3 pointsThat's the similar logic that says anti-perspirants cause lymphatic cancer. Or for the vet tech who refused to use lidocaine on my cat's skin five minutes before doing a fluid infusion for fear some of the cream would get under his skin once the needle was inserted. Some injections sting because the vaccine being injected is not compatible with raw muscle tissue. Just like other injections hurt because the viscosity is very high and their injection increases the pressure in the tissue (gamma globulin, anyone?). The alcohol dries before the needle is inserted. That trace amount that might get pushed in by a 25- or 23-gauge needle is insignificant and won't cause a stinging sensation. [/end rant] (sorry, those kinds of myths get under my skin. All pun intended)

2 pointsId advise against in air rigging and going lower than necessary. If you've made the decision to chop - then chop. One thing you can never have enough of is altitude. Would be shitty if you ate up 6k of altitude then had to deal with something on the reserve that required time and altitude. Keep it simple.

2 pointsDon't you just hate it when you are having good clean fun, circling a boat and harassing its passengers for flying a gay pride flag...and then your own boat blows up...and you need to be rescued by the people you were just harassing?

2 pointsWE KNOW! IT's from THAT day. EVERY time - THAT DAY. You keep posting the same hyperlink. For that day. This is exactly what pisses everyone off. You pick one data point out of trend and celebrate that data point like a five year-old that's discovered he can write his name in the snow while peeing.

1 pointSo on the Memorial weekend trump's QAnon little trooper Michael Flynn called for a military coup. he was speaking at a GOP/QAnon Texas conference. Where else could he be on this cherished weekend? While most Americans think about the heroes like Audie Murphy, Alvin York, etc. The GOP and trumpists plot coups. The latest polls state "Fifteen percent of Americans believe that “patriots may have to resort to violence” to restore the country’s rightful order," Meanwhile US Federal Judges warn "Judge Amy Berman Jackson of the United States District Court in Washington wrote: “The steady drumbeat that inspired defendant to take up arms has not faded away. Six months later, the canard that the election was stolen is being repeated daily on major news outlets and from the corridors of power in state and federal government, not to mention in the near-daily fulminations of the former president.” The poll went on to state that only 20% of republicans outright reject QAnon. With the rest prepared to acknowledge its theories are at least partially based in fact. Meanwhile the rest of America is rapidly arming itself in numbers never seen before in all of America's history.

1 pointWell you got me there. Sometimes when the nail is hammered past the flush position. I loose track of whether a finish or spiral nail was in use.

1 pointI disagree to some degree. I give respect to everyone; it’s yours to lose, not gain. There might be additional respect for specific things, but it’s situational, and it’s sometimes reflected in who I ask for information about things. But the respect is my choice, not someone else’s requirement. As far as standing for the national anthem, well, I do because it’s expected. But given the number of people I see who think they determine what some other person should respect, and they’re wearing a US flag in a way that I think shows disrespect, well, it’s just not a currency any more... 1 pointBack on topic, the ongoing chip shortage will actually prompt carmakers to shift more to EVs - although EVs still contain a lot of electronics, they also consolidate the silicon into fewer, larger chips. And fewer of them have to pass the high temperature (+125 C) tests that electronics in the ECU need to pass, for example. 1 pointThis is something I hadn’t thought of: taking a couple wraps and landing with rears. Obviously cheaper than replacing a line. I had considered practicing leaving a brake stowed and landing one rear and one toggle. I might practice you method in good conditions as well - thanks!
-
1 pointRecognizing you haven't practiced landing on rears (and even that is not apples to apples when one side is in half brakes) this type of mal is why I highly recommend and teach to new jumpers to get comfortable with all control inputs as soon as possible. I did something almost identical and I should have known better. I landed my Velo loaded at 2.2 by taking two wraps of the 'good' toggle and landing on rears...however I had years of practice doing so (albeit not in half brakes). It was very natural and soft landing. I would not recommend that to anyone who has not practiced it. At the end of the day, its just money. You landed safely and made the right decision. Live and learn. Good job.
-
1 pointI considered it, but I've never trained for landing on rears and I just wanted to land safely above all else.

1 pointThere were many watching that accident,(myself-Joe D) among hundreds. The skies were filled w/ DC-3’s, 1 on jump run, another on exit, a team in free fall and another landing. The other jumper was Charlie McGurr, aka Magoo. they both were pretty low under 500’ when they entangled, Carl aka Dogeater & Magoo spun in fast, no chance to untangle & were wrapped up pretty tight. Two very tough guys, (like Rocky E). They did exactly as you say, slammed into that old tin roof and that likely saved them both. I remember Carl was selling these really flimsy, lightweight hockey helmets for like $3, I bought one, jumped it for years till it fell apart. His sales pitch was “ it’l keep your hair in place”.. Magoo was a great person, had an artistic flair. He was a really good skydiver, a very talented FF photographer, ex Airborne & a skilled SCUBA diver. He perished from complications following a dive on the Andria Doria, early-mid 2000’s. Carl was a perennial figure in skydiving, always there, involved and being part of something. You knew you were in the company of a “jumper first” character. (Dammit)

1 pointThey don't think it will happen to them. They don't care about other people. This attitude isn't exclusive to the pandmic.

1 pointMaybe for some, but I haven't trained for landing on rears and wasn't interested in winging it. My concern was safety above all else, and once I saw I couldn't fix it the decision was easy.

1 pointMy gear is BOC. But I’ve owned every deployment method I’m aware of: ripcord, FOL, ROL, BOC, pull-out, and shoved into the cavity where the lateral comes out of the container (yes, really), with bungee loops and bights of bridle holding the 2-pin container shut. Any questions? Wendy P.

1 pointIt would be interesting to see if there's any overlap between those who think getting a shot is an infringement on their personal freedoms, and those who think all 18 year olds should be forced to do some kind of national service.
