Super proud of my wife for stapling up her A license this past weekend. We finally got to jump together, after over a year. Just wanted to share our simple little jump on here because I'm so damn happy about it! It's nothing amazing; I wanted to keep it simple and memorable in a good way, so it's just some leg turns with high grips and staring at each other all the way down. Good for them. Sounds like it was a bad decision by an employee and not an attitude of Starbucks.

I'm pretty stocky too - 5'4" and a little on the heavy side. I'm also a pretty damn good skydiver. It's much more a mental game than physical. Join us!

Starbucks' answer: Dear Chief Moir and the entire Tempe Police Department, Thank you, Chief Moir, for the conversation today. On behalf of Starbucks, I want to sincerely apologize to you all for the experience that six of your officers had in our store on July 4. When those officers entered the store and a customer raised a concern over their presence, they should have been welcomed and treated with dignity and the utmost respect by our partners (employees). Instead, they were made to feel unwelcome and disrespected, which is completely unacceptable. At Starbucks, we have deep appreciation for your department and the officers who serve the Tempe community. Our partners rely on your service and welcome your presence, which keeps our stores and the community a safe and welcoming place. Our strong relationship with the Tempe Police Department has provided us the opportunity to host several “Coffee with a Cop” events in area stores, which bring residents and police together to discuss relevant issues and find common ground. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationship with you, and we agree that the experience of your officers requires an important dialogue – one that we are committed to being part of. What occurred in our store on July 4 is never the experience your officers or any customer should have, and at Starbucks, we are already taking the necessary steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again in the future. I will be in Tempe this evening and welcome the opportunity to meet with any of you in person to address concerns or questions. Sincerely, Rossann Williams executive vice president, president U.S. Retail Starbucks Coffee Company

I always wondered what the hell was wrong with people that periodically pop into a particular forum just to take a jab at someone. That's really big of you dude, like a bully trying to impress his friends. . . .and of course normiss would hypocritically give the guy a rep point for that garbage.

This is exactly the thing I wish I could do with my wife... one day lol. She went from never even wanting to think about a tandem to now wanting to jump (by end of summer she says lol) Congrats to you both !

No there isn't. This is a bullshit myth and I wish it would go away. It's true that certain canopies pack bigger or smaller and can sometimes go in a container that usually fits something else. But you need to check first.

I completely agree there are people who need to be done away with. It's just that, for me, the downside of doing so is greater than the upside. Better to forget them. Wendy P.

Not really. If she had a toggle fire, hung toggle upon releasing her brakes, tension knots, broken lines, canopy damage, or whatever, she could be spinning (diving) and cut away, and you'd still be there. The point of the breakoff track is to get away from the other people.

That's like saying you get your insurance through the ACA, not Obamacare.

An intentional downplane in CRW can be flown in different ways. One way is to stack, plane, climb down and transition to a grip where each jumper holds on to the other jumper's legs. If you fly a side-by-side this way, it's easy to transition to a downplane by steering both canopies out, and its easy to break up the downplane by letting go of the legs. I've tried this a few times myself, and in my experience it is not easy to get a proper grip and you need a lot of force from both persons to keep the grip stable. If one person releases that force, the other won't be able to hang on and both jumpers will fly away from each other. Another way to do it that is physically easier is to make a harness with quick-release that you can connect to your own rig, and have a strap that can be connected between the two jumpers. I have made one jump with such a system (together with a CRW jumper who is very experienced in their use), and it is much easier to create a downplane with them, since you do not rely on muscle power to keep the connection. The downside is that you are more solidly connected to the other jumper, and if you cannot break that connection in time it can result in you both impacting the ground at downplane speeds. Typically, both jumpers have a cutaway system similar to a three-ring system on their end. One of the dangers (no exhaustive list) of this system happens if the strap gets twisted around somehow. This can lock in the release system, making release extremely difficult or pretty much impossible. Hence my advice regarding this topic. Here Be Dragons! Venture forth at your own risk. Always think deeply before you act, and talk with many experienced people. Weigh their advice carefully, and don't throw it aside lightly.
