15 fucking years of this same circular discussion. It's like dealing with someone who really really needs rehab. They're never going to learn another way until they are receptive to another way. I just can't do this anymore, so I'm going to AL-AGAW. It's a safe place for me to understand why the loved ones of us who come to AL-AGAW are in despair, feeling hopeless, unable to believe that things can ever change. We want our lives to be different, but nothing we have done, said, shared or tried has brought about change in those we love that are deniers. The deniers come from all walks of life; young or old, rich or poor, man or woman. Deniers are mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, children or grandparents, whose denial causes pain and fear for all who love them.

I take such chances knowing you'll come for me. It's a comfort.

To add, before the pro-pack, canopies were often flat packed where the canopy was laid on its side. Hence why the focus of this packjob was that the canopy is kept facing forward the whole time. Then of course there is the psycho pack....

Good point. And to clarify, the real point is that it doesn't just make noise when you're supposed to break off, but is saying things all the way down. That's why one would notice early if there's a problem with it.

Objection! PDs and Optimums are the same size. They're measured in the same way. And no, PD has not misnamed their reserves, they are exactly the size they are labelled, when measured by PD's method.

Hi there, here's a beginner's question. I'm around jump #50 and the chief instructor at my home DZ recently encouraged me to move from the Navigator 200 to the Silhouette 170. I jumped it 3 times so far, in strong winds as well as in no-wind conditions, and it was great. Now, here's my question: while I completely trust the instructor's assessment and have indeed encountered no problems with the Sil 170, I'm puzzled by PD's "official" wing loading chart (here it is: http://www.performancedesigns.com/silhouette.aspx) which would suggest that I fly at least size 230! (My exit weight is 180 lbs.) I've already read other people's comments on this forum stating that "the Silhouette flies small" - which only puzzles me further. Shouldn't it be desirable for a canopy to "fly big"? what's the use of 170 sq ft of canopy in your backpack if it flies like, say, a 150? Thanks for your time & your thoughts, Andrei

After a day at the DZ I went to a store to get some energy drinks for the drive home and saw an energy drink called "Frappio". I laughed and thought they probably don't sell much of that to jumpers! Anyway, it got me wondering--anyone have any good explanations for where the word "frap" came from? Walt

Unless you have a total. Then you've still got your main... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Just a minor point - if you cutaway the main the total weight has dropped by 6-8lbs. Not enough to make up for a 20ft drop, but not as bad as it would seem otherwise.
