Bonehead

Recommended Posts

I am going to finally get a "proper" [as in not Pro-Tec ;)] helmet and was looking at getting the Bonehead mindwarp, i have looked at the gunner but think it is too expensive and a friend that makes camera helmets said that htey dont make great camera platforms. I am 150 jumps off a camera helmet but dont want to fork out another £200 far a camera helmet. Any way the reason for this post is does anyone have any opinions on the midwarp, the gear reviews are good but mostly review the older one with the external audible port??

Mindwarps are good. I've got two, one with a D-box and one with out. Consider getting a second helmet for jumps with out a camera. Almost everyone I know that jumps camera has a second helmet that they use on jumps they don't want the camera around for. Spend the money on what fits and what you'll use now.

i have a bone head mind warp (a older version) and a optic that is set up for camera still and video, and a ineverdegox from sky systems set up for just video.in my opinion think about what you want to do with the halmet later in your skydivng carreer.i like the optic it is very comfortable and fits very well.but the skysystems helmet is by far my favorite it is like i am not even wearing a camera at all.and you can wear it as just a helmet untill you decide to install a camera.plus the price i think is a little cheaper than a bonehead.check them out .but both companys make a rell good helmet.B|

The biggest compliment I got about my Bonehead Havok was actually intended as an insult!

This english guy at Perris was like "dude that helmet is just way over engineered!, you don't need that much protection"

I guess he was right, with his bad ass Gath helmet, the thing is a plastic shell with a couple strips of padding (not even a foam layer).

To each his own! last I checked, we ARE jumping out of planes. Why wear a good helmet?
1)bad exit
2) freefall collision
3) canopy collision
4) bad landing

I guess these things only happen to other people

I have had crappier brands before, and I won't go back. It is definately worth waiting that little bit longer to put the extra cash together.

Freefly helmets are all pretty close in price. A Mindwarp is US$180. An Aviator is US$190. A Z1 Evo is US$179. A Gunner is US$220. An Ion is US$219.

Which ones are crappy?

Bonehead makes great helmets, both in terms of fit and crash protection, er, keeping me awake long enough to pull.
I have been jumping a full-box Bonehead camera helmet for years. One of the reasons I bought from Bonehead was that they were one of the few manufacturers who could fit my extra-large jaw.
The first Mindwarp was the first freefly helmet worth my money.
Normally I wear a Protec while doing tandems, but if professional skydiving paid a bit better I would wear a Guner or M3T.
Also, your plan to buy a Mindwarp and later add a camera mount is wise.

Andy,

If you want to pick up another helmet (after you buy your first Mindwarp from Lisa) at a lower price from Bonehead, call them about Bone Bonds....you buy Bonds in multiples of $100 and cash them in 6 months later for double the face amount.

So, If you want to pick up a Mindwarp with a DBox for a camcorder a couple of hundred bucks should give you a good start on your setup.

According to an email I got from them a couple of weeks ago, they aren't going to offer this for very much longer.

i've got a mindwarp..one of the newer ones. I like it a lot but i wish it was like closer to the head like the pimp daddy ones.

Just wait until next year. They've been receiving alot of comments like yours (and mine) and have a beauty getting ready to debut soon. :)

No it hasn't. One of the newer guys in our club called last week and bought one after I e-mailed everybody in our club they were still available..

Here's the e-mail reply I received from them three weeks ago. My original e-mail is quoted in the reply:

Hi,

I have to let you know that your website redesign is very good. Much
better organized and information is easier to find.

Am wondering though, if you are still offering Bone Bonds?
