Spatula 0 #1 October 30, 2003 All, Just curious what everyone's thoughts are about buying gear from online shops other than actual manufacturers? Versus DZ shops. For example (http://www.pierltd.com/new/main/index.cfm has been highly reccomended to me) Spatula
Unstable 9 #2 October 30, 2003 I've seen some pretty good deals online - but for some reason - maybe it's just me being paranoid and nervous about dropping the $ - I feel much more comfortable paying a little extra and buying from a local dealer that i know on a personal Level.=========Shaun ==========
Chrisky 2 #3 October 30, 2003 Well, most dealers (as i understand) have gear stores at a DZ. Just ordered a new Wings container via the net (Square one), had my measurements taken by a rigger at my DZ and emailed the order to them. Had very good feedback via email from both the dealer and the manufacturer to clear up any misunderstandings, and the rig arrived in perfect condition and fits _perfectly_. So so far, i can't say anything bad about online shopping. Sometimes the dealer at your DZ shop might be able to squeeze out one or two percent more rebate, but apart from that, there's not much difference. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

Sometimes your "local" dealer will charge a bit more (i.e. offer a smaller discount off the list prices) but can provide service that would make paying a bit more than you would from a mail order/online store worthwhile. I've heard of gear dealers that will provide you with gear to use free of charge while you are waiting for your custom equipment to arrive. It's also not a bad idea to support a local business as that's likely who you'll turn to if you ever have a problem with your gear - if you bought from the local guy and need a small repair he may be more likely to do it for free. A local dealer should also have fabric/color samples. imho if your friends have recommended a particular dealer (online or off), it's a good bet that you'll be happy with them too.
