    Learn to land... If your parachute is too complicated or temperamental, change for a simpler canopy. In theory, you should be able to land on both legs, at reasonable velocity, with no damage.

    Naw, he's just considering his options out loud rather than alone with his buds. The thing is, that his buds and contemporaries would be giving him different advice than the older people here are -- so he's actually going out for more information. Doesn't necessarily like the answer, but then I don't like some of the answers I get, either Wendy P.

    Let's see if I can remember this off the top of my head .... Back when I was the busiest Rigger Instructor in Canada, I followed CSPA's Rigger A Course outline: Introduction course outline regulations What do riggers do? Basic parachute design and configurations Materials Harness/container components Pilot chutes Deployment devices with emphasis on D-bags Risers and 3-Ring releases Square parachute nomenclature AADs with emphasis on Cypres 2 Packing demonstration (by an instructor) followed by practical exercises Assembling components Minor repairs Equipment selection exercise Written exam Final practical exam Wrap up

    I'm happy to share all the materials I developed for the US Academy of Parachute Rigging, no charge except for acknowledging the source. As for "mentoring," consider asking for, say, $500 per interested student, as a way to screen for those who are willing to make a commitment and will be a joy to teach.
