4 pointsWell, I lucked out this evening. My wife the MD finally got to the top of the list and I drove her to the clinic where they were doing the vaccinating. After her dose they had 5 shots left out of an allotment of 60 for today, all spoken for. Once each carton (10 doses) is opened they have to use them all or discard any unused. Then someone on the list called in and cancelled, and by then I was the only unvaccinated person left in the clinic. SO I got their last remaining dose for the day and an appointment for the second shot next month.

4 pointsHey, Joe, The military draws its personnel from the same society it serves. We have our own issues dealing with personnel who can't treat each other with dignity and respect. We always say that it is our job to protect citizens' rights to think whatever they want to think, so I don't really take offense to whatever loyalty or motivation is questioned (or touted). What does worry me as a leader -- now and throughout my career -- is ensuring the personnel under my charge are upholding their own oaths and commitments to the Constitution and the UCMJ, as well as learning to work with their teammates from all walks of life and cultures that make up the country. It's a challenge, even on the small scale we deal with in the Marine Corps; but it's what we've been charged to do as leaders of Marines. I may never rid a Marine of his or her bigotry (for whatever they don't like), but I can ensure they act with integrity and respect for the mission, unit, and society we serve. (Did anyone else hear patriotic music in the background as they read that? Sorry for the recruiting commercial! )

2 pointsNo. The parties need to take back control over what they claim they represent. GOP used to be the party of smaller government, fiscal responsibility, states' sovereignty and personal responsibility. They claimed to be the standards of the law and the Constitution. Law/Constitution? 197 Republican members of the House just voted against holding the president accountable for his inciting an insurrection. Personal responsibility? See above. Also see Sen. Ted Cruz's comments about Donald Trump 1) during the 2016 primaries, then 2) during the 2016 election, then 3) during this election cycle, and 4) after the insurrection. State sovereignty? How many members of each house still tried to object to the electoral votes of states they did not represent even after the insurrection? Fiscal responsibility? Why is it that the debt grows exponentially in GOP administrations, and either starts to shrink (or at least slows its growth) under DNC administrations? What's going on there? (maybe someone else can help me out by filling in the hypocrisy of the smaller government platform) Bottom line: the GOP allowed Donald Trump to put an "R" behind his name when he filed his candidacy for the nomination, and allowed him to keep it for the second election, even though he violated most of not all of the values the GOP has stood on for decades. The parties need to enforce their own basic platform to their own members.

2 pointsYou want to see what Ron’s ‘Patriots’ are saying? Amazon released a selection of Parler posts as an example of their lack of moderation on the platform. https://www.theverge.com/2021/1/13/22228675/amazon-parler-takedown-violent-threats-moderation-content-free-speech Calls to execute police. Teachers. Black and Jews - not just ‘liberal leadership’. Very fine folk, right? Let the healing begin! Unity for everyone! Fuck RIGHT off. The right wing government we’ve had has done more for extremism, racism and nationalism than any time since the rise of the Nazi party. And no, that’s not a fucking exaggeration. Every single Republican voter and politician should be saying ‘what we’ve been seeing lately from Trump supporters is unacceptable.’ It’s that simple. There is no whatabout-ism that’s REMOTELY comparable. It’s not an Antifa plot and you know it. It’s your side behaving like actual, real facists. And yet you won’t disown them. To try and pass the responsibility on makes you cowards and culpable in the outcome.

2 pointsIf you storm the fucking Capitol there have to be consequences. If you support that action or incite it, there HAVE to be consequences. You don't get to try and overthrow democracy and just go 'Why won't you be friends?? I just want to move on together! You're so MEAN! waaaahhhhhhh'. Jesus. I've never seen such a bunch of whiners. And they call those on the left 'snowflakes'.... I thought the Republican party was all for personal responsibility? Letting it go is what will make a bad situation worse. There's a reason the policy of every major government and police force is not to negotiate with terrorists or blackmailers - they think they can get away with it and so they do it again and step it up the next time. So yes. Find those guilty. Make an example of them within the law, no matter how high or low they are in the political structure. Slap them all down as hard and fast as fucking possible. This is what the American Government does with insurrectionists, is going to be the message. We'd better make sure it's a good one.

1 pointBack when I was a wuffo there was a book circulating my home DZ. "United we fall", I always wanted to get a copy but never did but now have it. Wish I would have purchased it back then, like most of the jumpers I knew was on a tight budget. Anyway, I'm wondering if this is still recommended reading? I find this thing to be full of great tips and advise and would be ideal for beginner RWs. That's my two cents. Oh, and it's great history for the younguns out there. Cosmic

1 pointA friend posted the attached humourous piece on Facebook. Thought the folks here might appreciate a guffaw!

1 pointThat makes sense! They went out and got neo-Nazi tattoos, gained 200 pounds and bought all those flags just to LOOK like typical Trump supporters. That's the only explanation possible. As a side note, imagine going back to 1990 and telling people that, 30 years in the future, Arnold Schwarzenegger would be using Conan's sword to condemn Donald Trump for launching an insurrection, led by overweight neo-Nazis and white supremacists, to take over the Capital building and install him as a dictator. People would say "that's too absurd even for whatever movie you are talking about."

1 pointFunny how all the people that hate 'political correctness' are the ones who were protected by that 'institutionalized power' thing. You know, the people who used to be immune from consequences of being rude or inappropriate.

1 pointMy wife (MD) does "vaccinator training" today. I got a shot yesterday because otherwise it would have gone to waste after the intended recipient bailed and I happened to be in the right place at the right time. Clinic said if I hadn't been there it would have had to be discarded.

1 pointMemes aren’t helpful - they’re a lazy shorthand for actual analysis. Especially ones with fire in the background. Maybe as humor, maybe as one-sentence commentaries, but not for anything complex. It frankly speaks more to the “bogeyman” and “doesn’t know her place” attitude that it’s all women, and mostly minority, represented there. Wendy P.

1 pointI said the same to a friend just today. In a lot of values I'm pretty conservative. The Republican party doesn't represent conservative values anymore.

1 pointI do. Same as you do. SHTF is always right around the corner. When every last thing you believe is crumbling around you it's time for reflection. Go ahead and cherry pick out abortion, in spite of settled science, and also cherry pick out immigration, in spite of the proven economic benefits and what you have left with us is a bunch of people who just want better for their fellow man. Not because of Jesus but simply because it's the right way to live. We don't need a moral leader because we have a moral compass that shows us the path. That's who Liberals are, Ron. We aren't a pejorative term, we're human beings who want better for each other. All you need to do is take a step back and you will see that truth.

1 pointNothing, absolutely nothing-real or imagined-that has previously occurred is in any way, shape or form equatable with the President of the United States fomenting insurrection against the United States by encouraging American citizens to storm the Capitol of the United States of America with the intent to create chaos and destruction so as to overturn the legitimate election of a new President of the United States. That, however, is exactly what you are saying and, frankly, it's your credibility that is being destroyed not ours. Please reconsider your position.

1 pointThat's some Grade-A primo bullshit right there. It's a helluva leap to compare the BLM protests over the summer to what happened at the Capital last week. Even after you make that stretch, to say that there was 'not a peep from the left' with respect to the vast minority of people who used those protests as an excuse to loot and vandalize is just a straight-up fucking lie. Every single major figure in the Democratic Party went out of their way to condemn the violence and looting. You say you're middle of the road, I guess you're talking about the road from Fox to OANN?

1 pointI just pushed my grandmother down the basement stairs. My parents want to call the police, but I don't think the family could come together if they do that.
-
1 pointMaybe he is done tomorrow, but eventually we will have to deal with the sycophantic reality challenged electorate that are willing to kill or die for the waste of skin and oxygen that we've called a president for the last four years.

1 pointSorry for the policy violation, totally understand.

1 pointI just got a canopy from him. It was fine. The canopy came from Georgia, but the bank (and i assume previous owner) were somewhere else. Wendy P.
