How an I speed up an opening?

Recommended Posts

My problem is the opposite of what I've been reading and that is that the canopy comes out of the bag at line stretch but then I have another six seconds to watch it as it opens. ..I pro pack my canopy and do not roll the nose and put it in the bag as loose as I possibly can... While at line stretch I look up and see that the lines are straight and the slider is square but stays up...I have even changed the slider to a smaller one to try and cause the canopy to open faster but it justs stays up the delaying and I wait and wait......so what do you think?

I have been told this can be related to lines out of trim, and if this is a possibility on your canopy, you should have a rigger look at it.

Although, having a rigger look at your canopy whenever anything is wrong with it seems like an easy answer.

Other than the advice already offered (If you tell us what kind of canopy that may yield better advice). Give a light tug on the rear risers to help inflate the canopy. Not too much mind you, or you may be in for a very "snappy" inflation.

Hey Kevin, If your out next weekend I will be picking up my son and will be at Richland. I can show you what worked for my stiletto when I was filming CRW. Got that fancy new helmet yet?

I had the same problem with my Turbo ZX. When I pack I leave the slider inside instead of exposing it. When I roll the tail, I roll it down to my knees where I have the nose. I lay it down holding the rolled tail at the base of the nose.

A further option is to have a rigger cut a hole in the middle of the slider and reinforce it.

This is a very easy way to speed up openings, but make sure whomever does the mod knows what they are doing. The vent needs to be reinforced so it doesn't tear out!

I really don't think it's the way that I'm packing because I just switched over to the Triathlon 220 that I barrowed from a friend and it slams open which I love compared to the waiting I'm used to...three seconds and I have a canopy but the one that I'm complaining about is the PD 260 with about 200 jumps on it. that's the one that takes forever to open...I am 240lbs out the door, could it be it's under loaded? or?....
