Agreed. And, even though the district had established a code for cheerleaders which required the members of the squad to “respect their school, coaches, teachers, and other cheerleaders and teams…There will be no toleration of any negative information regarding cheerleading, cheerleaders or coaches on the internet.” She posted a Snap photo of her and a friend holding up their middle fingers with the text, “f*** school f*** softball f*** cheer f*** everything” superimposed on the image. The girls in the image were not wearing their uniforms and did not share the name of the school district. The school district invoked the "cheer code" and dismissed her from the squad. At the hearing, school officials testified that the discipline was imposed because of the student’s use of profanity - out of school, off campus, no identifying school colors or mascots or anything else on their clothes - it was just them "expressing" themselves. From my perspective; the school was caught up in a whirlwind of "let's do something." I think it was overreach on the school's part. Just my opinion.

And at a more fundamental level - homophily exists within all of us. We evolved to have it. Being uncomfortable around people who look different, people who look sick or injured, people from far away with strange ways of talking or acting, people who aren't part of "our tribe" used to be a lifesaving feeling. It warned us that we were in the presence of someone who might do us harm. We see it in four year old children, we see it in educated "woke" people, and we see it on both sides of the political spectrum. That can turn into racism if you are not careful - because people of other races look different. No one is evil for feeling that way; almost everyone does. Where the evil comes in is in not recognizing that for what it is - and not combating it in your daily life.

Ever told a black person "you're so articulate?" Ever tried to defend yourself by saying something like "hey, I never owned slaves!" Ever claimed that white privledge doesn't exist or explained that you have black friends? Used phrases like "I don't see skin color" or "all lives matter?" Complained because of an advantage you perceive blacks having? Ever remained silent when OTHER people said those things? Then you carry some responsibility for the systemic racism that still exists in our culture. This is not an attack on you, and it does not mean you are racist. It means that you are OK with not pushing back against racism. I have done the same thing in the past. I am trying to get better about it, but there are still times when I will hear the "I'm not racist, I have a black friend" and just let it pass.

That's a joke of a suggestion. It's straight out of fantasy. What sfzombie is suggesting is the absolute best possible outcome. You have to consider what happens if the throw misses. Or doesn't distract the assailant enough. Now you've got the same situation with someone getting stabbed and I guarantee you that every single one of you would be on here absolutely CRUCIFYING the officer when that bodycam footage was released.

Agreed. You could quibble about his judgment but there's little doubt that attempting to prevent a stabbing - especially as the assailant is lunging at the victim - justifies deadly force. The better question is how things could have been handled such that deadly force was not needed.

The irony of a right winger moaning about different societal groups failing to respect the value of higher education is fucking brilliant.

Now that the Supreme Court has accepted New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Corlett things will either get vastly worse or somewhat better. Originalists Barrett and Gorsuch will be faced with addressing the historically flawed reasoning Scalia used to craft Heller. If they truly believe that preambles matter and there was no individual right to open carry under English Law things might just open up for some reasonable regulation. I highly doubt either will be true to their professed legal philosophies but then anything is possible.

Racism is a subset of tribalism and exists in all of us.- Ken Gowler

Well said, Ken. After posting that; I thought, "Why do we keep talking about the past instead of planning for the future?"

We all should keep in mind that as bad as slavery in the US was, it was merely a subset of the slavery brought to the new world by all the colonial powers. The people of those nations knew it was wrong all along but it brought in a ton of profits and of course the evil that was and still is the church approved for the same reason. The struggle to be free and equal continues to this day.

Like many Americans you have an emotional attachment to the 2nd. And you won't give it up, I do accept that. But you keep saying that your nation would be lessened and that somehow America would no longer be America without the 2nd. You keep saying you would like to see regulations on firearms that are impossible to imagine under the 2nd. What I am saying is that America would be better, not worse without the pervasive gun culture that the 2nd has produced. Eventually there is going to be a backlash against what the gun culture has done to America. Because too many people have taken what was a good idea 240 years ago and turned it into a farce.

"I have simply lost interest in issues like why Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, which police officers they beat, where they defecated and what they vandalized and looted. It simply does not affect me. And the desecration of those children's remains? I do not pay any attention to things that don't affect me. It is a non issue. But didja hear about how Harris is going to take the USA once the Deep State ousts Biden? I saw it on the Internet! This is BIG NEWS that I am quite informed about, and that affects me very much!"

I’ve only made it to season 3 in the Biden fan-fiction so far so I may be wrong, but I believe the current plot has it that Joe is too senile to run the show himself, and so at any time his handlers may decide to take the power away from their puppet and give it to (competent but evil) Kamala because CONSPIRACY!!!!!

This question might get better served if it were in Gear & Rigging. This is more like the DB Cooper thread and many don't even look in here anymore. Perhaps PM a moderator to see of they can move it or delete it and place it in G&R.

I and a few other guys are trying to identify these two people. If we can get their names... well, that'd be huge. We're hoping to find local sources in Shelton and in Egg Harbor.
