2 pointsBanknotes may be spreading coronavirus, World Health Organisation warns https://finance.yahoo.com/news/who-world-health-organisation-coronavirus-banknotes-warning-111019361.html As a public service, I am willing to accept all your unwanted banknotes.

1 pointHow very American of you. You have the developed worlds most unfair health care system. With the poorest average outcomes. And you want to blame it on the rest of the world.
-
1 pointIsn't it great that people have no problem paying $6,000 a year for health insurance premiums. But if those premiums would be replaced by a $1,600 health tax, it becomes unaffordable....

1 pointHi Eric, My thoughts only: I do not think that the Mojo infringes on your patent. You use a solid, straight pin; the Mojo uses a 3-piece pin with a joint in the middle. Mr. Zwicker told me he looked at all of the patents that he could find prior to designing the Airborne Systems MARD. Jerry Baumchen

1 pointOutstanding article and great job Danielle. Many of her sentiments are shared by skydivers of color. And (almost) any exposure for our sport in a mainstream rag is a good thing. Love to see efforts like this that can not only promote positive skydiving images but bring our community even closer than we already are. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/05/sports/sky-diving-african-americans.html?fbclid=IwAR1QR976_7A_Zk-BxMEOv_tL6ZUmxLvUcg3SG-6-ZaU_yx-hTNIcsZs4P1Y

1 pointThat can't be right. It's not that complicated as people would have us believe. They must be objectively good outcomes.
-
1 pointFinancial barriers are barriers. It does stop people from accessing health care. In some cases it also slows down access to health care, with people trying to find doctors who accept their type of insurance. Often during stressful and difficult times. That too is a barrier. Life isn't as simple as you often seem to think it is.

1 pointIn solidarity with John, and in spriti of reaching across the aisle, I would like to join in a non-partisan effort, and will also accept your unwanted legal tender.

1 pointHad she used the politically correct wording of "taxpayer (of whom I am one) paid" would you have finished? In this case, I took "free" to be as contrasted with what her sister paid out of pocket, as in "it had no impact on my day-to-day budget." I doubt she's dumb enough to think that the treatment comes from the fairies, any more than you think "freeway" is a misnomer because taxes paid for it. Wendy P.

1 pointPopped in to write on Lisa H blue sky thread. I haven't jumped since my daughter was born (2008) I miss it. Since then, i started and finished an apprenticeship with the ibew. Have two children, and go to church regularly. Hope everyone is doing well!

1 pointHe's right - it's doubtful. You are 25lbs heavier when you skydive. Tunnel operators have a lot of experience choosing airspeeds that work for skydivers when they are in a tunnel without their rig, and will adjust as needed. We use a 110-112 airspeed when we do 4 way in the tunnel.

1 pointAll I care about is Trump losing. Screw social justice and whatever issues are your current happy points. If Trump wins again I fear ever getting a chance to right wrongs for generations. Nothing, absolutely nothing, that is on offer from any candidates would be worse than a Trump reelection.

1 pointHi Rob, I would agree with your assessment of the Javelin. I would also add that its main competitor, the Vector, is overdue for an overhaul and in need of the fourth generation variant as well. It also has dated features that could use an update, including some cosmetic ones. As noted in one of my previous posts, perhaps the impetus for SP buying/merging with RI is to acquire and later on incorporate some or perhaps all of the features unique to the Curv rig into the next generation Javelin rig. Even the Mirage is already on its fourth generation but it would appear (and I could be wrong) that the two H/C leaders (UPT and SP, respectively) seem to be resting on their laurels and continuing to produce rigs that haven't had any significant updates in too many years. Just a personal observation. Mike

1 pointDear HPC, I would really like to see some updates to the Javelin. Yes, I know that they made a bunch of detail changes in 2000 and again when they added Skyhook, but the reserve pilot chute cap is the same diameter as when 26' lopos were fashionable as reserve canopies (circa 1984)! As Javelins get narrower and narrower, it is increasingly difficult to stuff all the pilot chute fabric under the cap. Meanwhile, Rigging Innovations went through a variety of wide-cap pilot-chutes, but needed to introduce the narrow cap "Stealth" pilot chute to make the smaller Talon 1s and all the subsequent Flexon, '94 Talon, Talon 2, Aviator, Voodoo Curv, etc. deploy gracefully. Sun Path could also learn a thing or two about ringed harness and pin cover design. Do I sound biased? Yes! The years that I worked for Sandy Reid were some of the best years of my life!

1 pointRed Flag laws are exactly what Republicans asked for when they started calling it a "mental health" issue. They wanted it, they got it.

1 pointI use the super cheap ones as well, mainly because I KNOW I will loose those expensive ones within a day :-) Works perfectly for me, but then again it seems that some people's ears are more sensitive for pressure changes than mine. The only real downside for me is that they make it a bit harder to communicate before boarding. The custom made earplugs are probably better in that respect.
-
1 pointMe, I take the cheapo foam plugs into freefall. I find I focus much better without the noise. They work great for me, but my ears equalize easily, and I've never had problems putting them in. For commercial flying or sleeping, I use some noise-canceling earbuds, which are like magic. Wendy P.
-
1 pointI used cheap-ish silicon ear plugs with changeable filters. Good results, no problems communicating in CReW (it actually got better due to dampening of the wind noise), no pressure issues on the plane or during the few freefalls I did. Unfortunately I lost these earplugs a while back, on a less than perfect jump. I've been using the even more cheapo foam plugs since then - and they also work just fine even though I did not take them into freefall yet.
-
1 pointCall me a sceptic, but I think the only difference is in the marketing. There is nothing special or difficult about filters letting a little bit of air in/out.
-
1 pointI think the big difference with the other products avaible in market is that these ones (bigearinc) has a special solution to allow equalize the pressure!!

1 pointStrong c1200 cargo canopy. 1200 sqft 15 cells. A,b,c,d,e,f,g lines. grommet spacing can't really be wider then the cell so you wind up with an inner and outer set of grommets to allow three cells to inflate with the slider up. It gives you the area you need to deccelerate the payload before the rest of the canopy opens. You wind up with four grommets front to back in four rows and six on the back edge for break lines. They extend the back edge of the slider and have there own slider stops to increase its area. You actually have eight primary risers that give you inner and outer on each side. They Y near the top front to back to allow the slider to come all the way down, accommodate those four grommets in each row. 16x7 noncascaded 1000 lb lines and 6 primary break lines 2000 lb split to 12 attachment points. So ya, it's a beast, 68 lbs of joy, but I've seen it survive 20,000 lb opening shock. Lee

1 pointI need to thank my Army Airborne training for really drilling a good PLF into my head. I don't use them much now days, but they really did help a lot in the old days, jumping rounds. I know one guy who said a PLF even saved his bacon when he fell off a scaffolding. He automatically did a PLF.......Steve1

1 pointThey've never said that to me...matter of fact, I have many times been congratulated on a glorious, big PLF...(maybe I shouldn't be bragging about that! LOL!!!) PLFs are my friend. They have saved me several broken bones...I've had some horrendous landings, one a seriously bad judgment downwinder which resulted in a scraped face, shattered goggles, and several broken toes...but had I not PLF'd, I am certain I would've landed in the hospital.(Downwinder at sunset onto hardpan/part of the runway)... One of the things people don't realize, though, is don't resist it. Relax as you touch down - breathe out - and let yourself roll if you have that speed to bleed off. Don't stick your arm out to stop the roll, or leg out. Keep arms and legs in, and roll it out to a stop. I can't describe the physics of it, but it's a method of spreading the impact energy through the body at a diagonal which will allow the injuries to be minimal. It's a lot like the drunk driver who walks away...it has to do with relaxation and nonresistence. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
