Your legstraps should be snug, not so tight their uncomfortable, though.

Someone suggested a while back getting some of those seatbelt pads for racers, cutting them in half and putting them on the leg straps to add some padding. I've never tried that though.

Your absolute best bet is to talk to one of your instructors about this, since I know they've dealt with this before.B|

I also had really bad leg discomfort on my first few jumps - one time I got huge bruises that lasted a week. Almost every time my legs would be unhappy under canopy.

I don't know what caused it and I can't say it's totally cured, but after the first dozen jumps I guess I just don't notice it anymore. Also, in all those jumps, I have been tightening the legstraps down to the point where I can feel them really clamping my legs when I walk. Squat-and-pull straps and that seems to do it. Aggie sez "snug" and that sounds about what I do. Give this a shot and see if the problem gets better or worse. ;)

Uh, to specifically answer your end question, I would recommend "way up high and crank them down (light to medium cranking)" instead of "leave lower across legs".

Student gear has a way of not fitting everyone so well. Generally speaking, when you get gear that fits you better (like, you own), a lot of the aches and pains go away.

This fit issue may or may not be the reason the leg straps are giving you problems, but it's a pretty common gripe from students!

Aubrey,
You can usually make things a lot more comfortable after you have opened by pushing the leg straps further down on your legs. Do this by picking up one knee at a time at least as high as your hip and scoot the leg strap up your leg, about a quarter of the way up your thigh. This should put you in a bit more of a sitting position and make the canopy ride a lot more comfy.

Good luck with the rest of your AFF and tell everyone at gold coast I said hi!
