2 pointsData, except in Star Trek, is not an animated being. Wherever you went to school we need to go and get your money back. And, after a few questions, we might also need to beat their asses.

2 pointsYes, it missed the mark by miles. Yes healthcare is expensive. I'm not sure why you think it is pork though. In Canada healthcare is the single largest government expenditure. Healthcare in total is 12.7 % of our GDP. $8,017 CAD per person. In the US it is 19.7% of GDP. 12,500 USD per person. 4.1 trillion in 2020. You are being ripped off and your politicians are being paid to keep it that way.

2 pointsACA was the best solution available given the continual and continuous sabotage inflicted by the GOP. The sabotage continues to this day in the states that refuse to expand Medicaid, thus punishing their own residents simply to "own the Libs". The data on health outcomes and healthcare debt are unambiguous and overwhelming.

1 pointI'd forgotten I put the population increase in the bulleted list. It's going to happen, but it will be at a reduced rate (the reduced rate is good). Note that most countries' economies are scaled for an ever-increasing population. That'll have to be reworked. In 50 years, when the baby boomers are pretty much all gone, this will be a different country in some ways. Wendy P.

1 pointDon't forget insurance companies. They'll all be radically reduced with universal health care. Wendy P.

1 pointThe "Dan Cooper" comics were published for Latin America in Spanish by a Mexican publisher. I haven't found all of the editions they published but some were published in 1966/67. Clearly, Cooper was described as Latin/Mexican swarthy etc.. and demanded to fly to Mexico... if there is a comic connection it would be more likely to be to this version.

1 pointAgree wih most of that with a few comments. Gasoline will be similar to diesel now - available many places, but not in high demand. It will be very cheap due to the low demand. Coal will see more use as a raw material than a fuel, which will solve 90% of the problems with its use. Most of our energy will come from solar and wind, but the improvement in resilience will come from intelligence and storage. Local storage, local generation, the ability to intentionally island and the ability to do accurate demand response will make the grid immune to most disasters and attacks. The efficiency thing is an important one. Traditionally energy use per person has been a sign of quality of life, but it's important to note that what we care about is the work done by every joule. In the future, quality of life will improve while energy use per person decreases. As a simple example, LED bulbs give more light, and far more heat, than incandescents - but use about 10% of the energy. The population thing will be the big challenge. We run into limits of growth quickly if the population keeps growing. That's why Tostan and Camfed are two of the bigger charities I support - because they fund women's education. and that's the #1 way to reduce birthrate voluntarily. (And also why many governments oppose it.)

1 pointOnce again, Brent shows that he doesn't understand the simple concepts of finite vs infinite. It's embarrassing - This is something my 5 year old gets.

1 pointWe are talking about healthcare. Yes publicly funded healthcare is socialism. Publicly funded schools are socialism. Publicly funded fire departments are socialism. The list can get longer. Some people claim healthcare is a basic right. I would not go that far myself, but I would say that nations which invest in it have better results for less money than yours does. And it adds a certain quality of compassion to society and even takes a lot of stress away from the middle class who always end up paying for everything. They are both Peter and Paul.

1 pointNo. Cooper's money was taken from an extortion fund set aside for emergencies, which only consisted of US Currency. No pesos, only American currency. Was covered years ago ............................................. banks do stockpile different currencies (optional) depending on demand but that had nothing to do with the fund Cooper's ransom was paid from ...

1 pointHi folks, Alexey Sharadkin owns Sky Wide Systems in Kyiv, Ukraine. SWS - Skydiving gear Over the years, Alexey and I have exchanged many PM's & emails; usually regarding parachute equipment. He has asked that I post this letter from him here: Hello. Oleksiy Sharadkin, I am the owner of SkyWideSystems company, and I have been a SOF operator since February 24. As you might know, on February 24 Russia attacked our country. Due to the differences in size, economies and human resources foreign military experts gave us a week ( the ruscists planned to hold a parade in Kyiv on the 4th day), but we have already been fighting for 49 days. We repulsed the offensive and drove the enemy back to the border in the Kiev, Chernigov and Sumy regions. You will find more information about the war on my FB page The situation is not so bad in a military sense thanks to the military assistance of the allies. We are no longer talking about the conquest of Ukraine. We are fighting in the east and in the south, reclaiming our land. The only one problem is that there are a lot of Russians, and elimination of them takes a lot of time. During this time they can cause irreparable harm to civilians in the occupied territories. You might have seen photos from Bucha. They are awful. The worst thing is that this is happening in all the territories that have been occupied. My subdivision liberated villages in the north of Ukraine - and I personally saw a raped and hanged 10-11 years old girl. In order to decrease the time of occupation, we need help. Not only the military (the situation here is not that bad, thank you), but also the economic one. I am asking the entire skydiving industry to stop all business with Russia. I am asking material manufacturers to stop selling any materials to Russia, and FOR Russia. Military equipment takes more than 80% of the turnover of Russian parachute manufacturers now! And given that the parachute industry is so small, it will be obvious to any rigger where these materials come from. You don't want to be considered suppliers of the Russian army, do you? I am also asking parachute equipment manufacturers to stop any sales of parachute equipment to Russia and FOR Russia. I am asking you to do this in order to cause the maximum possible damage to the Russian economy. The sale of parachute equipment is a high-margin business. It includes dropzones, shops, dealers, riggers. This is the money turnover and taxes, that help to finance Russian army and the genocide of Ukrainians. This is definitely not the vital kind of business. I'm asking you to do this because the skydive fraternity talks are not working any more. 76% of Russians support the war in Ukraine. It is more than it was in Nazi Germany! Given the size of Russia, and the amount of military equipment left after the Cold War, they will be destroying peaceful Ukrainians in the occupied territories for a very long time before we kill all of them. Therefore, I am asking you to strike at the Russian economy, to make them think about the food for their families, but not about the rape. To make them return to their home and leave Ukraine. You may ask: "what does the sale of one parachute mean for the economy"? Perhaps, nothing, or ,perhaps, it might matter a lot. Such kind of letters are now written to all businesses operating in Russia. Those letters are already working against the Russian economy and are destroying it. Of course, one parachute sold will not destroy the Russian economy, but it will show your attitude towards the genocide in Ukraine. There are still some corporations that are trying to do business as usual with Russia or looking for workarounds. You can see them suffer reputational losses, because of that. Even one sold parachute will be noticed by the skydiving community in such a small industry The skydiving community will appreciate the side you took. Please choose the correct side. Help us defeat ruscism! Jerry Baumchen

1 pointOur government is robbing Peter to pay Peter - and often doing a lot of good in the process, something you can ponder next time you drive to work on a publicly funded road, or using the air traffic control system while you are skydiving. Or even just thinking about how we speak English and not German. The problem is that Paul is rich. So while he uses all that stuff that Peter paid for, often Paul pays nothing - and his companies use clever dodges to do the same. Paul is VERY happy with the government, and he wants to keep it that way. So he uses that money to convince all those Peters that the government, rather than Paul, is the problem. Often, as we see here, he succeeds.
-
1 pointWe'll never learn. The government that robs Peter to pay Paul will always have Paul's unwavering support.

1 pointSo I took a look at that list. (Sorry.) One of the first items I came to was a set of programs under the Office of Advanced Fossil Energy R&D. They spent $37 million in 2019 on a total of 14 programs that promoted "efficiency, reliability & flexible operations" in oil drilling and coal mining. This is an example of the "2293 domestic assistance programs" that "help those in need?" I guess if you define "in need" to mean "an oil company executive who is in need of a new yacht" that could make sense.

1 pointHmm. Brent's posts, or 2 1/2 million pounds of horse shit per day? It's a tough choice, considering they are pretty much the same thing.

1 pointTo be a sport I read the article for you. There were actually a couple of interesting ideas that might not be visible in the conservative light spectrum. For example, the idea that you might feel your race shift in reaction to wrongs done to a loved one of another race. Well, obviously that's not happening. What is happening is called sympathy and empathy, the essence of simpatico. So, for some folks it might indeed cause them to feel somewhat more aligned with another humans circumstance. Seems to me that's a good thing. The other bit was how someone might feel if they were discriminated against because they had a name that sounded African American, or perhaps, just happened to live in Cabrini-Green or Harlem. Maybe it wouldn't bother you because it didn't count because you aren't African American but I do believe it would leave me damn angry and feeling as if I were discriminated against racially even though I'm Caucasian. Hmm..
