mccordia 74 #1 June 28, 2010 For a Dutch TV show, we where asked to show a little bit about wingsuits. The expert evaluation of the show-hosts aside, its actually not that bad an item. Due to bad weather, and the camera crew wanting to film 'something', we where luckely enough to get to fly inside a car testing windtunnel. TV being TV, not a lot of footage ended up on TV. But we had fun regardless. Being attached to a base, but 'flying' without any real pressure or contact with it, due to the 90 mph headwind was nothing short of awesome. Did a +- 10 minute 'flight' that destroyed my arms completely. But Id do it again in a heartbeat. Here is a link to the item. And here are a few stills we shot in the tunnel. And yes, the embroidery on JLO's rig will be fixed soonJC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

mccordia 74 #4 June 28, 2010 The 3 hour drive, and 8 AM time when this was shot also helped. Though my eyes are just permanently dopey I guess...its a design feature... But..yea..the one Dutch guy who is not at all into drugs, due to being permanently high on his ADHD, and this is what I get as a thank you... We have quite a bit of stuff we shot during and after the shoot. And we are getting the rough footage as well from the camera guys. Smoke going over the suit etc. It was for a TV item, so all just for the visuals/fun of it. So no actual testing or performance data this time. But it did show the burbles nicely, and how the head position influenced the turbulence behind the flyer. Will post more of that footage later..JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? DSE 5 #5 June 28, 2010 Overall, it was a very good story and while her metaphor of "flying high" didn't work so well...the story of the other commentator "having done many skydives myself" and wondering about landing a wingsuit was cute. I wish they'd used more of the tunnel footage because that was very interesting.
SuperGirl 0 #6 June 28, 2010 tv whore!! nice item though. always good to see wingsuits on tv in something other than a fatality report...
base851 0 #7 June 28, 2010 OK I just went back all over my suit and rig and still for the life of me can't find that button I'm supposed to be pushing. Maybe that's my problem. Seriously though sweet job scoring a wingsuit-friendly tunnel ride. Were you able to get any sort of useful/interesting data out of your time in there? mccordia 74 #9 June 28, 2010 Aside of some nice video showing the airflow around the wingsuit in all different places, no real performance data. If someone was to seriously test and compare, more than an hour and a half or prep-time and setup would be needed. But as mentioned, that wasnt the aim. Some positive PR for wingsuit flying in general was all we had to gain here. Though we do have a good contact there now, and the tunnel guys said they wanted some stills/video for promotional use. So who knows. I will post some of the more interesting stuff later. Seeing the airflow, and just being able to 'fly' there was great fun, and as others commented via email, would make for a great (extremely expensive) 'wingsuit hometrainer' to work on strength and stamina for altitude and distance records. This video, and flock & dock 6, and the Visa Jet video are planned for editing/finalizing in the coming two weeks, as I have some free time coming up (finaly) to work on that stuff!JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
