didn't see Cooper face straight on.. Sketch B was a multi image process based on KK5-1 and input from all witnesses. They generally agreed on the final sketch B as the best likeness for Cooper. The Hick's placard was not from inside NORJAK, it could have fallen off the outside of any passing 727. The 8x40" part claimed to have been found in the woods was not from NORJAK.

Oh yea, and three pilots (one a WW2 vet) who were trusted with the lives of thousands of people over the years did not really know where they were. Also, people who saw him multiple times over the course of a couple of hours could not describe him. What else? He was 28. He was an expert with the 727 (even though he could not operate the stairs). He knew the area because he figured Tacoma was on the flight path and that McChord was 20 miles/minutes from the airport. Blue eyes is another one. What I can't figure out is if people just want to throw a wrench in things, or they want to be heard, or whatever. I don't know. As much as we don't know about the case, we do know a lot.

Don't forget 300 of the 10,000 bills were found at Tina Bar, so that means he jumped over the river and landed at Tina Bar, which means Western Flight path too. Actually, he would have had to jump south of the river given the winds.

Chaucer stated on Reddit.. Bill Rataczak stated to the FBI just hours after the hijacking that “they had definitely not reached Portland proper but were in the suburbs or immediate vicinity thereof” when the jump occurred. Combine this with Soderlind’s statement about them seeing the lights of Portland, you get a jump near the Columbia IMO This is 100% false and shows why the Columbia River landing BS won't die.... Ratazcak was giving a range between last contact with Cooper at 8:05 and the call to Solderlind in the suburbs of Portland.. So, Ratazcak was referring to the call to Solderlind in the suburbs of Portland and we know Cooper jumped minutes before that.. It is evidence that Cooper could not have jumped over the Columbia but Chaucer and others have misread the evidence and use a false premise to create a false conclusion... Chaucer and others have flipped the evidence backasswards to fit their Columbia River confirmation bias.. This is a very important point to get right.

It has to be "we" over "me" for us to unify as a nation and minimize the ever-widening gap between our parties. In 1982, Reagan and O'Neill were not only polar opposites, but some would say enemies. Yet, when the economy was tanking, not unlike now, they sat down together and came up with the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982. Both sides gave a little ground and "we" worked together. "We" need to do that again. I am looking for a leader that can work toward unifying both parties. That can focus on the US' future. 1. If Trump winds up on the ticket, a) I will not vote, and b) I will probably change to the Independent Party, sit in the jacuzzi, sip on some bourbon, and every once in awhile roll over on my stomach so the world can kiss my ass. Thank you for the compliment.

First, you have no right to see the video. A clip would have to be released with the Pelosi’s consent or leaked. And I can quite easily understand why placating you isn’t Nancy’s priority right now. Second, you can’t play both sides on this. You are who you say needs to be shut down. You are talking about yourself.

Get up to speed would you? He is suggesting that DePape was a prostitute hired by Pelosi and that they had a quarrel. The glass was then smashed from the inside to make it look like a break in and to cover up Mr. Pelosi's sexual adventure. REALLY, that is what is being pedaled here and airdvr seems to be willing to allude to this sickening bullshit. Very disappointing because sometimes he seems to mostly be reasonably normal.

No. I have thoughts on how far down the Alex Jones rabbit hole you have to be to think this was all faked, but you don’t want to hear them.

So - no developing nuclear weapons until someone else gets them first. No land grants for railroads until the country's economy is dead last. No public roads until horses, helicopters, rockets, ziplines, giant catapults and canals have failed. No money for public health until everyone is sick or dead. No money for space exploration until China owns low Earth orbit. No environmental regulation until everyone is, again, sick or dead. Sounds great! I mean, after all, what has the federal government ever done for us?

    I get that. But I don't think it's a lot of money.

To have a product sitting on the shelf, the manufacturer most absorb the cost of the good well in advance of collecting the revenue. Investing a lot of money into something that might sell someday is not as efficient as dedicating resources to something which has already sold (e.g. orders). And in this little world, resources are thin. The quick-delivery business model works super well...in industries that have high volume. Skydiving is not that type of industry. Could they stock a ton of inventory for quick delivery to all the "whiners" out there? Totally. But it would add cost to the end product. How do "whiners" feel about that?

anyone remember the old MAD-TV skit of the Asian lady who could only ever say "he look like a man" when trying to describe someone? I swear I hear that woman's voice saying "He...look like a man" every time I'm reading witness descriptions.

I think we are too used to amazon and instant gratification. Skydiving is a niche sport and uses niche items. 4 weeks, especially when they said it would be 4 weeks, does not seem unreasonable. Even two weeks to get in stock items does not seem crazy to me.

The same thing that is going on in aircraft industry. It is small, it is specialized, and it is just beginning to come out of big time disruptions of material supply and labour shortages. Try ordering an oil filter for a Cessna 182, or replacement fuel bladders. Or enough parts for an engine rebuild. Or even new tires in some cases. Four weeks will then seem like almost nothing.

what are your suggestions to replace them? it's very easy to flip the jargon in the definitions the way they are, but they don't even say cutaway and are about as easy to understand as a legal definition of something. students get lots of things mixed up, that's why we need to continue to drill them on the things they need to know to survive, not change the terms for them. we need to change the official definition for sure, but not the words themselves. you don't change something that has worked for 99.995% of the group so that a new member doesn't have to learn the terms we all use. not unless you have a really good replacement in mind that everyone else will remember or you just trade the problem from one group to another.
  38. 1 point
I also hate these terms.. even with consistent definitions, it's very easy for new jumpers to just flip the jargon around, and understand the wrong thing. I think this is one of those areas where the sport's military drilling style of training sometimes falls short. Whenever I get asked about "hard decks" or "decision altitudes", rather than just spit out numbers I just try to reply in complete sentences, eg I will deploy my main at minimum at X. If I find myself in freefall below that I will deploy my reserve directly. If a malfunction looks fixable I'll try until Y, but then chop immediately no matter if I've almost solved the problem. I will not cutaway a mal below Z, I'll either ride it in or deploy my reserve in addition to the main. It's good to think about these and choose your own altitudes, but also understand that depending on the day, place, and jump some may need to be adjusted.
