That was the US Air Force uniform during the War of 1812, right?

ha. sure. my post doesn't read quite as i intended; i didn't mean to imply that being religious would exclude those things. that reminds me of my mother who likes the first question and answer to her church's catechism. the Westminster, which allows for a little fun.

I have a disabled friend who lives alone; he called me yesterday to say his friend Bill had died Wednesday at 91. Ya know, that’s a good long life. He helped his neighbors (checked on my friend and helped him often, read to and bought food for another neighbor with macular degeneration), ser himself up for old age (had two guys with marginal skills living in his house to save on bills and lift heavy things when needed). He’d been a garden water feature contractor when he was younger — knew a lot of Houston glitterati (including Hedy Lamarr when she lived there in the mid 50’s). He was a throwback to an era when everyone knew their neighbors, and liked it that way. I have no idea on any of his life outside of his relationship with my friend, but it was probably consistent Frankly, we could all do a whole lot worse than to hope we can be like Bill; useful, with purpose, and part of a caring community. Anybody else remember how the right wing folk lost their shit over the "Jade Helm" exercises during the Obama administration? Where are they now?

Ben Shapiro - it “suggests all pathways to success — hard work, stable family structure, individual decision-making — represent complicity in white supremacy.” Trump Jr - “These aren’t ‘white’ values. They’re American values that built the world’s greatest civilization. They help you succeed here, no matter your color. So make no mistake, Biden’s radicals aren’t coming for ‘whites,’ they’re coming for the entire American way of life.” The actual origins of the chart (it's older than I am): The chart came from a 1978 book, “White Awareness: Handbook for Anti-Racism Training” by Judy H. Katz, according to the museum. It lists about 50 attributes white people used to describe their culture. These attributes, it said, “have been normalized over time and are now considered standard practices in the United States. And since white people still hold most of the institutional power in America, we all have internalized some aspects of white culture, including people of color.” Man, the bigots are SO close to gaining self-awareness, I'm sure they'll get it sooner or later...

I'm looking for a copy of the Dec. 1975, or so, "Parachutist" with the 1976 para-ski team center page. Happy to make it worth your while. gentryworks@gmail.com

Yep. In freefall you are horizontal. Once you open you pull a lot of G's for a second and are then vertical - often with a bit of loss of circulation in your legs. If you're hypovolemic that's where you will notice it.

I was an SSPC safety officer in 1969. Still have the USPA card. We made a few jumps at Ap Don from a DC3 rented from Continental Airlines. During one jump I could hear an M-60 being fired. During another an F-4 strafed something about a quarter mile across the little river that ran by the DZ. Nothing more exciting than that. Twice the VN Army team jumped with us. The village kids field packed for us, and several Vietnamese women from the village catered food. VN Army troops hauled us back to TSN airbase in brand new stake bed trucks. There were 9 jumpers at the time & I had trained 4 of them (I think) & put them out on static line in the Club's surplus rigs. I had to train a few so we could afford the DC3. U.S. Armed forces TV featured us & filmed from the plane. They just showed up one morning. Scared me because I was a Seabee E-4 & hadn't asked permission from any American military sources, just the Vietnamese Army. No one challenged us.

No argument at all. I hope I've made my position clear on the division of military and police.

??? Gold is a colour. Why should his social status have prevented his family from using it?
  15. 1 point
Indeed. There's nothing to stop you from supplying some.

What does that matter? His family should have to choose a humble coffin to reflect his lowly life? They're not allowed to use a high status colour? You know, while I'm sure he was used to being judged on colour while he was alive and even while he died, I bet he never thought he'd still be getting judged on colour when he was being buried.

An LEO is entitled to pursue escaping perps. A civilian has no such right. The right to claim self-defense ends once the attack ends, i.e. the moment they turn to leave.

    >When I went to lunch today, I noticed an old lady sitting on a park bench sobbing her eyes out. I stopped and asked her what was wrong. She said, "I have a 22 year old husband at home. He makes love to me every morning and then gets up and makes me pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit and freshly ground coffee." I said, "Well then, why are you crying?" She said, "He makes me homemade soup for lunch and my favorite brownies and then makes love to me for half the afternoon. I said, "Well, why are you crying?" She said, "For dinner he makes me a gourmet meal with wine and my favorite dessert and then makes love to me until 2:00 a.m." I said again, "Well, why in the world would you be crying?" She said, "I can't remember where I live!"

    1) At my home club, a wingloading of 1.22 would be considered too high for a 38-jump A-licensed student. Conventional wisdom calls for a wingloading around 1.0. But if you are 82kg now, and add ~15kg for equipment, your exit weight would be around 95-100kg. Round up to 100kg, and you would need a 220sqft canopy to hit 1.0 wingloading. 2) Breaking stuff on every landing is indeed unsustainable. High altitude is typically equated to an effective smaller canopy size. So you will likely need to jump a bigger canopy. But you also need to be able to roll out a landing. Practice it lots on the ground, and upsize further if needed. Upsizing is underrated. My advice: find a colorado-local skydiving club, and talk with their instructors. Let them know your history and experience (bring your logbooks) and listen to their advice regarding canopy and training. They should know how to handle students jumping in higher altitudes, and they should have the correct student gear available for rent.

It is very common for harness training to use a real hanging harness to practice the malfunction Tree solutions. I cant believe you even made your statement and have never been in a harness for training.. sure standing around with a full rig on your back pretending to through drogues and pull handles works but actually throwing drogues and actually pulling handles is 100 times better training..
