love2flyhigh 0 #1 December 15, 2007 Is a Pull Out "PUD" out of the question for wing suit flying?
mccordia 74 #2 December 15, 2007 I think its commonly refered to as a 'freefly pud' and in use on a lot of wingsuit-rigs. as long as your openingsystem is throw-out, the actual handle you use doesnt matter much. personaly I actually prefer this type of pud/handle as it much more secure, and less prone to dislodge while moving about in the plane or during backflying. the old hackey/ball can actually cause bridle/pilotchute knotting if the bridle can wrap around the single attachment point/cord between bal/hackey and pilotcute (and has caused quite a few reserve rides in the past) long story short...freefly-pud...a-ok!JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? love2flyhigh 0 #3 December 15, 2007 Well I just purchased a Micron and opted for the Pull Out not throw out. So wing suit wouldnt be an option? I wanted the Pull Out for the elimination of some malfunctions however did not consider wing suit flying. Now I am kinda looking at it and wondering if I am going to ever be able to try wing suit with the rig a purchased.
packing_jarrett 0 #4 December 15, 2007 QuoteIs a Pull Out "PUD" out of the question for wing suit flying? I use a pull out (not throw out). I sought some guidence and it has been done before. What I was told was to use a superdooper long bridal. I also added a bigger pilotchute. Works pretty good. You can have all the pull out benefits but with a wingsuit.Na' Cho' Cheese
mccordia 74 #5 December 15, 2007 pull-out itself is definately less then recommendable for a variety of reasons. But most riggers will be able to make you a simple replacable bridle/pilotchute you can just switch. The only downside is that you have to polute your rig with a pouch for the throw-out pilotchute.. dont worry about it..its an easy conversion if and when you want to get into wingsuitsJC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? It requires that a spandex BOC gets installed on your container. You can fly pull out for FF and then convert in a few minutes to a throwout when you think you might do a few wingsuit jumps. Even though a few guys get away with it, pullouts are just not recommended....... and for very good reasons.
packing_jarrett 0 #7 December 16, 2007 Well I think switching between 2 different types of deployment methods could be just as 'non-recomended' as jumping a pull out with a wingsuit.Na' Cho' Cheese
VectorBoy 0 #8 December 16, 2007 Do you have any clue how many jumpers have a dedicated rig for FF( that might be a pullout), WS ( most likely throwout), CReW ( could be either to include some guys still use the ROL), BASE ( much different handle in the same location),BASE wingsuit ( basically a different handle but if they are using a suit that has a base pouch its in an equivalent of an ROL. Think about it! You are right, for some people swapping systems would be an issue. For others it comes with the territory. I only personally know one person with a convertible but know many with dedicated rigs.
diablopilot 2 #9 December 16, 2007 Quoteull-out itself is definately less then recommendable for a variety of reasons. List 'em. I've had no problems with a properly configured pullout set up. That means a 9 to 10 foot (bag to pc atachment) bridle. That's just short of 400 wing suit deployments.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
