This was almost a year ago and still today Doctors are trying just about anything to save lives. Sounds like the new protocol is monoclonal antibodies and ivermectin. I absolutely concede that one can do that, but it's not how it's phrased and it's very much not the framing the author is using to reinforce their agenda. Dan is framing any liberal reaction as emotionally based (or worse, as virtue signaling theatre), and the conservative one as rational and reality-based. The message he is trying to instill in the reader is that any liberal reaction cannot be based in reason, and vice versa that the conservative view always will be - this is not only false, it's just plain fucking dumb. It would be just as dumb for me to say that conservatives are incapable of empathy. He's doing this to lend weight to his fallacious conclusion that lockdowns don't work. They do, if you have leadership that's willing to do the hard work and a populace who are willing to take up their share of the responsibility. The bigger takeaway question here really should be - why was America lacking in both?

in essence, most of the us could have been shut down, had the government paid us instead of paying the companies who forced us to stay at work. masks and 6 ft distance has been proven to stop the spread of covid19, so the places that could not shut down could have stopped it from spreading if everyone who was there wore masks. since most of the population is stupid as hell and had more concern for themselves and their imagined injustices rather than concern for stopping the disease or for others, we are facing yet another lockdown that will do nothing. thanx for helping the idiots brent.

While the first part is correct, DeSantis did fuck up by not having the elderly tested and took a whack-a-mole approach (Outbreak- React) to outbreaks in the nursing facilities. There were some nursing homes that couldn't get the proper PPE even after requesting it from the Governor's office - not even masks. Look up Seminole Nursing facility. Complete goat-fuck. And, you're right - "EVERYONE knows that the elderly are particularly vulnerable to pathogens of any sort," and they should know that the caretakers and medical professionals are the ones who pass the pathogens on to the elderly. According to the Florida Healthcare System; there have been 7,000+ confirmed deaths from the virus among residents and staff at long-term care facilities. There's 50 Governor's who did not do well There's an entire world of countries who made mistakes. Nursing homes are part of the national emergency response framework and shifting sick people out of hospitals and into nursing homes that are not needing emergency critical care is part of that framework.
