wingsuiting with CRW canopy

Recommended Posts

Quote

just a quick question, what do you think to the wisdom - or total lack thereof - of using a CRW canopy for wingsuiting. i'm -very- vaguely contemplating a second rig and just wondered if it was an option to combine the two disiplines in one container?

Would you make a free-fall jump with that rig? :S

One of my teammates jumps a lightning for wingsuit. The other two hybrid Triathlons. We normally do crw after wingsuitjumps.Perfectly doable but put the lightning in a deploymentbag.Freepacked openings can be a bit hard B|

If people from Poland are called Poles, why aren't people from Holland called Holes???

And just so Mike knows the lightning shouldn't be taken to terminal but your hybrids are perfect for terminal deployments, like If you wanted this container to be a backup for RW besides WS/CReW.

You can deploy all of these with a Dbag instead of a tailpocket but if you use the standard Crew bridle and the three ring setup you should change the grommet in the Dbag to a #8 so it acts as a kill cone. Mind you once you do that and you want to swap back and forth from Crew bridle to standard collapsible you will need a larger french link to span the larger grommet and keep the bridle secure to your kill-line collapsible bridle.

Also keep an eye out for PD and their Crew toy, aimed specificly at WS..

The Storm will come in a CRW and standard version. Frayed Knot was jumping the CRW version during the skills camp I held recently in Eloy. Unless you do CRW and WS, the standard version would be the one to use for normal skydiving and WS applications.

No, that's not what you SAID at all. There are different configurations available dependent on the jumpers preferences. The Storm is not strictly a CRW canopy. Both versions are well suited for WSing but there is no need to buy one with the CRW mods unless you also do CRW.:)

When you say configurations don't you mean accessories? The canopy is built one way but ships with extra slider and bridle to replace the standard ones for use in CReW, no?

The ones set up for crew have CRW specific lines and are set up to accommodate CRW accessories. It comes with 600 dacron lines, mesh slider, tail pocket, continuous A1 and A4 Red lines, reinforced stabilizers, target panels on 1,6,7 top surface,#5 links, 3 pilot chute attachments and a retractable bridle system .

The Standard version is for skydiving and lines can be either 600 dacron, 550 or 850 microline, Slinks, #3.5 SS mini links or #5 links ( mini links cannot be used if 600 dacron is choosen).

If you opt for the "casual CF" kit option you get the 3 bridle attachments, retractable bridle system, continuos center A lines. If you choose 600 dacron lines you can choose between red or white center A lines. White center A lines only if microline is choosen.

Most of the Argus wingsuit jumped the canopy a few months back as well..
Most people seem positive about this one..

In general 'a spectre with better glide and handling characteristics' seems to be what people say about the canopy.

No more details on the Stom ?

At the moment PD is hard at work producing all the (production model) Storm canopies that will be hitting the boogie and PD demo-tours.

Within a month or so, you should be able to demo the canopy almost everywhere..

Heyhey,

The weather didnt coperate the last few weeks, but I finaly made the first few jumps on my Storm(150) the past weekend.

The openings are nice and crisp, not taking as long as the Spectre.
For those that prefer slighly quicker/snappy-er openings (though definately not hard) it rocks.
But the same on-heading performance you're used to from the previous PD 7 cell.

I loved how it flies. Really light toggle pressure, really quick on the turns and dives, much more swoopable in general.B| Though the real swoop fanatics will of course favour a 'true' swooping canopy. But compared to the spectre, a bit and fun step up.

The slighly deeper flare you need to land took me a bit of getting used to, but all in all..I like it a lot, and this is what Ill be flying for many, many wingsuit jumps to come.B|B|
