selbbub78 0 #1 November 4, 2003 Hey all, currently i'm looking at the possibility of selling my sabre for a triathlon because i just recently discovered the wonders of CRW. I was wondering if anyone has any experience jumping triathlons for crw work, and how they perform for freefall. Thanks in advance. blue skies,"Women fake orgasms - men fake whole relationships" – Sharon Stone "The world is my dropzone" (wise crewdog quote) "The light dims, until full darkness pierces into the world."-KDM
Hooknswoop 19 #2 November 4, 2003 How serious are you about CReW? If you are very serious, a dedicated CReW canopy would be a better choice. For casual CReW and more of a fun jumping/CReW on the side canopy, the Triatholon is OK. Derek

I just did my first CReW jump the other day, and I figured maybe just temporarily to get one, eventually getting a lightning for CReW if i really get into it. Thanks for the advice. dragon2 2 #4 November 4, 2003 There's 3 kinds of Triathlons: 1) the regular one (easy to find 2nd hand, btw). great for freefall, general all purpose canopy, good for first canopy. can be used for casual crw (2 stack, stuff like that) but if it has microlines that's a problem. has cascaded lines and no retractable pilot chute and has a slider/bag. the slow openings are a bit of a disadvantage for crw. 2) the competition crw tri. has reinforced nose, a retractable pilot chute and non-cascaded centerlines. opens HARD so can't be used for freefall. usually no regular slider but a mesh one or a spider. usually jumped freepacked (without a bag). used for serious crw. 3) the hybrid tri. a regular tri but with a couple of crw-friendly mods, like a retractable pilot chute. can be used for freefall (opens real slow) but if you do mostly freefall it's recommended to replace the retractable bridle with a standard one. you probably have to buy a canopy like this new. anyway, if you're serious about crw, look at what the other crw jumpers at your dz are jumping. if they jump lightnings for instance, you're better off getting a lightning too. also look at matching wingloads. a spectre or reg. tri can be used for a bit of crw but if you're in anyway serious I think you'll like a real crw canopy better. a hybrid might be cool if you can't afford 2 canopies or just really like tri's. a real crw canopy packs big tho, because of the lines and reinforcement. ie my lightning 126 can't fit into my atom 00 which has held a zp/f111 170 main and a zp 150, but both with microlines. also, look around in the crw forum... ciel bleu, Saskia
indyz 1 #5 November 4, 2003 I was in the same boat as you. I did about a dozen CRW jumps this summer, mostly with Spectres. This is something that I want to play with more, but I couldn't justify a dedicated CRW rig or even a second main. A couple of weeks ago I put up a want-ad here on DZ.com for a Triathlon Hybrid. I found one within a couple of days and have put 10 jumps on it since then. I really like the canopy. Terminal and subterminal openings are great, maybe even a little softer than my Spectre. To be fair, my Spectre needs a reline soon. All of that reinforcing makes it pack up pretty big. My Tri 160 packs up a little larger than my Spectre 170. Samurai136 0 #6 November 4, 2003 I have a Triathlon Hybrid 160 if you're looking for one. Drop me a PM. The Tri is a good CRW canopy (and good all around) but I'd reccomend a lightning or a prodigy if you're serious about doing CRW. Find out what the other CRW dogs are jumping and ask them. You'll have the most success doing crw w/ people who have the same or similar model canopy as the rest of the group.
