X-Braced canopy E-Line Modification

Subject: E-Line Modification

1. Have any of you done an e-line modification for cross braced swooping canopies? I'm thinking of doing this to my VX and FX for more rear riser performance.

2. If you have done this, where do you attach the extra line to on the riser? I was thinking it would be attached to the guide ring that keeps the control lines.

3. Also, how much slack, if any, are you putting into the extra line. I was thinking there was no slack so it would pull the tail down immediatly when you put rear riser input in.

4. That's all I have to say about that.

i haven't done this to mine (or any other canopy i've ever had) but the reason why is you can't do it to vx's. only to the 7 cell canopies. on the vx's the brake lines are too far out and pulls it in towards the center of the canopy.

you put it on the riser where you sliks or hard links are, like just another line on the link or slink, and then goes up the the brake line, where it cascades out.

as far as i under stood, no slack, so as soon as you pull on the rears, it's pulling the tail down. but you still have slack in you brake line from the cascade down to the toggle, so you still don't pull the tail down when doing your hook.

again, i have never done it, but i have talked to a few people about. other people call it the "J" mod.

later

I've seen no problem there. It's do-able on the 27 cell canopies.

I've seen it finger trapped into the center "d" lines, rather than attached at the riser. Both ways would work.

No slack would defete the purpose. Some slack, as its suposed to be a "save yo' ass" tool for thos who don't want to bail to toggles when the set you is wrong.

I don't care for it.

so there's really no point in doing this mod if you arn't really actively competing? Kinda along the lines of the reefing system PD invented?

Once again: this is a "save your ass" mod for people who just refuse to bail to toggles when they get too deep in the corner on rear-riser swoops. The mod is also good for people who swoop to a complete stop on rears without ever transitioning to toggles. This is not something that most jumpers, even competitive swoopers, would_need_to do. The mod will not add any "performance" to your main.

I definitely would NOT attach E-lines to steering guide rings. As the steering lines slide up and down, they will rapidly abrade E-lines. Far wiser to attach E-lines to connector links, or fingertrap them into C-lines, near the bottom.
What does the factory say about E-lines?
