ethan 0 #1 November 5, 2003 Having just bought my first new gear, I was wondering if anyone knew of any insurance companies in the UK who insure kit for loss or damage?
mr2mk1g 10 #2 November 6, 2003 Mines under my home insurance policy so check with them first (if you insure home and contents). They didn't know squat so I just told em how I wanted them to insure it and they did as I said. I have several in my house (club kit and housmates) and all were covered automatically up to a £1500, but I listed mine seperately so I could value it at £3500. Make sure you insure the main as a seperate item from the reserve, container and cypres. This means if the whole thing is stolen you have to pay two excesses as its two items... but if you cuttaway and lose the main, its covered. I have heard of problems in the past where a main is lost and someone tries to claim, the insurance co simply say its "one item" and you still have "the item", its just "missing a bit". The reserve, container and cypres can be one item as.... well if you do something that fucks them.... well you probably wont really care then.
696GrocuttT 0 #3 November 6, 2003 I've heard some nasty stories about normal insurance cover. One in particular springs to mind where someone chopped and then they saw someone on the ground drive up in a car and nick there main. Apparently the insurance company said they wouldn't cover it because they had "abandoned" it. Don't know how true this story is but I asked my insurance company and they said it would not be covered under these kind of circumstances because its classed as sports equipment in use. The only company I know of that does cover the kit when you are using it is:- http://www.hbinsurance.co.uk/index.html I haven't got one of there policies but a few of my friends have and they seam happy with it.
