2 pointsHi Coreece, You going to go into the parachute business? Jerry Baumchen

1 pointIt has been a long time since either Lawrocket or myself have been on this forum. Children and several moves plus a crazy ex-wife have kept us on the ground and wrapped up in our own world. We have settled in beautiful Mendocino for our forever home. While walking on the beach combing for sea glass, admiring the beauty around us, both of us bent over to pick up a piece and upon snapping back, we looked at each other and said, "Remember when we used to skydive?!" Our excitement these days is finding tumbled garbage from forty years ago! We do have a small airport a few miles away and should I find an instructor, I'd like to get flying again. And now for the favor to the skydiving community... There is a male Black Russian Terrier up for adoption in the Akron, Ohio area. He is too big to put on a plane. A service costs in excess of $5K for a dog his size. He is 130 pounds and cannot fit in a 700 size kennel. I'm hoping to form a doggie rescue relay. Thus far, I have a pick up in Akron to Toledo. A brief jaunt from the 90 juncture in Indiana near the Michigan border and a hop between Vail and Grand Junction, CO. The 80 is the straightest way to NorCal. We are about 5 hours away from Sacramento. I was planning to con Gowann (Max) to transfer from Tahoe area to Elk Grove/Sacramento area and meet him for the puppers. Any jumpers traveling west who can pick up some legs and fill in the gaps of the rescue relay? We would be much appreciative. Pick of who will be his older sister. Julia.

1 pointWell, right - that's just because some (not all or most) churches use their tax exempt status to become unofficial political headquarters for various politicians. The argument that religions have fallen back on is "you can't tax us! Goes against the First Amendment." That's a shaky argument but it's been used in the past. But if they are functioning as arms of an election campaign, even that argument is invalid.
-
1 pointThe argument would be that taxes not paid by some are made up elsewhere to provide services all use, including the Church. They don't have their own roads, cops and fire departments, right?
-
1 pointOverall the tax from that group would be much smaller than from the mega evangelical ones. So for myself I would make that trade off.

1 pointHi Wendy, Re: And what is your point about this? Quite often I do a cut-n-paste out of a recent post. Then I do a Slant & Bold to the quote. I'm sure there are some on here who think that this is stupid. IMO this lets people know exactly what I am talking about in any reply. As for this line from your post; I have not a clue as to what you are referring to. Jerry Baumchen PS) About 40 yrs ago, I took a class in Technical Writing. The one thing that stood out for me was: If you write something and the reader does not understand what you wrote, then you wasted your time.

1 pointI can totally see you driving through the Bible Belt talking shit and everyone shouting 'go to hell' in their CB radios, lol. But the people here have nothing to do with that, push back on those that are actually telling you to go to hell on their CB radio rather than taking it out on everyone else that's not. Besides everyone justifies their own evil with some excuse about how they've been wronged.

1 pointIt'll never work, Jerry - Most believe in a God. And, we all know that those who believe in God are idiots for looking up to a sky wizard. No way a bunch of idiots can turn things around. Lift Every Voice Oregon (LEVO) is a coalition of faith-based communities: Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, and other people of goodwill. Our grassroots organization, run primarily by volunteers, is advocating for safer schools, houses of worship, and communities. We now number in the thousands from all over the state in our shared commitment to challenging the status quo as we work towards this important goal. Our voice has been heard by people throughout the state as we push to reduce gun violence in Oregon and the nation.

1 pointI certainly agree that the rise of social media, mass communication and the availability of "information" all play into this. It has led to an overall distrust of information, resulting in the wider availability of knowledge actually making people less smart. How else does one explain groups of people standing at the grassy knoll waiting for JFK Jr. to reveal himself to put Trump back into power? It has also led to a lot more exposure to the ills of society that have always existed. It was much easier to hide from what was wrong and never having to address it. People would likely not have walked up to you and asked for your opinion on racism, or confronted you with their opinions on the faults of Christianity. Yet, obviously on the internet that is all pretty much fair game. The idea of "if you won't say it to somebody's face, don't say it at all" has left a lot unsaid in the past. Things we are now trying to reconcile in many cases. Personally I am of the opinion that a lack of willingness to sacrifice for society's greater good is what ails the west. We seem to only want to make ourselves, or those very identical to us, better and richer. I do believe that this will result in the end of democracy. I do believe the US will very likely have an autocratic ruler within the next 2 decades. To me the only way to change that path is if we find a way to care for those around us, care for the earth we live on and try and understand that a rising tide does lift all boats. But, it requires people to "give things up", maybe even more than somebody else might gain. It requires caring for those who are not like us. Maybe that is what you meant with decency, but I disagree that it is something that existed in the past.
-
1 pointBottom Line: One should treat race, creed, religion. gender, with respect. This country is going to shit for one reason and one reason only - we have lost our sense of decency towards others. We spend more time finding the minority of bad in a group, than we do the majority of good. Two valuable lessons: If you don't have anything nice to say; keep your mouth closed. If you're not willing to say it to their face; then don't say it at all.

1 pointI'd be against that. Some of his tales are NOT for children.

1 pointResponse to the nipply one: Your first jump will be a recurrency. To make sure that you obey your jumpmasters, you'll be required to wear eye shades along with the face mask. The instructors will pull off the eye shades when they deploy you. With a frap hat, the options are endless. I'd go with the standard little blue face shield, and just let freefall blow it off. Then you can wait for it to land and re-use it again. Make sure you weight it appropriately -- you do want it to come back down on the airport, after all. There's a whole new sport of mask accuracy, with people building special accuracy masks, studying the wind currents in detail, and adjusting the mask weight based on the exit altitude and direction. 1 pointAs referenced in another thread, this article gets to the heart of the matter: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/feeling-our-way/202108/the-psychology-wokeism Though adherence to Woke ideology is, as usual, for the best of reasons, it is truly the Road to Hell of which good intentions are made. 1 point"Squeeze risers together and reach up to untwist to bring twists down to the risers?" This worked for me every time, although the "squeeze risers together" is not part of it; it's twisting the twisted section to lower it that is the important element. Usually it will also get your body rotating in the correct way so that it untwists on its own. But by lowering the twists, you can also then reach to the lines above the twists, which allow you good leverage to get your body rotating. This is illustrated pretty well in the compilation video that BMAC615 posted above. (And in the last one shown in that video, apparently you can use your feet, lol!) The old "kick-em out" method in the SIM is pretty poor. They really should replace it with this one.
