Defunding the police means giving the money they spend on doing things that aren’t police work to people who are trained to do those jobs. Currently the police has to do those jobs because there is no one else to do them, because the police have all the money which they need because they have to do it. And because they’re not very well trained to do those jobs that aren’t really their job, they spend more money to do it worse than dedicated professionals would. For a really simple example check out the last vid of the 8(?) year old girl who was maced in the back of a police car after her family called the cops to report a mental health emergency. There were like 6 squad cars and 20 cops on the scene. Like, how the fuck much does that cost vs one trained and knowledgable on call social worker?

It's a pop music thing. "WAP" stands for 'wet ass pussy'. Cardi B is the artist, and did a (fully dressed) imitation of lesbian sex with another female artist on stage at the Grammy awards show. The conservatives went nuts (predictably). Funny how the word 'pussy' is offensive when preceded by 'wet ass', yet not so when preceded by 'grab them by the'. Yet the first implies consensual activity, while the second is pretty clearly a crime.

Literally no-one made a comment about a comedian, boring or otherwise. You are making up parts of this conversation entirely in your own head and then arguing against them.

Agreed. However, redirecting some of that money (i.e. via a program like Denver's) can also make sense. You end up with fewer armed police (or what we consider today to be police) - but more boots on the ground total, and more ability to deal with mental health issues. Last Thanksgiving we had a guy with some serious mental health problems show up at our doorstep, wearing only pants. He actually asked us to call the police because he didn't know what else to do. Two cops showed up and handled it very calmly and professionally, and they took the guy to the hospital. That was great, but it's also an example of a problem that doesn't need two armed cops to handle.

You do until rhetorical questions are no longer needed to get simple answers from entrenched interests. Bringing a gun to a knife fight, like it's an Indiana Jones movie, is how you should defend your home and family not police the community. Of course, that just leads us back to the railroad track switch for another Sophie's choice: are we better off to sacrifice a few people to citizen on citizen knife attacks if in return we no longer have kids being shot in the back because the local cop didn't want to get his brand new swat team looking uniform dirty chasing him down? Stopping the chase and passing off responsibility to different cops may not be as fun as 100 MPH chases through school zones or emptying your service weapon into a car's rear window but maybe, just maybe, we truly should be organizing police response in layers and training the cops very differently. We shouldn't defund the police; we might even need to give policing more money. That answer isn't obvious. What is obvious is that we currently, and far too often, are not doing things right.

Sadly there is a market for these "creative" news and stories. And it gets disturbing when you realize that these consumers are allowed to vote in the next election.

Biden is a threat to western civilisation. Seriously bro, if your memory is this bad you might want to see a doctor. That's just a lie. That's not just what you do. You share things from crazy right wing media personalities too, then attempt to both stand by their opinions while simultaneousy denying you ever did it. Which again, is really odd behaviour. You're not fooling anyone, and the only person looking dumb as a result is you.... so what's the point?

Hey, I know Martin Andrade reads this board and he is looking into the Egg Harbor suspect, so I thought I would ask here if he (or anyone else) can compile the new information about the EHS from the latest 302s? I first heard of him from here https://martinandrade.wordpress.com/2020/11/24/db-cooper-the-fbis-unresolved-suspects/ and it seems like we have some new info - I am pretty sure the same guy is mentioned a few times in the latest release, but I am not very confident in my ability to interpret the files accurately.

Seems to be working out with Texas. Fewer dead and more folks employed as a percentage than California (you know you have lost the argument when you invoke mythical creatures from a sci-fi tv show)

Interesting that you think that the fact that he served the Obama administration (in Energy) means he was a complete believer in AGW. Obama liked having some opposing views. Koonin is widely respected, and is part of the scientific community. As such, his opinion should be part of the discussion. And, from an article about him in the WSJ: So in other words, he's part of the discussion, and thinks that over-the-top rhetoric by people who are not scientists isn't helping things. He's not just sticking his fingers in his ears and going "ni-ni-ni-ni-ni." Wendy P.

I’m late to the discussion. I do have a formed opinion on the matter as a wingsuit’er with a lot of experience and having been in charge of safety in this area in my country. My opinion is basically simple. Reserve: pls go by the wl chart of the manufacturer and stay within the recommended range and do not exceed it. Yes it means a larger chute for most people, due to the fact that people think it is smart to go small, weighs less, looks neat etc etc. It can be problematic if the jumper also e.g. is a freeflyer and want to have a small compact rig, but there you have it... so maybe own two rigs.... or go for the larger option if you want to avoid spinning reserves as a result of an unstable WS cutaway. It has happened many times this way. Even with mega experienced WS’ers. I remember one recent chilling video posted by a Red Bull WS pilot cutting, then having a small Optimum reserve twisting and then going down in crazy spins. He got out of the twists seconds before landing. Be smart. Go big.

The man was physically in close contact with Floyd as he lost consciousness and his life ended. I believe that it would be impossible for a man with Chauvin's experience not to realize what was happening. Many of the witnesses did. At some point during the event he realized that death was imminent and he made a decision to finish the job. Because he wanted to, and felt that he could get away with it. It was murder.

Depends on how you define media, and how you define standards. I have a feeling that some of our media will fawn over Biden, just as some of our media fawned over Trump. Some of them will find only the negative, just as some only found the negative in Trump. There will be fewer criticisms of norm-breaking because, well, Biden isn't nearly the norm-breaker that Trump was (and wanted to be). There is unlikely to be the lie count, because Biden doesn't come up with statements that are clearly falsifiable nearly as much. He doesn't reject the mainstream media, nor does he reject the right wing media -- they'll be invited to his pressers, and have their questions answered. I doubt there will be a lot of scrutiny of antifa as an organization (because it isn't). And Biden is unlikely to call on them to help him. Wendy P.
