3 pointsNobody wants to be associated with Thiokol. They take the blame in the public eye. But the fact is their people warned NASA and tried to stop the launch. But they would not listen.

3 pointsEverybody, this is not the place to discuss what emergency procedures should be -- take that to Instructors. This is a useful thread on how to adapt to left-handed and one-handed use, let's keep it to that please. Wendy P.

2 pointsThis is why you need to talk this with your instructor. A consistent practice from your instructor, in a reputable program, is very important, as it forms the basis of some of your decisions. In the long run it's not exactly how you'll do it (gear will change -- I learned with entirely different gear), but in the short run what you practice and rehearse is what you'll do if you need it. And folks, this is why the discussion on what are appropriate emergency procedures belongs elsewhere. It's a valid discussion, and should be held and reviewed regularly. Just not here. Wendy P.

1 pointHi Jerry, Or when the president's personal attorney asked for one. On a slightly different note: Dan Rather on FB:

1 pointI like to grab and peel red before swinging my eyes to look at silver. Then I keep my eyes on silver as I pull red. Toss red. # Put both hands on silver and pull silver to full arms' extension. Resume arch. Look over shoulder to confirm that reserve pilot-chute is leaving. Footnote# I teach students to toss red to confirm that they have pulled it to full arms' extension. The only difference with my personal gear is hanging onto red. With tandems, I just toss handles with gay abandon until I have a landable canopy overhead. The School can worry about replacement handles.
-
1 pointTrue, but not finding the reserve handle after pulling the cutaway handle is in most cases mitigated by having RSL. Skipping the cutaway because you looked at the reserve handle before can cause two-out. I'm talking here only about students, FJC, etc. If you have loads of experience, you can triage problems better, have better awareness and decide what's right for you with the gear you're using and a situation you're in.

1 pointIt should be noted that this is one way that the echo chamber generates news. Someone says "Here's a picture of Biden molesting a little girl! Her parents confirmed it!" And the news goes viral. FOX does a story on it. OAN does a story saying "Journalist confirms that parents are outraged that Biden molested a little girl." FOX News then does a story on "OAN reporter confirms . . ." AP does a story on misinformation and cites both those stories. Trump supporters then say "See? EVERYONE says it's true! Even AP is talking about it! What, don't you believe AP?" Meanwhile it turns out that it wasn't her parents who claimed that, it was someone in the comments section of the Facebook post of a Photoshopped picture of Biden. But that's lost in the distant (days ago) mists of the past. And that doesn't matter any more; what matters is what the echo chamber is saying about it. In the OP in this thread, the goal isn't getting the information out there, caveats or not. It is getting exactly one snippet - about how coronavirus isn't really killing many people at all - into that echo chamber.

1 pointAbsolutely!!! I'm hoping it can be resurrected but if it's deemed not air worthy and can not be repaired by my rigger then I'll spend all winter practicing packing parachutes and pulling handles till I can do it in my sleep... I appreciate the advice and you get Karma points for looking out for a new guy!!! Tim

1 pointWhen it comes to Tom Kaye's research, most of the effort is spent trying to explain it away, since it normally directly contradicts coveted theories.

1 pointCash for pardons. Gotta hand it to trump and the GOP. Soon America will be bananas from sea to sea. Hannity urges Trump to pardon himself
-
1 pointYou are really overthinking all that. If you practice 2 hands on 1 handle EPs - that's perfectly fine. Keep it that way. If one day you end up having 1 non-working hand, just adapt and do what you can instead. Pull that handle with any other body part that is capable of pulling the handle.

1 pointIt’s weird to me. Growing up in the UK I heard stories from my grandparents about what it was like for civilians in WWII. Rationing. Blackouts. Travel restrictions. Air raids. All that stuff. They SACRIFICED as a country. They had to, and they got through it. Whereas our country isn’t willing to just suck up wearing a mask and maybe not traveling for the holidays for a single year... Its really not a lot to ask in the big scheme of things.

1 pointThe underlying problem here is that you are giving your own personal guess more credence than the educated opinions and conclusions of experts. If at the end of the day you're going to choose to ignore references cited by others, not cite any yourself, and stick to your own beliefs without any justification, why bother posting in the first place? It's completely astounding to me that you think you have the knowledge and skills to make such an inference. Why bother with virology and epidemiology when we have you? Aside from that, your thought process is flawed: 1) You've arbitrarily predicted (and stated as fact) that the outcomes of COVID will be (or "are", as if this is retrospective) similar to those of SARS, for reasons you haven't explained 2) You've been presented with scientific evidence that the outcomes of COVID are different from SARS 3) The only reasonable conclusion is that you were wrong at (1), yet somehow you conclude the opposite. That's not an argument--that's a statement of belief with nothing to back it, and it's wrong. You believe it because it seems intuitive, but intuition does not equal truth. You've already been provided with two specific example diseases that start as a mild viral infection but then later on become much more severe and even deadly. And you've been moving the goalposts, too. First it was "organ damage", then it was "organ failure", then you got called out on that and moved it to "severe organ damage".

1 pointI'm not sure about your actual question, but I think it's worth mentioning that you might consider changing your rig to a left-handed deployment. Even if you get full range of motion back, you may end up with an increased risk of dislocating the same shoulder.

1 pointThere's actually two Windy apps and I like to use both of them. The blue Windy (when paid) gives you wind and precipitation from multiple models on a single chart. The red Windy has nice meteogram view so you can see clouds over altitude. It can also show you cameras on some places so you can see what the sky looks like semi-real-time. Weather & Radar is good for checking the clouds on the map to know what's the next few hours gonna look like. SpotAssist is great to check wind speed/direction over altitude.

1 pointI'll second David's suggestion of US AirNet. My understanding is that it's just a graphic representation of the NWS data. So it's the same forecast you'd get from Flight Service or any other government weather (NOAA, ect). This is the Green Bay WI weather (local to me), but you can pick & choose any location in the US (can pick by city/state or ICAO identifier). http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?Submit=Go&sta=KGRB&state=WI

1 pointI use three apps/websites: US Air Net (Aviation weather & Air Sports Net) Windy (this is a nice app to track wind) AccuWeather Perris, California Blue Skies!!
